Some words of Surrealism

I’m going to be talking about my surrealism project. Let me first explain about surrealism . Surrealism is a type of art in which the artist uses real life objects but adds surprises. Things cannot always be what they seem in surrealism.

Salvador Dali was a famous surrealist artist. He made many famous paintings. I’m going to talk about one of his most famous works which is the persistence of memory. I’m sure you have seen it , it’s the one with melted clocks. When I first saw it I was confused because of the painting. With melted clocks and half faces and ants it didn’t make any sense. I was told then

that the idea of this painting only matters to the one who made it . But this was is amazing , the detail of the face and the way the clocks are placed in their melting forms is perfect. My eyes were jumping from one part of it to another just trying to figure it out. To create my work I had to first see some surrealism paintings to get a good idea of what it is . Then after that I had to think of an idea . After that I started to draw my art work down . After that I did some shading and then some coloring with color pencils . Then I shaded the texture on the work , and I was done. If had to do this project again I would have not added some shapes which had ruined my

work because I had made a mistake of adding them. I felt really great working on this assignment because it felt nice to draw my own story. While doing this project I had noticed how my contour drawing skills had improved. My hand that I drew was looking more realistic. I

was very satisfied with my final results . I thought that it looked great. My painting shows what I see the world becoming The flower pot with the hand growing from it is a juxtaposition shows the human race emerging or alive, then i have a timer on the flower pot with timer counting down and it’s at 00:01, I shaded the digits black with a marker and the timer red so that it would draw people’s attention. I used this to show that we are contributing to our own doom. Then then is a cloth with water dripping down it to show some hope. To the right we see the ground crumbling. This is to show that we don’t have

much time to change our ways. Then in the landscape we see a apocalyptic future . I showed tall buildings that were destroyed and a mushroom cloud to show what could happen if we don’t fix our ways now.  The one thing that I could fix was that my buildings in the background could look more 3D.

When you look at this painting what do you

see. I see a wild party , a night at a restaurant.

With a black background Kandinsky’s

Composition X and wild shapes. It might appeal

to some and some and maybe not to others.

Overall it’s a composition with lines, shapes,

and very good balance.

A Kandinsky Look

Still life with Absinthe by Van Gogh

Th stillness and detail of this painting

is what caught my attention. -Ruchit

Starry Night by Vincent

Van Gogh.

This painting has a

pleasant mode and a

good use of colors.

The Conflict This painting shows two different forces . An offensive force which is

the cloud with lightning . The other force which is the shaded ground is being attacked. The streaks which are around the lightning are to emphasize it . Its like a storm cloud from which lightning is coming and is being absorbed by the earth , but the earth can;t really attack so both sides are practically helpless no matter what they do. This can model a lot conflicts throughout the world, such as a flight between siblings.
