CHOOSE SAFETY OVER CONVENIENCE

During a normal school day several students/families are crossing roads in dangerous situations. A concern is that drivers may not pay attention to students in all the congestion.

School zones are very busy and highly prone to accidents. To ensure everyone’s safety; we’ve listed a few handy safety tips.

For Parents, Caregivers and Children:

Walk on sidewalks where available

Always cross at intersections

Always walk your bicycle across a roadway

Children should:

Cross at school cross walks that have city crossing guards

Stop before stepping into the road

Increase their visibility and indicate their crossing intention to motorists

Look in all directions before crossing

Stop, Look and Listen for traffic

Cross safely when the road is clear

Walk, don’t run, across the road

A new bike rack was installed at our school in the fall of 2017. The rack is located next to the main entrance. It is easy and safe to use for all bike sizes. The racks support the frame of the bike, eliminating the possibility of the rack causing damage to the bike.

Bikes can be loaded onto the rack by rolling the front wheel of the bike between the two bars on the ground. The bike frame can then be rested on one of the rings along the rack. A cable lock or u-lock is needed to properly secure the bike to the rack.

NEW BIKE RACKS

Chronic lateness eventually takes its toll on a child's overall educational experience. Missing just 10 percent of the school year in the early grades causes many students to struggle in primary school, and lateness in later grades is associated with increased failure and dropout rates. Fortunately, parents can help prevent tardiness from becoming frequent enough to negatively impact their child's school life.

Disrupted Routines

One of the most important aspects of school is that it is organized, scheduled and predictable. When students are repeatedly late, these routines are disrupted for all students in the class.

LATES

EARLY DISMISSAL/PICK UPS Except in cases of emergency, your child should know that you are picking them up. End of day dismissal begins at 3:15 p.m. All students are expected to be picked up by 3:15 p.m.

Other Non-Routine After-School Pick Ups or Early Appointments:

To avoid unnecessary disruptions to classroom learning, we request that all early pickups be arranged with your son/daughter before school or a note placed in the child’s agenda. We cannot guarantee that your child’s class will be in their normal classroom for messages to be relayed appropriately.

Your help with is greatly appreciate.

LIBRARY NEWS

Forest of Reading Voting April 23 and 24th

Wow! So many incredible readers again this year! Our Paisley students have really taken to the challenge! We have lots of students reading in Silver Birch Clubs and/or Le Prix Tamarac clubs. Those students in Grade 3-6 that have read a minimum of 5 books in one club will be able to vote for their favourite books this April 26th and attend our Celebration June 7th at the Boathouse Restaurant and Royal City Park. In the case of bad weather we will reschedule for a date in early June. Students who miss the voting day can still see Mrs. Richer for a ballot before the 29th. It has been a pleasure to conference with students about the books, read their blog posts, e-mail, sees their artwork, written paragraphs and even a Slideshow by Wesley! Students have generated over 200 pages of written material as part of this club! Wow! These kids are awesome! Congratulations to Mandy for being the first student to finish reading 10 books and continuing. Many more will be added to our Tree of Fame! Our students really seem to enjoy the books this year! Thank you to Parent Council for their ongoing support of the Forest of Reading.

Keep up the great reading Paisley! Continuer à lire!

Primary Blue Spruce and Le Prix Peuplier Clubs

Our Kindergarten and Primary Paisley Panthers have also been participating in our Forest of Reading Clubs in their classrooms and during Library times. Students will be voting for their favourite books on April 23rd and 24th during our voting events in the front Foyer. The winning books will be announced and celebrated during special Library events in May.

Lost and damaged books

Thank you to the families who have paid or provided quality replacements for lost and damaged books. Accidents happen. When they do we appreciate your support of our library. Please let your child’s teacher or Ms. Richer know of any issues of lost or damaged books so we can help you resolve it and make sure your child continues to enjoy exchanging books.

Thanks to our Library Volunteers

Thank you to our wonderful team of volunteers in the library. Having parents working in our Library is such a gift. I am very grateful and so are the staff and students. You are amazing!

Grade 6 E-textiles and Electronics Club

Students have made wearable circuits and Bristle Bot Robots! You are really learning a lot about electronics! Keep making and creating! M. Woolfrey and Ms. Richer are impressed!

Book Drive coming soon!

Please save your books that would make good donations for Schools in Haiti, St. Lucia and Grenada. We hope to have students who will take charge of this initiative in May and June.

Yearbook Cover Contest

Do you want your art on the cover of this year’s yearbook? Think about highlights from this year and make it into art! Come to the Library and pick up a template. All entries will be due April 13th. The winner will be announced on April 18th. I can’t wait to see what you design!
