REACHGLOBAL

ASIA COME JOIN US!

32

Thank youfor your interest in what God is doing in Asia through ReachGlobal to multiply transformational churches among all people!

The following descriptions provide current snapshots of the vision God has given to each of our ministry teams in Asia and a brief glimpse of how He is at work. Each team needs:

NEW STAFF – We are praying for more workers to join our ministry teams. As you read through each team description, you will discover some of our current opportunities for short-term and long-term staff. Is God leading you to serve him on one of our teams in Asia?

CHURCH PARTNERS – We are praying for more churches to partner with our ministry teams in a focused manner to accomplish the vision. Your church could be involved in multiple ways such as praying for the work in Asia, sending short-term teams, assisting with projects, and working alongside our staff and Asian partners. Is your church looking for a place to partner in Asia?

PRAYER WARRIORS – Use these ministry team descriptions as a tool to inform and impassion your prayers for what God is doing in and through ReachGlobal in Asia. Perhaps pray for one team per day. Is God asking you to pray for our ministry teams in Asia?

REACHGLOBAL ASIA MINISTRY TEAMS

TOKYO CITY TEAMOur long-term vision is to see God raise up numerous ministry teams that multiply healthy, transformational churches in central Tokyo. Through our ongoing focus on prayer, partnership development, recruitment and team health, we ask God to expand the fruit of these works. Our strategy is to develop small group ministries, focus on college and international students’ ministries, and develop a coffee house ministry that will serve the overall goal of church planting. We are looking to add people with gifts in evangelism and student ministries as well as coffee house workers and baristas. Contact Carl Lahr to learn more: [email protected].

CHINA CITY TEAM AOur mission is to infuse Kingdom principles by ministering holistically to multiply disciples and transformational churches. We do this through prayer and by partnering with local churches in the areas of university outreach, compassion (caring for orphans, disabled children, at-risk women, and migrant families), medical training (training local medical doctors to serve Christ locally and be sent out as medical missionaries), and church development. Our team has visa platforms that allow us to be in China. Come serve with us: university outreach, medical doctors, therapists (physical, occupational, and speech), special education, orphan care, and theological training. Contact Andy Krause to learn more: [email protected].

CHINA CITY TEAM BOur vision and ministry focus states: “We are a community of incarnational participants developing people into healthy disciple makers and church leaders to reproduce healthy churches to the ends of the earth.” We live out this vision by working alongside house church networks in our city and beyond through prayer, coaching leaders and modeling disciple making, being a catalyst and resource for church planting, assisting with a community center to help the church engage their community and plant churches, and providing informal and formal theological training and ministry skills training. Our team is growing, and we have many ministry opportunities: residential team leader, disciple makers, church planting coaches, English teachers, and native Chinese-speaking theological educators. MANILA CITY TEAMMetro-Manila, the national capital region of the Philippines, is the ninth most populous metropolitan area in all of Asia with 13 million people. As of July 2016, the population of the Philippines was estimated to be about 103 million, with 2.8% Evangelicals, 4.5% described as “other Christians,” 5% Muslims, and 85% Catholics. Our vision and focus is to strengthen and multiply transformational churches through discipleship, church planting, and soul care (coming alongside pastors and church leaders in their relationship with God and their spouses). We have many ministry opportunities: church planters, disciple makers, and shepherds/coaches. Contact Jose or Maria Cariaga to learn more: [email protected] or [email protected].

KOLKATA CITY TEAMKolkata needs to be experienced first-hand to understand her great needs—the sights, smells, sounds, and overwhelming density of humanity cannot be described! A mere 0.9% of her 18 million inhabitants identify as Christian. The ReachGlobal Kolkata team desires to see churches being planted in every district touching every stratum of society. Our plan is to build a coalition of partnering groups working to equip and mobilize the church and community to address issues such as poverty and human trafficking. Disciple making and church planting are key to this process since lasting community change happens only when individuals are transformed by the gospel. Our team has many ministry opportunities to serve and equip the church for church planting, disciple making, and community development. Contact Gus Peters to learn more: [email protected].

SE ASIA CITY TEAM – MUSLIM CONTEXTWe want to see a movement of transformational, disciple-making communities of faith multiplied among the unreached people groups in our region of SE Asia. We are committed to walking with Jesus as we invest in the lives of national believers by supporting church planters, strengthening the local church, and equipping lay believers to bring the grace and truth of Jesus to unreached people groups. Ministry opportunities include a pastor for our international fellowship and coaches to equip national church leaders. Contact Andy Krause to learn more: [email protected].

CENTRAL ASIA CITY TEAM – MUSLIM CONTEXTWe seek to reach Muslims by sharing the gospel with as many as possible in an effort to find “people of peace” interested in learning more about Jesus. Our desire is to partner with existing believers to help them start indigenous, reproducible churches among the people with whom they have influence. We persevere with faith that God is able to bring a great breakthrough at any moment; we are ready to serve Him and His kingdom in whatever way is best at that time. We have many ministry opportunities: church planters/disciple makers, teacher at an international school, short-term vocational trainers (small business entrepreneurs), short-term child-care team (VBS), agricultural specialist/agronomist, and agricultural specialist/engineer. Contact Carl Lahr to learn more: [email protected].

