Rain Drops Keep Fallin’ On My Head
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turning red Crying's not for me Cause I ain't gonna stop the rain by complaining
Cause I just done me some talking to the sun And I said I didn't like the way he got things done Sleeping on the job Oh, raindrops keep fallin' on my head, keep a-fallin'
Oh yes Mr. Sun has been sleeping on the job with lots of rain on the playground. The good thing is no more puddles and play is so much fun as soon as Mr. Sun shines on us. The children are not complaining, as there is no better source than rain water to keep our edible garden thriving. If you haven't seen it yet, come by with your zip lock bag and pick some delicious basil for the weekend.
As we complete the first thirty days of school, it is evident that children are learn-ing, teachers are reflecting and the classrooms are evoking the interest of the children. We invite you to browse the walls of the classrooms and offer us your thoughts, as you celebrate your child’s successes. The first session of Parent/Teacher Conferences will be taking place in October. Please be sure to schedule a visit and catch up on what the start of your child’s school year has been with a more formal check –in of developmental milestones and goal setting as a family.
One of the highlights of September has been attending Dine in Wednesdays in
Fellowship Hall. I have had the opportunity to share bread with some of our
families. Thank you for sharing your family time with me.

Children’s work is their play...
Children learn from everything they do !
As we get ready for Holiday shopping here are a few
things to keep in mind. Just because a toy's pack-
aging says it's educational doesn't make it so. That's
the finding from a new study in JAMA Pediatrics that
found some toys being marketed as language pro-
moters got in the way of learning."

Research led by Anna Sosa of Northern Arizona
University gave parents of 10-16 month-olds books,
electronic toys or traditional toys and then recorded
the interactions the parents and children had. This
research shows that for language development
nothing is better than hearing spoken words — lots
of them. And it's never too early for parents and
caregivers to start talking.
"When there's something else that's doing some
talking, the parents seem to be sitting on the side-
lines and letting the toy talk for them and respond
for them," Sosa says. "That's bad because the best
way a toy can promote language in infants and tod-
dlers is by stimulating interaction between parent
and child. There's simply no evidence that a young
child can learn language directly from a toy. It isn't
responsive enough. It isn't social."
"As for the other toys, traditional blocks and puzzles
stimulated more conversation than the electronic
toys, and books outscored them all. But don't under-
estimate the humble block. While traditional toys fell
short of books in interaction quantity, Sosa notes,
they kept pace in terms of quality."
Technology can help teach older kids, but baby talk is best when it's human to human.
The Trouble with Talking Toys
Don’t forget Immunization/Health forms are required from your pediatrician or clinic around your child’s birth-day each year. Call your pediatrician to obtain most cur-rent, accurate forms. Remember, your child will not be able to attend preschool if there is an expired form on record.
Update on Zika
We have been monitoring the mosquitos on campus and it seems that the Terminix elixir is working. It’s all natural and oderless. If any of our families are interested in the treatment for your home, you can call Alfredo Peyno at 305-233-7997. Make sure to mention our school name and we will receive a $50 gift towards future extermina-tion for our school.
Playground fun can be memorable:
Keep all toys, bikes, cars on the sidewalk and bike trail. The bike trail runs in a clockwise direction always, to avoid collision. No “crashing” bikes into walls, other bikes, or children.
Encourage children to slow down when playing around younger siblings. Don’t allow children to play near the
gates. A 10 ft. rule is appropriate.
Please don’t “teach” a young child to climb the monkey bars. Only allow older experienced children on the mon-key bars. Please be near children when they are on mon-key bars to assist if necessary.
Children are not allowed to jump off the swings, climb on the wall, jump out of the windows of the Little House or stand on the banisters or bikes and wagons.
Children must keep sand in the sandbox and the mulch on the playground. No throwing of sand, mulch, or toys.
Watch the children and encourage them to treat each other with respect.
Children must be wearing their good grip shoes at all times.

Recycle, Rethink, Reuse Many parents have asked for a list of items we can use at school and we have decided that a good way to start is by looking at the items we can Recycle from home. Leave it up to us to Rethink and Repurpose. Find the bins at the school entrance.
Bottle caps of all sizes and colors including metal caps
Egg cartons of all sizes and materials (Styron foam, cardboard or plastic)
Styrofoam produce trays of all sizes and colors (please wash before)
Brown bags of all sizes
Boxes and packaging items
Containers plastic or glass. Please wash and remove labels including jello and fruit cups and baby jars with covers.

SIMPLE PUMPKIN SOUP
CUISINE: VEGAN, GLUTEN FREE
2 sugar pumpkins (~2 1/4 cups (450 g) pumpkin puree)
2 shallots, diced (~1/4 cup or 40 g)
3 cloves garlic, minced (1 1/2 Tbsp or 9 g)
2 cups (480 ml) vegetable broth
1 cup (240 ml) light coconut milk (or sub other non-dairy milk with varied results)
2 Tbsp (30 ml) maple syrup or agave nectar (or honey if not vegan)
1/4 tsp each sea salt, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg
1 cup (67 g) roughly chopped kale
1 large garlic clove, minced

Dine In Wednesdays! Coral Gables Congregational Church has a family
night dinner every Wednesday evening from 5:30-7:00pm. The dinner is held
in Fellowship Hall and the cost is $6 per adult and $4 per child. Please join us!

Parent Committee Takes off with Fundraising
