The SHP300-10 is an advanced traffic cabinet AC Service surge protector. This superb hybird protector was designed from the outset with the NEMA transient withstand specification in mind. The maximum clamp voltage of the protector(even at 20kA) is under 350 volts, whichprovides nearly a 50% safety margin when coordinated with NEMA TS1-2.1.6.2

Flexibility of installation is another design feature of the SHP300-10. The protector first and second stages are electrically separate (line side) for use in jurisdictions that require a linefilter between stages.

In addition, the first stage provides 20,000 ampere protection from MAIN NEUTRAL to GND as well as MAIN LINE to GND (ground). This is an often overlooked feature which becomes significant in locales where NEUTRAL must be kept separate from earth ground inside the cabinet.

The SHP300-10 hybird design exhibits performance levels unattainable with simple “shunt type” protectors. The two active clamp stages, large inductor and shunt capacitance effectively halt high rate-of-rise surge waveforms, thus preventing initial voltage overshoot. The output clamp voltage is never allowed to exceed 340 volts, even when subjected to a 20kA, 10,000 volt per microsecond waveform.

The ACP-340 filtering surge protector absorbs power line noise and switching transients that other suppres-sors and RFI filters pass through. In addition, this unit offers better lightning protection than the standard SHP300-10. The ACP-340 can replace the RFI filter when high attenuation of noise above 25 Mhz is not required.

Figure 1 illustrates the protection envelope concept of a high-quality surge protector such as the SHP300-10, when subjected to a noise spike as produced by a labo-ratory generator (i.e. Berkley 3020). Figure 2 illustrates the additional spike attenuation provided by the ACP-340, when subjected to the same magnitude spike.

If randon time-base, memory loss, or other problems are affecting some of your Intersections, this state-of-the-art protector can be of great benefit when properly installed.

The SHA-1250 is an upgraded version of the SHA-1210. The two models are equal in surge protection performance. The SHA-1250 also incorporates two LEDs for failure indicator in a modular package (utilizes 12 pin Beau connector). The hardwire terminal base accommo-dates all wiring and the protection module is designed for easy replacement. The footprint of the SHA-BASE is the same as the ACP-340 and SHA-1210. This makes retrofitting older cabinets easy because internal wire lengths do not have to be adjusted. The SHA-1250R offers remote sensing curcuitry output that is a dry relay contact closure suitable to inter-face with a modem or computer port for polling remotely. With this feaure, a central com-puter could detect a failed SHA-1250R at the intersection.

The SHA-1250 and SHA-1250R provide excellent noise suppression over a large frequency range. The chart below illustrates typical filtering characteristics. Typical noise attenuation is 10db @ 10Khz, 50 db @ 100 Khz and 90db @ 1 Mhz.

The SHA-1250 is specifically designed for both type 170 and NEMA Traffic controller cab-inets. The performance level is similar to the popular ACP-340. The unit consists of four basic sub-circuits. The SRA6LCA is a three-terminal device, two of which are connected across the signal inputs of the detector for differential mode protection, and the third terminal is grounded to protect against common mode damage.

Differential mode surges (induced voltage across the loop detector input terminals) and common mode surges (induced voltage between the loop leads and ground) are handled by solid state clamping devices. The SRA6LCA is intended for all popular makes of loop detectors presently on the market.

The SRA6LC is a three-terminal device, two of which are connected across the signal inputs of the detector for differential mode protection, and the third terminal is grounded to protect against common mode damage.

Differential mode surges (induced voltage across the loop detector input terminals) and common mode surges (induced voltage between the loop leads and ground) are handled by solid state clamping devices. The SRA6LC is intended for all popular makes of loop detectors presently on the market.

The SRA-16C-1 is a three terminal device, two of which are connected across the signal inputs of the detector for differential mode protection, and the third terminal is grounded to protect against common mode damage.

Differential mode surges (induced voltage across the loop detector input terminals) are clamped by a semi-conductor array instantly. The array is designed to appear as very low capacitance to the detector.

Common mode surges (induced voltage between the loop leads and ground) are handled by a rugged three-element gas discharge tube which operates (fires) at 90VDC and thereafter clamps the two loop leads to 30 volts in respect to ground. This design eliminates any ground noise from entering the loop detector and being amplified. The SRA-16C-1 is intended for all current detector models on the market.

The SPA-60B is an economical method of protecting circuitry associated with 120 VAC interconnect signal lines commonly used in traffic control systems.

The product is offered in four variations. The SPA-60BL protects one circuit and is fur-nished with two leads. The SPA-60BL-2 is identical except it protects two circuits and is furnished with three leads.

The SPA-60BS protects one circuit and consists of one lead and a stud (also used for mounting). The SPA-60BS-2 is identical except it protects two circuits and consists of two leads and a stud. Refer to Ordering Information on page 10-16.

In the presence of normal interconnect line voltage and frequency (60hz), the SPA-60B pos-sesses the ideal characteristics of high impedance across the protector and no impedance in series with the line. In the presence of transients, the protector appears as very low impedance, thereby shunting the surge to ground.

The SRA64 Series surge suppressor is a single pair cube implementing three stage hybrid technology. This cube addresses over voltage transients with gas tubes and silicon avalanche components. In addition, sneak and fault currents are mitigated with resettable fuses (PTCs). The PTCs increase resistance several orders of magnitude when overcurrents exceed safe levels. A normal state resumes when overcurrents are removed. The ability to self restore in this manner significantly increases suppressor performance and survivability.

The standard SRA64 second stage clamps are placed from each signal line-to-ground. In cer-tain cases, where ground potentials vary from site-to-site, a line-to-line only second stage clamp may be preferred. This variation is specified by a suffix “D” on the part number. In other cases, line-to-line and line-to-gorund second stage clamps may be preferred. This varia-tion uses an “X” suffix on the part number.

A variety of clamping voltages are available as standard. Reference the ordering information section to insure that a complete part number description is obtained.

Caution: This unit is not intended for use on standard video surveillance systems.

The CX Series Surge Suppressor is a single Coax Line Protector implementing three stage hybrid technology. This Protector addresses over voltage transients with gas tubes and silicon avalanche devices. In addition, sneak and fault currents are mitigated with new solid state resettable fuses - PTCs.

The CX Series is designed specifically for CCTV, DATA and AUDIO applications, offering two connector types BNC & F.

The CATV-145A application is specifically designed for lightning protection on Coax Cable TV Systems. The protector is easily installed with standard type F coax connectors. A ground wire must be attached to the unit. The CATV-145A offers low loss even at fre-quencies approaching 500 Mhz. This is important for error-free data communicationapplications.

The CX Series CCTV surge suppressors offer effective protection for cameras and secu-rity related equipment involving coaxial cable connections. Grounding is an important facet in proper protection. There are many applications where the camera ground reference is different from the head-end equipment ground reference. The standard CX series product internally connects the coax shield to the suppressor ground lug. In the case where the ground references are not the same (two different buildings) then the shield should be connected to ground only at the head-end equipment. Ground currents, which could com-promise data quality, can result if shield is connected to ground via the CX at the camera end. Therefore, the CX-I (isolated shield from ground) option is employed at the camera end. The shield is referenced through a gas tube protector to ground, but is internally isolated to avoid ground currents. If the ground reference at each end of the coax is the same, then the standard CX product can be used with success.
