2012 NSW Boys Group Officer’s, NCO’s & Band

Training Camp Uniform – NCO Ranks

Where would a Leading Cadet wear his rank?



Training Camp Uniform – Officers Ranks

Where would a 1st Officer wear his rank?



Training Camp NCO Ranks – Leading Cadet

The first rank a cadet in the Australian Air League can gain.

They are leaders in training

They assist a Corporal to carry out his duties.

Leading Cadets may also act as an escort in the Flag Party.



Training Camp NCO Ranks – Corporal

A Corporal is the N.C.O. in charge (I.C) of a Section

They are responsible for the drill and discipline of their Section

Carry out other duties as directed by their Officer Commanding (O.C.)

Corporals must also be flag bearers in the Flag Party



Training Camp NCO Ranks – Sergeant

Sergeants are in charge of a Flight or Flag Party

They are responsible for the drill and discipline of cadets in Flight/Flag Party

Carry out other duties as directed by their Officer Commanding (O.C.)



Training Camp NCO Ranks – Drum Major

The Drum Major is a Supernumerary rank

They are equal to a Sergeant

Take charge of a Band when directed



Training Camp NCO Ranks – Squadron Sergeant

The Squadron Sergeant is the senior N.C.O in a Squadron

In charge of the fall-in and dismissal of the Squadron

They preside over the monthly meetings of N.C.O.'s

and can take part in Officer meetings

Teach by example the ethics and principles of the Air League



Training Camp NCO Ranks – What are these?

Leading Cadet

Corporal

Sergeant

Squadron Sergeant

Drum Major



Training Camp Warrant Officer

A Supernumerary member of the Squadron

They are not attached to a Flight or Section but assists various Officers



Training Camp Trainee Officer

A Supernumerary member of the Squadron

They Carry out the functions of an N.C.O

They undertake general training and complete a full course of study.



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Second Officer

The first Officer rank an adult will be promoted to

after serving as a Warrant Officer.



Training Camp Officer Ranks – First Officer

After serving for a period as a Second Officer,

an Officer may be promoted to this Rank.



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Squadron Lieutenant

This is the highest Rank that Squadron Officers can achieve,

only surpassed by the Officer Commanding

Higher ranks are reserved for Wing, Group, and Federal Officers.



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Squadron Captain

Squadron Captain is the Rank of the Officer Commanding of a Squadron

They are in charge of all aspects of Squadron activities.



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Wing Captain

Wing Captain is the Rank of the Officer Commanding of a Wing



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Group Lieutenant

A Group Lieutenant is an Officer on Group Staff



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Group Commissioner

An Officer on Group staff who holds an appointment



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Lieutenant Commissioner

The Rank of the Group Executive Commissioner of a state

An Officer on Federal staff such as a Federal Field Commissioner



Training Camp Officer Ranks – Chief Commissioner

The Chief Commissioner is the highest rank of the Australian Air League



Training Camp Officer Ranks – What are these ranks?

Trainee Officer 2nd Officer 1st Officer Sqn Lieutenant

Training Camp Appointments – Officer Commanding Squadron

• Exercise command and control over all members of the Sqn/Branch

• Co-ordinate all activities at a squadron level

• Manage the operation of the Squadron on a day to day basis

• Promote the development of the league within the squadron area

• Ensure that all rules affecting members of the squadron are abided

• Monitor the operation of the Squadron/branch committee

• Co-ordinate and chair meetings of Squadron staff

• Be the custodian of all Squadron records and property

• Be a member of the Squadron Branch Committee

• Recommend Squadron members for appointment and promotion

• Perform other duties as directed by the Officer Commanding Wing

• Properly maintain all files, documents and records



Training Camp Appointments – Squadron Staff

(Officer Attached)

• Attend Staff Meetings

• Perform other duties as may be directed by the O.C



Training Camp Appointments – Squadron 2.I.C

• Maintain liaison with the O.C on matters concerning squadron

• Co-ordinate in conjunction with the O.C that Sqn/Branch members

follow rules

• Assist in the development of league within the Squadron area

• Co-ordinate applications for AAL Awards

•Co-ordinate nominations for Group Cadet(s) of Year



Training Camp Appointments – Sqn Adjutant

• Keep minutes & records of meetings of Sqn Staff

• Report to O.C on decisions made at meetings

• Oversee administration functions within the Squadron

• Receive all monies due to the Squadron and to issue receipts

• Prepare Sqn Routine Orders, Standing Orders & Squadron Instructions

• Maintain all forms in use by Squadron

• Be a member of Squadron Branch Committee



Training Camp Appointments – Sqn Air Activities

• Ensure the efficient operation of Air Activities

• Organise Air Activities Events

• Ensure precautions are taken for welfare of members undertaking A.A



Training Camp Appointments – Drill

• Ensure the efficient operation of drill and band activities

• Organise all Squadron Parades

• Ensure that camping activities are properly controlled and

necessary precautions are taken for the welfare of members whilst

engaged in camping activities



Training Camp Appointments – Education

• Ensure the efficient operation of education activities

• Organise all Squadron Education Displays/Competitions

• Make recommendations through the O.C for the issue of replacement

authority cards for education badges



Training Camp Appointments – Physical Activities

• Ensure efficient operation of Physical Activities

• Ensure precautions are taken for welfare of members undertaking P.A

• Make recommendations for the issue of P.A authority cards & Badges

• Organise all Squadron P.A Carnivals/Events



Training Camp Appointments – Quartermaster

• Responsible for the ordering of Uniform

• Responsible for the Maintenance of equipment with the Sqn
