    &uring the ;DH two!wee( clinical experience# ; learned more than ; ever

    thought ; would% ; especiall' learned a great deal during this part o$ m' experience%

     5his lesson was uni@ue because m' teacher told me what she wanted me to do%

    "hile preparing $or m' clinical# ; assumed ; was going to able to teach a lesson on

    comprehension or vocabular'% ; was not able to teach a lesson that ; thought ; was

    going to be able to because o$ the timing o$ the ;DH two!wee( experience and what

    the students were alread' learning about in the class% 5he ;DH wee(s happened to

    $all right be$ore the students Spring Hrea( and the teacher did not want me

    teaching an'thing brand new to the students% 5his was a little $rustrating at 6rst#

    but ; learned how to be open!minded and Iexible when it comes to planning% ;t is

    important to ta(e what 'ou are given and to ma(e the most out o$ it% 5his applies to

    man' aspects o$ teaching and it is one o$ the greatest lessons ; too( awa' $rom this

    experience%

     5his was probabl' one o$ the hardest lessons $or me to plan and teach $or#

    but it ended up being probabl' m' $avorite lesson that ; taught% ;t was hard $or me

    to plan and teach because ; have never taught writing be$ore% ; was nervous and

    unsure o$ how to incorporate into the lesson plan model and to accommodate all o$

    m' students needs% ; learned that 'ou could plan ahead as much as 'ou deem

    necessar' but sometimes there is alwa's something that will happen% For example#

    when starting the read aloud o$ When I Grow Up on the Smartboard# it $roJe and

    too( a couple o$ minutes to 6x itsel$% &uring this time# ; improvised and as(ed

    students more @uestions% ; learned that it is extremel' important to have a bac(up

    plan in case technolog' $ails% , bac(up plan $or this lesson would be to actuall' have

    a hard cop' o$ the boo( and read it to students using the actual boo( instead o$ the

    Smartboard%

    ,nother thing ; li(ed about this lesson was that ; was able to teach it two

    times% ; taught it the 6rst time to the classroom o$ m' cooperating teacher and the

    second time ; taught it to the classroom next store% D' cooperating teacher shared

    m' idea with her colleague and she as(ed me to teach the lesson to her class as

    well% ; thought the 6rst lesson went well# but ; $ound some areas o$ improvement

    including more developed @uestions about the boo(# speci6c timing and directions

    o$ the assignment# and how to introduce the example to students% ; was able to

    reIect on m' 6rst lesson and improve it when ; taught it the second time% "hile

    teaching# ; $elt more com$ortable teaching the second lesson because ; was more

    $amiliar with what ; was doing and had clear expectations in m' mind o$ what ;

    wanted the students to gain $rom this lesson% 5his was a uni@ue opportunit' $or me

    and ; am so grate$ul that ; was given the chance to teach m' lesson twice% ;t

    allowed me to reIect deepl' on the 6rst lesson and ma(e improvements $or the

    second lesson% 5his is an important s(ill to develop as a teacher because it is critical

    that 'ou are alwa's improving 'our lessons to cater to the needs o$ 'our students% ;$ 

    'ou are not learning and growing as teacher# then 'ou will not be serving 'our

    students to the best o$ 'our abilit'%

    ; also was reaKrmed at how important classroom management was through

    teaching this lesson% ;t is important that students respect 'ou as well as 'ou

    respecting them% "hen 'ou respect a student and treat them li(e a real person#

    the' are more cooperative and willing to learn in the sa$e classroom environment

    that is provided% ; did not struggle with classroom management on m' 6rst lesson

    but ; struggled with it a little bit in m' second lesson% Some o$ the students were

    tal(ative and disruptive% 5his was a little $rustrating to me# but it was something ;

    had to patientl' wor( through% ; learned that not ever' aspect o$ ever' lesson is

    going to go as planned# but it is important to remain calm and teach to the best o$

    'our abilit'% ne thing that helped me in m' lesson was using strategies li(e turn

    and tal(# the stic(' notes# and the read aloud to (eep students engaged% ;$ ; had to

    teach these lessons again# ; would have a clear de6nition o$ what a career is and

    incorporate more vocabular' words into the lesson% ; would also tell students their

    directions be$ore the' go bac( to their seats so that the' are actuall' pa'ing

    attention% 5his was a mista(e ; made in the 6rst lesson b' letting students go to

    their des(s then giving them instructions% ;t is easier to tell students instructions

    while 'ou have their $ull attention% ,nother little thing ; would do would be to chec(

    $or understanding so that the students (now what is expected o$ them through this

    assignment%

    verall m' experience with this lesson and m' two!wee( ;DH period was

    amaJing% ; reall' enjo'ed wor(ing and growing with the students through these

    students% ;t was $un $or me to grade this assignment because ever' student had

    uni@ue answers% 5his assignment allowed students to be creative and express

    themselves# which ; trul' enjo'ed%
