Our Mission Statement

To assist the family by providing a Christ-centered, Bible-based education, that inspires each student to pursue

excellence in spiritual growth, moral character, academics, fine arts, physical fitness and service to others.

RCMP Appreciation Day

We would like to express our many thanks to those who donated items toward our RCMP Appreciation Day that took place December 17. Both Constable Bill Peterson and Constable Mike Chiu were very surprised at the generosity and quantity of the gifts given by the BCCA community. This was a very tangible way to love not just with words but in both actions and in truth (1 John 3:18). Furthermore, both Constables took time out of their schedule to talk to the elementary students

about general safety (Gr. K-7) and guidelines for safe internet use (Gr. 5-7). Highlights from their talk are noted below:

General Safety Kids should know their address, phone number, and

parent’s first names. If kids are ever made uncomfortable by a stranger, yell,

“You’re not my mom/dad!” Generally, a “safe stranger” is someone who wears a

uniform. Guidelines for Safe Internet Use Keep private information off the internet as much as possible. Do not be friends with someone over the internet unless you know them and would call them on the phone. When you post something, you’re not just posting to your friends - you’re posting to the whole world.

Important Traffic Reminder We are pleased that there have not been any accidents this year during the busy drop-off and pick-up times. However, there are a few small areas of improvement that can make a big difference.

First, please pull ahead to the far sign when dropping off or picking up. This allows more cars to pull up to the curb smoothly.

Second, please do not stop and drop your child off in the middle of the road no matter how quickly you think you will be.

Third, be reminded that for BCCA families Oakdale becomes a “one-way” street during drop-off and pick-up, and Evergreen becomes a “no-entry” street during this time. This ensures that the morning and afternoon traffic is minimally disrupted.

Fourth, it is imperative that all our driving reflect the 30 km/h school zone speed on Lincoln and 10 km/h on Oakdale, Fernwood, and Evergreen Cres.

Finally, while these rules primarily are aimed at keeping our children and their families safe, we also want to show our neighbors that we respect their community, property, and well-being. Colossians 4:5 encourages us to “be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.”

Re-Registration This a reminder to all parents who have not already re-registered that the cutoff is January 15th, 2016 in

order to avoid additional registration fees.

Legacy Builders Breakfast Our school’s annual “Legacy Builders’ Breakfast” fundraising event is COMING UP. This is our once a year major fundraising in school where we find and build passionate donors who will share with our mission of equipping students to impact the world for Jesus. This year’s theme is “Bringing Hope and Building Dreams.” We are now looking for Table Captains who will agree to head up a table, fill it with 10 guests from one’s treasured list of friends, family members, co-workers, church mates, doctors and dentists and attend this inspiring one-hour free breakfast fundraising event on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Executive Plaza Hotel. If interested, please email [email protected] or speak to Mr. Dowell or Ana Enduma from the Marketing Office.

Building Security Procedures All the exterior doors of the school are closed and locked each day at 4pm. After hours access will be through the front doors of the school only. Kindly help us to keep our building safe by reminding your child(ren) to check that any door they exit from is securely locked behind them, and to never leave the doors ajar for someone who might be coming in later. For the security of our practicing sports teams, staff and janitors, we ask that each of us be diligent about helping to secure the building every afternoon. Those picking up their child(ren) from sports practices in the gym will need to pick them up through the double doors at the SE corner of the gym.

2016-2017 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION NOW OPEN There's EARLY BIRD KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION BONUS for families who register their incoming

Kindergarten child to our school before January 30. They will receive $50 bonus off the registration fee!!!

A Home Please be in prayer that God would provide a location for our school, whether it be our current

location or elsewhere and that He will continue to increase our numbers! We appreciate your prayers, thank you.

“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:” — Psalm 127:1a

Join our Parent Prayer Group at BCCA We invite you to join us once a week to pray for our school community, staff and students. We meet every Friday (except holidays) from 8:30 - 9:15am in the staff room.

Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the night watches! Pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord! Lift your hands to him for the lives of your children, who faint for

hunger at the head of every street. — Lamentations 2:19

Mission Trip Please be in prayer for our mission trip planning team and God’s provision. Keep the students in prayer as well, that God would tug on the hearts of all our young people that they would desire to

share Christ here and abroad.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” — Matthew 28:19

This year the grade six and seven girls have an opportunity to develop their basketball skills and knowledge of the game. The girls’ basketball tournament is on Feb. 11 John Knox Christian this year. Practices will be

held Tuesday and Friday mornings from 7:30 am (sharp) – 8:15 am.

Here are expectations to consider if you are thinking about joining the girls’ team. 1. You will need to be at all practices (if you can’t make it, you need to let the

coach know). 2. You come to practices with the understanding that you may not play a lot in

the games/tournament. 3. You are able to keep up with your homework. 4. We expect that you come with the right attitude and ready to work hard.

If any of the above expectations are not met at any time, the coach has the right to dismiss a student from practices, games, or the tournament. Miss Carreiro will coach this year’s team. We would like to remind you that we need parent drivers to help us take players to the tournament on February 11 and any other exhibition games we may have. If this works out with your schedule, that would be great!

Gr. 6/7 Girls’ Athletics Basketball Coach: Elisa-Maria Carreiro

This year the elementary staff are reading Not A Fan by Kyle Idleman. The crux of the book is

that “Jesus was never interested in having admirers. It’s not fans he is looking for.” As we learn

from this book, we would like to pass on passages that challenged and provoked our

thinking. Join us by considering the quotes below.

In chapter four, the following excerpts were of interest:

- “Like the things that disappoint us, the things that excite us can also point to

something or someone that is in competition with Jesus.”

- “How you spend your money tells a story about what matters the most to

you.”

In chapter five, the following excerpts were of interest:

- “Jesus is going to strongly oppose these religious leaders [Pharisees] because

he doesn’t want people to confuse following the rules with following him.”

- “That’s what Christ wants in a follower - someone who isn’t pretending on the

outside to have it all together.”
