OUTLINE
• What is BioSharing?
• How can we help?
• Making a Collection, tailored to you or your users
A$web$based,$curatedand$searchable.portal.where$biologicalstandards and$databases are$registered,$linked and$discoverable.
We$monitor$the$development$and$evolution$of$standards,$their$use$in$databases$and$the$adoption$of$both$in$data$policies.$
Our mission: To help people make the right choice
Researchers,$developers and$curators lack$support$and$guidance$on$which$format$or$checklist$standards$to$use,$or$database$to$deposit$their$data.$
Journal1publishers,$funders and$librarians do$not$have$enough$information$to$make$informed$decisions$on$which$content$standards$or$database$to$recommended$ in$policies,$or$fund$or$implement.
Mapping Standards and Databases in the Life Sciences
“Which standard should I use for this data, considering I’d like to publish in X journal?
“Are we using the most up-to-date version of this standard?”
“What database/repository is recommended for my data/organism?”
I’m funded by X, which standards should I use for my data and in which database should I deposit it?
Three interlinked registries
Linking between registriesSTANDARD DATABASE
Search, filter, refine
Search, filter, refine
Advanced field-by-field search
Filter by: • type of standard• Biological domain (e.g. proteomics, anatomy)• Accessibility• Species• Funder agency… and more!
Refine by:• Publication• Maintainer• Current or deprecated
Add, claim and link
Why claim?

The BioSharing Registry: connecting data policies, standards and databases in the life sciences
The products of the WG:
• principles for linking information about databases, content standardsand journal and funder policies in the life sciences
• these will be implemented in an existing registry (BioSharing)
