DIPLOMACY & CONFLICT STUDIES

The specialization combines ideas, skills and practices for effective twenty-first century diplomacy, conflict management, and engagement in international development work. Students are encouraged to explore the great transformations currently shaping the global order and to develop the understanding, vision, and tools necessary to become leaders in addressing those transformations. The specialization provides students with unique opportunities to analyze how international conflicts emerge, evolve, and how they can be managed through negotiation, mediation, and peacebuilding. By gaining knowledge and tools, students will be better equipped to address emerging trends in international diplomacy (including public diplomacy), conflict management, and the range of complex challenges in the globalized world.

The program also offers two certificate-granting elective concentrations: Contemporary Middle East Politics, headed by Prof. Shaul Mishal, provides in depth exploration of the contemporary dynamics shaping the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

International Development concentration, headed by Dr. Jennifer Shkabator, seeks to nurture outstanding young leaders and social entrepreneurs interested in leveraging Israeli innovation for the benefit of international development and humanitarian assistance work around the world.

INSTITUTE FOR POLICY AND STRATEGY (IPS)

THE HERZLIYA CONFERENCE SERIES

As a leading think tank on Middle East risk assessment, the primary mission of the Institute for Policy and Strategy (IPS) at IDC Herzliya is to contribute to Israel’s national policy and to the upgrading of its strategic decision-making process. Established in 2000, the range of IPS projects encompasses a variety of issues crucial to Israel. IPS conducts policy research on a broad analytical scope to identify evolving issues and trends and to assess emerging risks and opportunities. Concentrating on Middle East politics and Israel’s foreign affairs, IPS also invests in innovative methodologies and policy analysis focusing on political/strategic risk assessment and management.

The Annual Herzliya Conference on the Balance of Israel’s National Security is the flagship of IPS activities. The Conference exclusively draws together international and Israeli participants from the highest levels of government, business and academia to address the most pressing national, regional and global issues.

IPS cultivates close working relations with governments, public institutions, think-tanks and research institutes around the world. Drawing on its range of networks and convening power, IPS fosters informed dialogue and policy debate also through high-level summitry. These debates impact national policy by producing pragmatic responses that tangibly advance the national interests of Israel.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICESThe IDC Herzliya Psychological Counseling Service is designed to promote the health and well-being of students. Resident psychologists provide professional, individualized counseling in both scholastic and personal matters - from problems related to social integration and learning disabilities to personal conflicts and crises. All counseling is kept strictly confidential. If extended treatment is recommended, the student is referred to a suitable off-campus professional. The Psychological Counseling Service also sponsors workshops on topics such as coping with anxiety in testing situations and inter-personal relations.

IDC HERZLIYA Degrees granted by IDC Herzliya are accredited by the Israel

Council for Higher Education and are recognized worldwide.

The school’s faculty is world-renowned having earned their degrees from the world’s finest universities with a high percentage from the Ivy League.

Tuition at IDC Herzliya is significantly lower than tuitions of colleges and universities of a similar stature in the United States.

The school helps young, bright adults and promising students to develop the skills to become future leaders.

International students learn side by side with their Israeli counterparts and are involved in all aspects of campus life.

The school offers an extensive extracurricular program that takes students beyond the boundaries of the IDC Herzliya campus and acquaints them with the long, rich history and diversity of Israel.

HEALTH INSURANCEAll IDC Herzliya students are required to have comprehensive health insurance coverage throughout the period of their studies. Israeli residents, including new immigrants, receive national health insurance for a low monthly fee in accordance with the country’s health insurance legislation. International students who are not covered by Israel’s national health insurance must purchase a health insurance policy which will cover their health needs while studying at IDC. We have made special arrangements with HAREL YEDIDIM to insure international students who are not covered by Israel’s National Health Insurance (bituach leumi). This insurance plan provides comprehensive health coverage for $790 US per academic year* which will be charged at the beginning of each year. In order to have continuous coverage, the policy will automatically be renewed from one academic year to the next unless the student notifies the school in writing that he/she wishes to cancel.

* Rates are subject to change according to insurance company rate fluctuations.
