UNIVERSAL RESPONSE PROCEDURES

• Evacuation• Alert Status• Lockdown• Severe Weather Safe Area

When an announcement is made or alarm sounded:

• Take the closest and safest way out of the building by the evacuation routes as posted in your classroom. If primary route is blocked, use secondary route

• Take roll book for student accounting• Assist those needing special assistance• Do not stop for student or staff belongings• Go to designated assembly areas• Check for injuries• Take attendance to account for all students• Wait for further instructions

Evacuations exits are posted in all occupied areas. This is one posted in every classroom and office. In the event the primary route is blocked, use the secondary.

ALERT STATUS(For use in securing access to the building , usually a community emergency event)

Staff and students will be informed over the intercom of the ALERT STATUS

• Secure the facility by locking all doors from the inside• Post staff near the main entrance of the

building to allow entrance and exit with identification• Conduct classes and activities within the

building in a normal manner 9

LOCKDOWN(For use to protect building occupants from potential dangers in the building or from outside)

When the announcement is made: CODE RED• Students are to be cleared from the halls immediately and report to the

nearest available classroom• Assist those needing special assistance• Close and lock all doors and windows and do not leave for any reason• Stay away from all doors and windows and move students to interior

walls and sit on the floor• Shut off lights • BE QUIET!• Wait for further instructions• Complete emergency attendance sheet

SEVERE WEATHER SAFE AREA(For use in severe weather emergencies)

An announcement will be made informing staff and students of the emergency

• Students are to be cleared from the halls immediately and report to the nearest available classroom

• Assist those needing special assistance• Close and lock all doors and windows and do not leave for any reason• Stay away from all windows and move students to interior walls and

sit on the floor• Shut off lights • BE QUIET!• Wait for further instructions• Complete emergency attendance sheet

EARTHQUAKES

• Stay indoors• Take cover under heavy furniture, desks, tables or in

narrow halls and interior doorways• Be aware of falling objects • Stay away from windows• If outdoors, move away from the building, if possible• Stay away from utility poles and overhead wires• If you are in a bus, the driver should stop quickly and as

safely as possible in an open area away from overpasses and bridges
