The project was the Bassin de la Villette Rowing Club in Paris, France. The project was to develop a building based on a rowing club program. In addition there was to be a cafe/ restaurant and a viewing deck for visitors to the club. These two programs, in my eyes, needed to be interwoven but separate. Club activites excluded the public but should still be visually ac-cessible. Therefore, I developed a Pedestrian Bridge which acted as an entrance to public spaces, such as the cafe; private club areas, such as the locker rooms; and a transitional viewing space for all. The bridge took a life of its own based on how each structur-al member reacted to its unique position in relation to the building. Our studio final was competition style. I was one of 5 winners.

RARE Charitable Research Re-serve contains nearly 24 unique habitats and trees more than 230 years old. this unique site provides numerous scientists with research opportunities as well as classroom activities. The project was to include a research and storage station as well as temporary classroom for better scientific study. I strived to provide a transi-tional space across the bor-der of the meadow and into the Hogsback Forest without overly imposing on the site.

This project was to define what the modern library IS. internet and other technologies provide in-formation available at the click of a button fromy-our own home. so: What is the role of a modern library? The first half of the semester I created a flash program which found a new way to expe-rience the library. I called it a book river. Then I used this idea to design a library on a given site. My ideas were based on an open environment and ex-ploration.

LIVING MACHINE
The Growing Water Pavil-ion was to use a Living Machine to reclaim water from a Campus building. The main goal was to incor-porate the Living Machine into a building of our own design and return the wa-ter to an ecoboulevard which returned water to Lake Michigan. I decided to collect water from the Keating Hall, a sports facil-ity on campus. I chose to create a classsroom with ample access to the Living Machine to educate and use it as a research labratory. In addition, I included a bicycle rental shop, a study room and bleachers for the neighboring baseball field. Martin Felsen, proposed the ideas of ecoboulevards with UrbanLab studio.

This comprehensive project focused on concrete con-struction as well as a real client: Kristina Markoff, owner of Vosges Haut-Choc-olat. We were to incorporate a complex plan for a new chocolate factory for the company. My main highlights were an observation walk and a sensory wall. The walk enabled visitors to view the factory without disturb-ing the workers as well as the adjacent Chicago River. The sensory wall was a way for those visitors to experi-ence the unique ingredients Vosges incorporated into their product, such as: wasa-bi, bacon and violets.

HOUSE PROJECT: MAISON A BOR-DEAUX; REM KOOLHAAS
This componant model was a re-sult of my case study of THE MAI-SON A BORDEAUX. I had to utilize my model shop skills as well as knowledge of how rem Koolhaas structure was intertwined with the design. All major pieces came apart in order to give the viewer a better understanding of house this residence was created.
The model was originially at 1/16=1-0 scale.

THE FINAL PROJECT FIRST YEAR WAS TO CREATE A FULL SCALE MODEL WHICH USED THE PROPERTIES INHERENT OF A FOUND OBJECT TO EXPRESS A VERTICAL FORM. MY GROUP CHOSE the RECYCLABLE ALUMINUM BEVERAGE CAN. WE CREATED MULTIPLE STRINGS OF CANS WHICH WE STACKED TO CREATE A TOWER. EACH STRAND USED ONE FEWER CAN THAN THE STRAND BENEATH THUS CREATING A TAPERING SPIRAL.