SE ASIA CITY TEAM – CREATIVE ACCESS CONTEXTOur vision and ministry focus is to come alongside national partners to reach unreached people groups. One method is using agricultural and small business development to gain access to the communities that are traditionally closed to outsiders. Ministry opportunities include: residential team leader, disciple makers, English teacher, sales and marketing consultants, production manager for nutrition bar manufacturing project, vocational school teacher, crop consultant, sales and marketing consultant for farm supply store, business manager to oversee retail and wholesale food store, eco-tourism manager for developing eco-tourism business on an organic farm, and BAM project consultants. Contact Charlie Dee to learn more: [email protected].

ServeAsia TEAMBased in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the ServeAsia team utilizes various approaches to resource and empower the Asia Division staff and national partners. Our team joins full-time, part-time, volunteer and contract workers to serve collaboratively, combining skills and experience in the areas of communication, event planning, prayer mobilization, recruiting, and finance. We have many ministry opportunities: communication coordinator, resource specialist for wives of pastors and church planters, story and content developer, photographer, and graphic artist. Contact Steve Shickley to learn more: [email protected].

NORTH ASIA – UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP FOCUSED TEAMThe overarching vision of the team is pioneer church planting through business and community development. The team has a current focus on partnership projects, both business and agriculture-related, with other like-minded groups working in the area. Ministry opportunities include: business manager, agriculture project manager, pioneer church planters, and tech person. Contact Andy Krause to learn more: [email protected].

THAILAND – LAHU PEOPLE GROUP FOCUSED TEAMReachGlobal partners with the Thai-Lahu Christian Church (TLCC), a growing SE Asian hill tribe denomination. The need for trained pastors prompted the building of the TLCC campus, home to their denominational office and Bi-Vocational Training Center (BVTC) near Chiang Mai. The vision is to equip Christ-like workers to serve and plant healthy, growing, and reproducing churches. We accomplish this goal through our personal example, teaching and counseling, and developing and empowering the TLCC to train up and send out effective workers. Our ministry areas are pastor/leadership development, church planting, the BVTC, and development of agriculture for sustainability. Staffing needs include a tribal church planting coach and an English teacher (TEFL-trained) for the BVTC. Contact Steve Shickley to learn more: [email protected].

ISHINOMAKI/ONAGAWA CITY TEAMOnagawa, a fishing town of over 10,000 people, had 80% of its infrastructure and 105 people washed away by the 2011 tsunami. In the midst of this devastation, ReachGlobal came seeking to provide relief work, heart care, and community development. Our vision statement reads: “Multiplying healthy churches by working with like-minded local partners who minister in unity for the purpose of transforming communities so that the body of Christ becomes a central part of the fabric of society.” Our team has many ministry opportunities: Japanese speakers to help with small group development for church planting, staff for Megumi Project (social enterprise that creates jobs, encourages personal development in the community, and shares God’s grace), staff at the Promenade (our center where we sell Megumi and local handmade products, have English classes and concerts, and build community connections), and English teachers. Contact Lorna or Andy Gilbert to learn more: [email protected] or [email protected].

SENDAI CITY TEAMSendai, a city of 1.1 million, is the largest city in the northeast area of Honshu Island. It experienced the 2011 Great Japan Earthquake but was saved from the tsunami and quickly recovered after the earthquake. Our purpose statement reads: “Our church, in thanks for Jesus’ love for us, exists to reach seekers to connect them with other Christians, to help them grow in their faith, to discover their ministry, and to thank God with their lives.” We reach seekers through English classes, friendship evangelism, and special events. We connect seekers to Christians through Sunday worship or Bible studies. We are looking for speakers of Japanese to fill two roles: church planting co-worker and youth worker. Contact Larry Mori to learn more: [email protected].

SE ASIA REGIONAL PARTNERSHIP TEAMWe work in partnership with nationals in Vietnam and Myanmar. In Vietnam, we work with church planters in two different areas among varied people groups. These nationals face many challenges: cultural resistance to the gospel, difficulty funding their ministries, the need to move their congregations frequently due to community pressures, and resistance to the idea of lay pastors and home meeting places. We desire to have staff based in Ho Chi Minh City to develop a broad consortium of denominations interested in church planting. We have two partners in Myanmar who work in church planting and pastoral education and also a child sponsorship program called GlobalFingerprints. Our vision and ministry focus is to come alongside ReachGlobal staff and national partners to assist them in getting the gospel to unreached people groups. We use consulting and development to help our staff and national partners become better business people so they can create jobs and develop opportunities to live out the gospel in their daily lives. SE ASIA – HMONG PEOPLE GROUP FOCUSED TEAM Three couples are part of our ministries to the Hmong. Living in Thailand, much of their work requires travel to other countries where large Hmong populations live. One couple works with evangelism and discipleship training using TEE courses. Two couples do discipleship and leadership development using T-Net curriculum. TEE and T-Net are tools to facilitate maturity of the Hmong church leaders and to see new, healthy churches established. The Hmong ministry team is also translating the AWANA children’s club materials into Hmong. Contact Mel Howell to learn more: [email protected].
