RAGLAN PUBLIC SCHOOL – NEWSLETTER (Excellence in learning, values and community)
Week 6 Term 2 4th June 2013
Principals Report
Crossing Play On Thursday, 6th June 2013 there will be a visiting performance titled Crossing!; for all children K-6. The performance is part of the schools Human Society and Its Environments and Creative Arts Curriculum, whilst addressing the perspectives of the Aboriginal inhabitation of the area. Crossing is devised by Gregory Blaxland’s descendants. As part of the performance students will help sing songs and work as horses and bullocks. They will have the opportunity to taste damper whilst bringing their own local history to life. This performance will be held in our assembly hall at 1.45pm on Thursday, 6th June, 2013 and will cost $6.00 one child or $12.00 per family. In order to organize this event successfully, we will need to have all permission notes and payment to the office by 10am Wednesday (tomorrow).

Congratulations to all children who participated on the day and to the following who won a place and will represent the district at Region: Emilee Curran (1st), Luke Frost (1st), Amber Hanrahan (2nd), Laura Risch (3rd) and Deklan Cochrane (4th).

STUDENTS LEADING THE WAY
We are proud of…
District Cross Country Last Friday I represented Raglan Public School at the District Cross Country, which is my favourite running event. My goal was to be placed in the top 6 and make it to Western. I ran my best and won 1st place and achieved my goal. All of the Raglan team ran their best with 5 making it through to Western which will be held in Wellington. Emilee Curran OUR RUGBY LEAGUE BOYS Last Tuesday, we went to the St Pats sports ground to compete against Oberon Public School in the second round of the PSSA Rugby League. We felt nervous about the game because we thought Oberon would defeat us as they are a tough team. However, when one of our players crossed the line and we scored our first try within the first 2 minutes of play, our thoughts of defeat began to vanish. Within the next 5 minutes, we scored our second try and we were on the road to victory. Oberon then came back strongly and scored one try before the end of first half. In the second half it went our way when we scored another try in the first 5 minutes but Oberon were not admitting defeat and they scored another try levelling the scores. We were determined to win and we worked well together as a team to go on to score another two tries. We finished the game with a score of 28 to 26 our way and we felt great about our victory. We now go into the third round and we look forward to meeting our opponents! We would like to thank Mrs Shaw and Mr Akroyd for coaching us and Mrs Hanrahan for helping us to keep our heads up high. We also want to thank all the parents for transporting us to the game and cheering us on to victory. Report by Jonah Fox, Joshua Hanrahan and Jacob Ciccocioppo

The students are to be commended for their efforts, sportsmanship and encouragement of others. Once again I must thank the parent volunteers, without whom we would be unable to hold the event. awesome origami book, I could look at the pictures but it was very hard to read
because it was written in JAPANESE!

MONITOR’S REPORT BY AMBER & EVIE
The start of the term has been a busy one and we have lots of new books to shelve. We have enjoyed teaching people origami. The students who come to the library get really excited because of all the fun activities that we do. We like doing the returns and borrowing.’ I like reading all the new mystical adventure books’ said Amber. ‘I like discovering the new books that the library has purchased and teaching all the new kindergartens this year how to do all the different things’ said Evie.
Fuzzy Head Craft Project
You will need:
old stocking grass seed, dirt, 2 small elastics, decorations
1. Put 2 teaspoons of grass seed in the bottom of toe of the stocking
2. Add 1-2 cups of dirt. Make sure the seeds stay in the top of the head, otherwise you’ll have hair sprouting from under the eyes.
3. Use the small elastic to pinch off a nose about half way up the head.
4. Use the second elastic to tie off the bottom.
5. Decorate by pasting on eyes, mouth, ears.
Keep the Fuzzy Head in a small dish with water in the bottom. The ‘hair’ should sprout in less than a week. Style the hair carefully with elastics, clips and scissors.
At lunch time I love to play with

Stage 1
What is a Pumpkin Beetle?
At school we call them “Pumpkin Beetles”
because they are the colour of pumpkins
but they are really called Soldier Beetles.
They are found all down the eastern
coastline of Australia. These beetles do
not harm us or plants. They lay their grubs
in the soil and then they hatch. They can
be found clumped in large numbers. Have
fun catching these during lunch-time
activities with our special bug catches
donated last year by the P&C.
