RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE(Government of India)(Ministry of Railways)EMPLOYMENT NOTICE NUMBER 2 / 2011.Applications are invited from eligible Male and Female candidates for filling up the posts of

Sub Inspector in the Pay Band of Rs.9300-34800/- + Grade Pay Rs. 4200/- in the RailwayProtection Force (RPF) including Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF). Details are givenbelow:

1. NUMBER OF VACANCIES:SC ST OBC UR TOTAL69 40 91 311 511

SC means Scheduled Caste, ST means Scheduled Tribe, OBC means Other Backward Classas defined by the Government of India and UR means Unreserved.Note (i) Reservation for Ex-Servicemen will be upto 10% of the vacancies. Further

category-wise break up for SC, ST and OBC will not be done under this quota.

Note (ii) 10% of the vacancies shall be filled up by female candidates in each category.Note (iii)(a) The number of vacancies shown under various categories is provisional and may

increase or decrease or even become nil depending upon the requirement of theRailway Administration.(b) The Railway Administration reserves the right to cancel the recruitment as well asthe notified vacancies at its discretion at any time and such decision shall bebinding on all concerned.(c) In the event of cancellation of the recruitment, the examination fee will not berefunded.(d) The Post of Sub Inspector in the Railway Protection Force including the RailwayProtection Special Force has not been identified as suitable for persons withdisabilities by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.(e) The selected candidates will be liable to serve anywhere in India in the RailwayProtection Force including the Railway Protection Special Force.

2. PAY AND ALLOWANCES:The post carries a Pay of Rs.13500/- in the Pay Band of Rs.9300-34800/- including Grade Payof Rs. 4200/- with such allowances that are admissible under Railway Rules.

3. INELIGIBILITY:No person who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouseliving or who, having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with anyperson shall be eligible for appointment in the RPF including RPSF.

4. ELIGIBILITY:a) Citizenship: The applicant must be a citizen of India.b) Education: The applicant must have passed the Graduation or equivalent examination

conducted by a recognized University. Educational qualification obtained frominstitutions other than a recognized University should be submitted along with theGovernment of India notification declaring that such educational qualification is

equivalent to Graduation for employment under Central Government.c) Age: The applicant must not be less than 20 years and not more than 25 years as on 1 stJuly 2011. That is, he/she must not have born before 01.07.1986 and after 01.07.1991.

Age mentioned in the Matriculation or equivalent certificate will only be accepted.

5. METHOD OF RECRUITMENT:Recruitment will be made based on the performance of the eligible applicants in a Written

Examination, Physical Efficiency Test, Physical Measurement, Viva-Voce Test, Bonus Marks, ifany, obtained and Documents Verification. Written Exams will be held first and only those whoobtain the prescribed minimum marks will be called for Physical Efficiency Test & physicalmeasurement.

A. WRITTEN EXAMINATION:(a) The Written Examination will consist of 120 multiple choice objective type questions of one

mark each and shall be of 90 minutes duration. The question paper will carry 120 asmaximum marks. The question paper will consist of 35 questions on General Intelligence &Reasoning (35 Marks), 35 questions on Arithmetic (35 Marks) and 50 questions on General

Awareness (50 Marks). Candidates will be required to answer all the questions. Each correctanswer will be awarded 1(one) mark and 0.25 mark will be deducted for 1 (one) incorrectanswer. No mark shall be awarded or deducted for questions not attempted.

i. General Awareness (50 marks) :- Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates

general awareness of the environment around him and its application to the society. Questions will also be

designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience

in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions

relating to India especially pertaining to History, Arts & Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General

Polity, Indian Constitution, Sports, General Science, Scientific Research etc.

ii. Arithmetic (35 marks) :- This part will include questions on problems relating to Number systems,

Computation of whole numbers, decimal and fractions and relationships between numbers, fundamental

arithmetical operations, percentages, ratio and proportions, averages, simple and compound interest, profitand loss, discount, use of table and graphs, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time etc.

iii. General Intelligence & reasoning (35 marks) :- It would include questions of both verbal and non- verbal

type. This component will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization,

spatial orientation, problems solving analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination,

observation , relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetic

number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

(b) Candidates must bring the Call Letter at the time of written test. Call letter will be sent bypost. No one will be allowed to appear in the written examination without a call letter.

(c) Question Paper will be set in Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Oriya, Punjabi,Gujarati, Tamil, Malyalam, Kannada, Konkani, Assamese and Manipuri. Applicants who wishto have the question paper in a particular language may indicate so in the Application Form.

Language, once chosen cannot be changed under any circumstance.

5(d) The call letter will contain the date, place, venue and time of the examination and otherinstructions, if any on this subject.

(e) A candidate must obtain at least 40% marks (35% in the case of SC and ST candidates) in theWritten Examination for being considered for other Test /Tests.

B. PHYSICAL EFFICIENCY TEST (PET) AND PHYSICAL MEASUREMENT:a) Only those applicants who qualify in the Written Examination shall be called for PET

and Physical Measurement. The manner in which the candidates are to be called andthe number of candidates to be called for PET and Physical Measurement will bedecided in such a way that candidates, to the extent of three times the number ofnotified vacancies in each category, are selected purely on the basis of merit to appear forviva-voce and documents verification.

b) PET will consist of the events as given below in the table. A candidate has to qualify in all theevents to be declared qualified in PET. The PET will be qualifying in nature. The minimumqualifying standard for each event is specified as under:

c) 1600 meters / 800 meters run will be held first and only those applicants who qualify in this eventwill further take part in the remaining events of the PET. Only those candidates who qualify in1600 meters/800 meters run will be measured for height and chest (applicable for male candidatesonly). Applicants, who fail in any of the events of the PET or in physical measurement, either ofheight or chest, will be declared failed and shall be escorted out of the venue after putting anindelible ink mark on the index finger of the left hand. Their call letters will not be returned.

d) PET will be held at a specified place and on a specified date and the applicants will be informed ofthe same in advance.

e) There will be no PET for Ex-Servicemen.

f) The call letter for PET will give further instructions, if any, on this subject.

