Variables for Exercise #6

Dependent Variable: RAP ‘R’s liking for rap’

Independent Variable: AGECAT ‘R’s age’

Control Variable: RACE ‘R’s race’

Bivariate Hypothesis: The younger the respondent is in age the more likely they are to

like rap music. Respondents between the ages of 18-29 had the larger percentage of age

groups like liked rap music. Respondents between the ages of 30-39 had a much larger

percentage of dislike in comparison to the younger age group. The age group that

Multivariate Hypothesis: The race of the respondent has an impact on their dislike or

like for rap music. Black and “other” race respondents had the highest percentages of like

between the ages of 18-29. White respondents between the ages of 18-29 had a majority

percentage for dislike. White respondents dislike for rap music percentage wise grew

larger with age. Black and „other‟ race respondents‟ percentage followed this trend as

well.

like rap music. 52.4 percent of the respondents between the ages of 18-29 liked rap

music. The percentages of respondents who disliked rap music sharply increased with

age. 61.3 percent of respondents between the ages of 30-39 disliked rap. While,

respondents in the age group of 40+ disliked rap music 78.5 percent of the time.

Multivariate Discussion: The race of the respondent has an impact on their dislike or

like for rap music. 81.6 percent of Black respondents in the age group of 18-29 liked rap

music. 83.3 percent of “other” race respondents also liked rap music. 44.7 percent of

White respondents like rap music between the ages of 18-29. White respondents dislike
