Key Questions
RDM training previously reviewed in 2012-13http://blogs.lshtm.ac.uk/rdmss/files/2013/04/LSHTM-RDM-Web-Survey-Report.pdf
![Page 3: RDM Training for health researchers: An institutional perspective](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022022202/587e84281a28abd6038b6fa5/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Motivation
University drive to introduce RDM training motivated by many factors:
• Ensure compliance
• Improve funding prospects
• Enhance research practice
![Page 4: RDM Training for health researchers: An institutional perspective](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022022202/587e84281a28abd6038b6fa5/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Analysis of existing training
Training sources:
• Research degree modules
• Moodle online courses
• Transferrable Skills/ Bloomsbury Postgraduate Skills Network
• Talent & Education Development (TED) for staff
• Ad-hoc lunchtime events
Challenges:
• Vague course description
• Differences in terminology
![Page 5: RDM Training for health researchers: An institutional perspective](https://reader031.vdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022022202/587e84281a28abd6038b6fa5/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Preliminary findings
• Literature review of course descriptions for ‘data’, ‘information’ & ‘record’ identified:
– 2 LSHTM research degree modules
– 4 LSHTM short courses
– 12 LSHTM DL modules (5 disciplinary, 7 software specific)
– 22 Bloomsbury Skills modules
• Most RDM training focus upon principles, capture & analysis
• Inconsistent practice across disciplines - majority of Bloomsbury courses focus upon social sciences
• Majority of RDM modules aimed at beginner, with no clear progression to advanced modules

Determining current/future Needs
LSHTM Data Management Plans:• Using mobile devices for data capture
• Advanced ‘de-identification’ techniques
• Sharing consortium data
Course feedback forms:• Hands-on data encryption tool training
RDM Training survey (Spring 2016)• Aimed at lecturers in first instance

RDM Training delivery
• DIY RDM training material is available on JORUM & elsewherehttp://find.jorum.ac.uk/collections/rdm
• RDM staff can organise training modules
• How do we persuade lecturers to take-up consistent RDM material & embed it into their RD modules & courses?
