The very articulate and soft spoken gentleman made sure of our comfort before proceeding with the chitchat. An established designer himself, Mr. Bhambani had been in the trade of fashion wear Kolkata for the past 3 decades.

Throughout his experience in this trade, Mr. Bhambani observed an immense liking and demand for his garments amongst his Bangladeshi clients. He noticed that people from Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh thronged Kolkata for their fashion shopping needs. This inspired him to try out a similar venture in Dhaka. This thought process gave birth to the first ever fashion mall in Dhaka around 30 years ago.

The tall slender honey eyed beauty of Bengal has been ruling the hearts of millions of Bengalis since the past 3 decades. Her

contribution to Bengali as well as Indian mainstream movie has left a significant mark in the film industry.

Rituparna’s initiation into showbiz was with a Bengali tele-series ‘Sada Paira’. Her performance in ‘Sada Payra’ caught the eyes of eminent director Prabhat Roy who offered her a role in the box office smasher ‘Shwet Patharer Thala’. After this there was no looking back for Ritu.

Even though Ritu did not come from a family of actors, her family had always been culturally inclined. According to Rituparna, her grandmother has been one of the most influential people in her life. Her mother was also a very good writer and singer though she never really got the opportunity to nurture her talents.

Rituparna’s relationship with performing arts began at the age of 10 years.

According to her, “I had never considered giving the acting profession a serious thought. My parents always had a lot of reservations about me getting into acting. But somehow I managed to overcome all hurdles that stood in my way.” Apart from being an accomplished actress, Rituparna is also a trained dancer. “I was greatly attracted to Manipuri dancing, and as I matured, I moved on to Odissi”, she says.It was under the influence of her uncle Dr. Indrajit Sengupta, Rituparna nurtured her writing skills. Her writings used to appear in Ananda Bazar Patrika. She used to write for ‘Banglar Hridoy’ and ‘Anandalok’.

Though Rituparna has carved a niche for herself in the world of films, she never had a formal training in acting. Post her success in `Shwet Patharer Thala’, Rituparna was offered yet another mega tele-series `Cinemawala’. Then followed a long stream of successful Bengali movies like `Sujan Sakhi’, `Moner Manush’ and ‘Nag Panchami’. Her popularity reach far and wide and she worked with eminent film personalities like Tarun Majumdar, Sandip Roy, Aparna Sen, Shiboprasad Mukherjee and many more.

“I personally like to wear Premji’s ensembles. The way he defines beauty of a woman through his garments is unique, stylish and sober.”
