T E S T F O R BUILDING P R O D U C T S E X P O S E D TO T H E R M A L A T T A C K B Y A S I N G L E BURNING ITEM (OIF O R SBI ) (NF EN 13823)

A test apparatus is used, consisting ofa trolley, frame, burners, hood... A specimen, consisting of two vertical wings forming a right-angled comer, is exposed to the flame from a burner placed at the bottom of the corner formed by the two wings ("main burner"). The flame is obtained by combustion of propane gas injected through a sandbox so as to produce an output of (30.7 +/- 2.0) kW. The performance of the specimen is evaluated for a period of 20 minutes. The performance criteria are the following: heat release, smoke production, horizontal front flame spread and burning particles and droplets. A short period prior to ignition of the main burner is necessary to measure the heat output of the burner alone; this is calculated using a similar bumer placed at a distance from the specimen ("auxiliary burner"). Some measurements are obtained automatically, others result from visual observation. The exhaust duct is equipped with sensors to measure the heat, attenuation of the light beam, mole fractions 02 and C02, as well as a differential pressure caused by the gaseous effluent in the exhaust duct. These values are registered automatically and used to calculate the volume flow, the Rate of Heat Release Rate (RHR in English) and the Rate of Smoke Production (RSP in English). The horizontal front flame spread and the burning droplets or particles are subject to visual observation and are recorded on the record sheet. Complementary definitions: THR 600s: Total heat release from the specimen during the first 600s of exposure to the main burner flames. LFS edge: lateral flame spread over the long specimen wing to the external edge of the latter at a height between 500 and 1500mm during the first 1500 seconds TSP 600s: Total smoke production from the specimen during the first 600s of exposure to the main burner flames. FDP: level of release of Flaming Droplets/ Particles falling outside ofthe area ofthe burner FIGRA: Fire Growth Rate SMOGRA: Smoke Growth Rate

The assembly of the specimens is done in accordance with standard NF EN 13823, paragraph 5.2.2a) and 5.2.2e).

Specimens 1 to 3: REYNOBOND® 55 PE riveted system

Mounting: panels fixed with rivets on a framework in aluminium profiles then applicate on gypsum plasterboard. The riveted system means that the panel edges are free and that the low density polyethylene is apparent. Assembly with horizontal join at 200mm and vertical joint at 500mm.
