Re-Examining Volunteer Florida’s STATEWIDE EVALUATION
Of
Florida’s AmeriCorps Programs
DID YOU KNOW…….??
• Volunteer Florida designed the Statewide Evaluation to be cost-effective for AmeriCorps and painless for programs (you don’t have to hire your own Evaluator unless your funding exceeds $500,000 annually).
• FSU owns the survey and administers it, but it was designed by a small group of Florida AmeriCorps program directors who piloted and refined it for FSU.
Evaluation vs. Performance Measures:Why do we need both?
Evaluation• Uses scientific/rigorous
research methods• Long-term focus: covers
more than one year• Answers questions
about causality and “Value Added” to the community served
Performance Measures• Gives annual snapshot
of programs’ progress• Used for on-going
monitoring of outputs and outcomes
• Short-term accountability to show if a program is “on track”
AmeriCorps programs MUST identify and involve 3 Community Partners to respond to survey twice a year
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO STRENGTHEN YOUR PARTNERSHIPS!
IT’S REQUIRED!
• FLORIDA AMERICORPS PROGRAMS mustparticipate in the Statewide Evaluation ofAmeriCorps programs to be considered for re-compete funding. Our response rate from program directors must be 100%!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Each time FSU conducts the survey (Spring and Fall), Volunteer Florida needs your help:
• Alert your partners the survey is underway;• Remind your partners to complete the survey;• Insure the survey is being sent to the person who
will be completing the survey;• Notify FSU if a partner/contact person changes.
Statewide Evaluation:Value to Your Program
• Provides program-specific reports;• Serves as a basis for technical assistance or
needed program improvement;• Provides evidence of community impact
-“what is the value added to my community?”• Shows change over time (Spring vs. Fall and
year to year);• Required for CNCS re-compete applications.
Sample 2012 Program Data• In the last year, AmeriCorps St. Lucie/Indian River Reads! has
submitted funding proposals with all of their surveyed community partners.
• 100% of the surveyed partners said that their partnership with AmeriCorps St. Lucie/Indian River Reads! improves their visibility in the community.
• In the last year, AmeriCorps St. Lucie/Indian River Reads! has co-sponsored an event with all of the their community partners.
• AmeriCorps St. Lucie/Indian River Reads! has completed a Memorandum of Understanding with all of their surveyed community partners.
