Farm Safety Day This camp sponsored by Progressive Ag Foundation provides hands-on learn-ing and experiences regarding a variety of safety topics both on the farm and in our community.

Topics rotate each year ranging in: Basic First Aid, 911 Calls, Disability Aware-ness, Equipment Safety, Home Alone Safety, Bike Safety, Water Safety and more!

Each participant will receive a t-shirt and a goody bag with safety information and safety items. Limited to the first 100 participants. Parents are welcome to attend.

Date: Friday, June 1, 9 a.m.—3 p.m. Location: Washington Co Fairgrounds. Check-in at the basement of Dallmeyer Hall. Cost: $10 to Washington Co Extension Registration Deadline: June 1 Grade Completed: Kindergarten-3rd Food: Bring sack lunch with drink. Snacks provided. Special Needs for the day: Youth will be travelling to safety stations out-doors. Dress for the weather. Apply sunscreen.

Some general reminders for youth participating in day camps hosted by Washington County Extension:

Clover University Day Camp Booklets/Registration forms will be sent through the schools in April and filled on a first come, first served basis. Forms and camp details will also be available at www.extension.iastate.edu/washington.

Curriculum is delivered by Washington County Extension & Outreach staff with the assistance of 4-H volunteers.

Snack and beverage will be provided. Please make note on registration form of any food allergies. For camps that extend over the lunch hour, youth must bring their own sack lunch and beverage.

Space is limited! Minimum of 10 registrations is needed to hold camp. Maximum of 25 registrations accepted. You are registered only by completing the form and re-turning it to Washington County Extension with proper payment.

Listen to KCII radio, 106.1FM, for any weather-related cancellations or changes.

An email reminder will be sent regarding camp registration after the registration deadline with reminders of any special directions if an email is provided on the regis-tration form. That email will come from [email protected].

Many camp agendas include indoor and outdoor activities. Dress appropriately for outdoor play. Apply sunscreen.

No refunds after the June 1 registration deadline.

Scholarships available upon request on a first come, first served basis.

Youth are not required to be Clover Kid or 4-H members to participate in Extension Summer Day Camps.

Put a Lid on It: Designing Helmets STEM Camp When you bike, board, or play ball, you wear a helmet. Now, let’s learn how they work! Diagram the brain and use biomechanical engineering to design your own helmet for a crash-test dummy. Date Options/Locations:

Ramp up with Robotics STEM Camp Join us and learn how to build and program Lego NXT Robots. Find out how to use sensors and program your robot to meet a series of challenges. Compete with new friends and bots. Date: June 25– June 27, 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. Location: Basement of Dallmeyer Hall on the fairgrounds Cost: $70 to Washington County Extension Grade Completed: 4th-6th Food: Bring snack lunch with drink. Magician’s Laboratory Be a magician for the day and make wands, stir up potions, build screaming balloons, wear wizard hats, put on a magic show with worms, exploding soda, invisible ink and more! Date: June 11, 9 a.m.—3 p.m. Location: Marr Park Cost: $20 to Washington County Extension Grade Completed: K-1 Food: Bring snack lunch with drink. Snack provided.

Babysitting Basics Training Course

In preparation to be a better babysitter, come and learn about: The responsibilities of a babysitter What employers expect Caring for infants and young children Age-appropriate toys and activities Safety and how to handle emergencies Basic first aid and rescue breathing

Flight School STEM Camp

This day camp experience is Rocket Science! Learn about Newton’s Law, experi-ment with what is lighter than air, build hovercrafts and coptors, conduct egg drop and egg launch experiments all to help teach the mechanics of rocket flight and space travel. Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® 2018 Release and Consent Form

1) I give my permission for the child listed below to attend the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day®. I understand that one of the purposes of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® is to teach participants to stay safe around farm sites, farm equipment, and farm animals. During the Safety Day, safety barriers will be in place, safety rules will be en-forced, and participants will be closely supervised by Safety Day instructors and group leaders. However, I acknowledge that there is the possibility of accidents. I release the coordinators, instructors, volunteers, sponsors, the Progressive Agriculture Foundation, and the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® program from all claims, in the event of injury to my child, unless the injury is the result of gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of these parties.

2) First aid will be available at the Safety Day and medical and/or hospital care will be provided in case of serious illness or injury. I understand that if serious illness or injury occurs the emergency contact(s) listed below will be notified. If it is impossible to reach the emergency contact(s), I give permission for emergency treatment as recommended by the attending physician.

3) I give my permission for photographs, audio, and video to be taken of my child while engaged in Safety Day activities and for these images to be used to promote safe-ty in the media, social media, on websites, and in promotional materials.

4) I understand that my child might be asked to complete a written knowledge test be-fore and after the Safety Day to help evaluate the effectiveness of the Progressive Agri-culture Safety Day®

program. Participation is voluntary, and my child may choose not to participate. I give permission for my child to participate in these evaluations.
