What is the global warming?

The global warming is when the earth heats

up the temperature rises. It happens when greenhouse gases trap heat

and light from the sun in the earth`s atmosphere which increases the

temperature. This hurts many people, animals and plants. Many can`t

take the change, so they die.

What causes the global warming?

An increase in greenhouse gases in the earth`s

atmosphere.

2

What are greenhouse gases?

The main ones are carbon dioxide

(CO2), and methane (CH4).

What do greenhouse gases do?

They prevent heat from escaping from earth into space.

What has caused greenhouse gases to increase?

The burning of fossil fuels (such as oil

and gas). This emits CO2.

The destruction of tropical forests. Trees absorb

CO2.

Page 4: Raise your voice, not the sea level

3

The farming of rice and cattle (on large scale). These produce CH4.

How quickly is the world

warming?

The temperature of the

world may raise

3.5o

C by the year 2100.

What would be the main effects on

Egypt?

Firstly, if the global warming

continues to rise, the sea water will

4

expand. This may cause the Nile Delta to flood.

5

Secondly, more water in the soil will evaporate.

This may cause the land to become desert.

Thirdly, the sea will become hotter. This may cause coral reefs to

bleach and die.

Finally, some diseases, such as malaria, may increase.

6

How can we help to reduce global warming?

Use less fuel and electricity.

Buy more food from

local farmers.

Recycle paper and

aluminum.

Don`t use good made from

tropical hardwoods.

1. Turn off your computer or the TV

When you’re not using it.

2. Take shorter showers.

Heating water uses energy.

3. Keep rooms cool by closing the blinds,

shades, or curtains.

4. Turn off the lights when you leave a

room.

5. Use compact fluorescent bulbs.

6. Dress lightly when it’s hot instead of

turning up the air conditioning. Or use

a fan.

7. Dress warmly when

it’s cold instead of

turning up the heat.

8. Offer to help your parents keep

the air filters on your AC and

furnace clean.

9. Walk short distances instead of

asking for a ride in the car.

10. Plant a tree.
