63 rd College Day Report 2014-2015 The year 2014 -2015 marks a historical landmark for the institution as GVG is crowned with ‘A’ grade by NAAC with a highest score of CGPA of 3.53 in the 4 point scale. Sri GVG. Visalakshi College stands as an exemplary educational edifice providing quality education to thousands of women students; mostly from socially disadvantaged groups for 62 years. It is the philanthropy of our founder Thiru.G.Govindasamy Naidu and his dedicated descendents, the intellectual genius of Principals and teachers that has made the GVG college a seat of social reforms, cultural renaissance, intellectual awakening for the young women of myriad generations in this part of the country. The year 2014 -2015 marks a historical landmark for the institution as GVG is

crowned with ‘A’ grade by NAAC with a highest score of CGPA of 3.53 in the 4 point scale.

Sri GVG. Visalakshi College stands as an exemplary educational edifice providing

quality education to thousands of women students; mostly from socially disadvantaged

groups for 62 years. It is the philanthropy of our founder Thiru.G.Govindasamy Naidu and

his dedicated descendents, the intellectual genius of Principals and teachers that has made the

GVG college – a seat of social reforms, cultural renaissance, intellectual awakening for the

young women of myriad generations in this part of the country.

The academic year 2014 -2015 has brought many accomplishments and also made us

see the gaps in some areas where there is a definite scope for improvement. Against this

background let me present the 63rd college day report.

ADMISSIONS

The college reopened on 18th June 2014. With the introduction of UG Course in

Tamil, the number of courses risen to 19 UG Courses and 7 PG courses. The student strength

as on date is 2919 with 627 students residing in the hostel. 1115 students have received

scholarships to the tune of Rs. 34,87,395. The college received Rs. 24,045,86 as grant from

UGC.

The college Union and its affiliated clubs had its formal Inauguration by

Dr.P.K.Manohar, Registrar, Bharathiar University , Coimbatore.

Distinguished persons were invited from all walks of life to deliver special

addresses, motivational talks and inspiring speeches. This is done to infuse in the students a

sense of leadership and social commitments and elevate themselves to empower individuals.

A research article of Mrs. S.Kalaichelvi, Associate Professor in Zoology entitled

“Potential Ecological Assessment of Sediment Quality and Heavy Metals Contamination in

Kuruchi Lake – Tamilnadu, India” was accepted for publication by Journal of Materials and

A research article was published in National Summit on “Recent trends in bio

sciences- Bio trends 2014” conducted by Bio-zone Research Technologies Private Limited,

Chennai on 12.10.15- 13.10.14 at IIT Chennai entitled:’ A comparative study on physical

properties of poly culture, monoculture soil and Termitoria Soil.

A research article was published by Dr. K. Shobana, Assistant Professor in Zoology

entitled “Impact of climate change on filarial vector, Culex quinquefasciatus and control

ACT Conference on ICT Summit Leadership on 17th December 2014 at Hotel Park Plaza,

Salem.

Ms.M.Suriyapraba, Assistant Professor in Dept of Computer Science Attened a

“Research Methodology Programme” on 05th August 2014 at STC College, Pollachi.

A.Anis Fathima, Head, Assistant Professor in Dept of Computer Science

published “On pairwise I - Semi continuous and pairwise I semi irresolute functions” in the

Journal of Advanced studies In topology (accepted). She attended “National level Seminar on

“Recent developments in topology” in Sri Sarada College for Women, Salem.

OUR STUDENTS EXCEL

Three of our II M.Com students presented a paper on Social Entrepreneurship in the

national level seminar at PSGR Krishnammal College for women on 11.2.2015.

R.GayathriDevi of I.B.Com was awarded Kalki Sadhasivam Memorial Scholarship of

Rs.7500.

V.Bhoomathy of I.B.Com and A.Arthi of II.BCom won the first prize in Wealth Out

of Waste competition held at Thiruppur Kumaran College for women on 25.2.15.

D.Priyanka II.B.Com won first prize in Mehanthi competition from the same the

same college in the same intercollegiate meet.

C.MarlinVincent of II .M.Com and L.N.Subhasree I M.Com won second prize in

Brain Master Competition from the same college in the intercollegiate meet.

B.Umamaheswari, S.Sharmilasri,D.Arthi of II B.Com A.Anysuyadevi I.B.Com and

L.N.Subhasree I M.Com and won the third prize in BUILD BUZZ in the competition held

Thiruppur Kumaran College for women on 25.2.15.

A.Anushya Devi of I.B.Com won the third prize in flameless cooking in the same

programme.

V.Nandhini of III BCom secured the II prize for Rangoli competitions held at SNMV

College, Coimbatore, N.G.M College, Pollachi and Wisdom School of Management,

Pollachi.

S. Mohanapriya I.B.Com and K. Kalpana Devi of II.B.Com were given participation

certificates for Photography the in the competition held Thiruppur Kumaran College for

women on 25.2.15.

M.Divya and J.P.Thempavai of II M.Sc Mathematics attended and presented a paper

on the topic “Fuzzy graphs and fuzzy relations” in the National Seminar on “Modern

techniques and applications in Mathematics NSMTAM 15” on 6.02.2015.

M.Sathiya Priya ,M. Phil. scholar and V. Suganya of II M.Sc. Mathematics attended

and presented a paper on the topic “An EPQ Model of ramp type demand with Weibull

deterioration under inflation and finite horizon in crisp and fuzzy environment” in the

National Seminar on “Modern techniques and applications in Mathematics NSMTAM 15” on

6.02.2015.

II M.Sc. Physics students underwent Summer internship in the National laboratory at

Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam & the Center for

Nanoscience and Technology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore during May and June 2014.

Ms.M.Suiryaprabha & K.Ishwarya of I M.Sc. Physics participated in the Refresher

Course on “Quantum Physics” organized by Indian Academy of Sciences for 15 days during

december 2014.

Physics presented papers in the UGC sponsored National Conference on X-Ray

Crytallogarphy organized by the Department of Physics, Vijaya College, Bangalore.

2 Faculty members of Ms.M.Saravanapriya, Ms.B.Shanmugapriya & 3 PG students attended

National workshop on “Multi functional Materials” at Thiagarajar College of Engineering,

Madurai in January 2015.

17 I PG students participated in the Science Academies’ lecture workshop on “Recent

trends in Physics ” organized by Department of Physics NGM College Pollachi for two days

January 2015.

III and II Undergraduate students participated in the Inter-collegiate physics fest at

Nandha College of Arts and Science, Erode and won prizes February 2015.

116 students of B.Sc Physics wrote National Graduate Physics Examinations organized

by Indian Association of Physics Teachers at National level.

III B. Sc.(Zoology) students underwent one week training programme in clinical labs to

acquire knowledge in clinical laboratory techniques.

A certificate course in Organic farming was jointly conducted by TNAU, Coimbatore

for students of III B.Sc. Zoology.

III B. Sc. students underwent training programme in Apiculture at

TNAU,Coimbatore.

III B. Sc. students underwent training in Ornamental fishes, Poultry farming at local

centers.

13 students of III B.Sc. Zoology have attended Workshop Vermitech-14 at NGM

College, Pollachi.

G.Santhiya priya of III B.Com (CA) and S.Annalakshmy of I B.Com (CA) has

participated in the Youth Conclave organised jointly by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of

Youth Development outreach program from 27.1.2015 to 28.1.2015 at STC

College,Pollachi.