C. VIVA-VOCE AND DOCUMENTS VERIFICATION:(a) Candidates who qualify in the PET and Physical Measurement will be called for Viva-Voce

and Documents Verification. However, the number of candidates to be called for Viva-Voceand Documents Verification shall not exceed three times the number of notified vacancies ineach category. The candidates must produce all original documents in support of theireducational qualification, age, SC/ST/OBC status, where applicable (on the format prescribedin the advertisement), domicile and any other extra curricular activities including NCC atthe time of Viva-Voce and documents verification. Request for production of the originaldocuments on a later day will not be entertained under any circumstance. Failure to producethe document may lead to disqualification of the candidate. The appearance of the candidatefor viva-voce will be compulsory. Those who do not appear at the viva-voce will not beconsidered in the final selection, irrespective of their performance in the written examinationand PET.

(b) The purpose of the Viva-Voce is to determine the candidates general awareness, power ofcomprehension, expression , personality, experience, etc.

i) District magistrate or any other revenue officer up to the level of Tehsildar.

ii) Sitting Member of Parliament of Lok Sabha for persons of their ownconstituency.

iii) BPL Card or any other certificate issued by Central Government under a

recognized Poverty Alleviation Programme or Izzat MST issued by railways.iv) Union Ministers may also recommend any person from anywhere in the

country.

v) Sitting Members of Parliament ofthe Rajya Sabha for persons of the district inwhich these MPs normally reside.

The income certificate issued by the authorities mentioned above will have to be on theFormat given in Annexure F.

B. Application form: a) The format of the application form is given at Annexure A. Applicationforms can be downloaded from the official website of Indian Railways

(www.indianrailways.gov.in) or taken from the Employment News/Rozgar Samachar or from thisadvertisement and submitted on A-4 size bond paper, using one side of its leaf only and sent tothe address corresponding to the language chosen for the Question Paper. Only one applicationneed be sent. The addresses to which the completed application should be sent, the details of theperson in whose favour the Draft/IPO shall be drawn and the place where payable are givenbelow. The languages for the question paper are also shown for the convenience of theapplicants.

9b) The words, APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF SUB INSPECTOR IN RPF INCLUDINGRPSF shall be superscribed on the envelope containing the application.c) The exact date, time, place and venue for the tests will be intimated to the candidates

through Call Letters.

d) Applications should be sent through ordinary post only. No application will be received byhand or by registered post or through private courier service.e) Applications should be filled by the candidates in their own handwriting, in Hindi or English

only. Left Hand thumb impression in the case of Male applicants and Right Hand thumbimpression in case of Female applicants shall be affixed in the box given at the bottom of theapplication. Applications signed in capital letters/spaced-out letters will be treated as invalid.

Applications with correction or overwriting or smudged thumb impression may be rejected.

f) Coloured photograph (3.5 cms x 4.5 cms) of the applicant should be pasted at the spaceprovided in the application form with clear front view of the face without cap and sunglasses.

119. NOTES:

a) Applicants called for Written Examination/PET/Viva-Voce and Documents Verification shallmake their own arrangements for boarding, lodging and transport.b) The applicants called for the PET will take part in the events at their own risk. Railways willnot be liable to compensate the candidates in any way, in case they suffer any injury while undertaking

the PET. They should bring with them sports gears such as sports shoes, shorts, vest etc. Nothing will

be provided by the Railways.

c) Candidates must bring writing materials such as pen, pencils, etc for the written test.

d) Railway Passes to the eligible candidates shall be issued as per extant Railway Rules.

e) Impersonation, if any, detected at any stage of the recruitment, may result in initiatingcriminal cases against the applicant and the impersonator as well as canceling the candidatureof the applicant.

f) Candidates found to be having adverse report on their antecedents and character may not beappointed in RPF including RPSF. False declaration/production of false certificate is an offence underthe law and will lead to disqualification of the applicant, institution of criminal case and also dismissal

from service, if appointed. Hence, applicants are advised to be careful while filling in the application.g) The decision of Selection Committee on all matters relating to eligibility, place, venue, date,mode of selection, acceptance or rejection of the application will be final and binding on theapplicants.

h) If a candidate has any grievance regarding physical measurement and the Chairman of theRecruitment Committee does not redress the same, he may, within three days, approach theGrievance Redressal Cell in the office of the Zonal Chief Security Commissioner concerned whosedecision shall be final.

i) Persons applying under the Ex. servicemen quota should note that in accordance with theinstructions of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, Govt.of India, an

applicant who has already availed the benefit of Ex. servicemans status and got any Govt. jobshall not be allowed to avail the benefit under the Ex. Serviceman quota in this recruitment.

j) An applicant serving under a Govt. or Public Sector Enterprise/Undertaking includingRailways will be considered for appointment only after he/she furnishes a No ObjectionCertificate duly issued by the employer at the time of Viva-Voce along with an undertaking fromthe employer that in case of selection, the department will spare the candidate for joining theRPF.

k) The Railway Administration reserves the right to call an applicant to any place for theWritten Examination/PET /Viva-Voce/Documents Verification.

l) Railway Protection Force includes Railway Protection Special Force.

m)The Railway Administration shall not be responsible for postal delay or wrong delivery of theApplication or any Call letter

n)Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
