Vanitha Narayanan Managing Director, IBM India Private, Ltd.

Vanitha Narayanan is the Managing Director of IBM India Private Limited, and the Regional General Manager for India/ South Asia (ISA). Shivakumar, or Shiv as he is popularly known, is Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo India Holdings Pvt. Ltd. Before Pepsico, Shiv was with Nokia for eight years, running India and then the Emerging Markets operations.

Shiv is a Marketer and CEO. He has run over 34 brands in his career across Unilever, Philips and Nokia. Shiv is a growth manager, having grown every brand and geography he has managed through Innovation, new business models and ecosystem partnerships. Shiv is a good coach and invests time and energy in growing people.

Padmini Somani Founder and Director, Salaam Bombay Foundation

Padmini Somani has been working in the field of health with a focus on tobacco control for the last 20 years. She is the Founder- Director of Salaam Bombay Foundation, an NGO, with India’s largest preventive school based programme on tobacco, with a focus on children from at risk homes. Padmini also actively spearheads the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation that supports several causes in the area of health, especially cancer control, education and employment generation. She is the co-founder of Healis-Sekhsaria Institute of Public Health and is also on the board of the Prince Aly Khan Hospital, Ambuja Cement Foundation, Ambuja Education Initiative, the Everest Foundation and the Indian Institute for Craft Design (IICD). She has served on several committees of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra.

Supriya Sule is a member of Parliament of India of the Lok Sabha (House of People). Some of her development initiatives include: a state wide campaign against female foeticide, Maharashtra State Youth Policy formulation and implementation, a network for support, tanning, and empowerment of women self help groups, advocacy for women’s safety, quality education for all, rights of people with disability, dignity and rights of senior citizens, and sustainable development and conservation of environment. Shekhar BajajChairman & Managing Director, Bajaj Electricals Limited

Mr. Shekhar Bajaj is the Chairman and Managing Director of Bajaj Electricals Limited (BEL). He has been the past President of ASSOCHAM, IMC, ELCOMA (Electric Lamp & Components Manufacturers Association), CFBP (Council for Fair Business Practices) and IFMA (Indian Fan Manufacturers Association). He is on the board of Bajaj Auto Ltd and a number of other companies.

A B.Sc.(Hons) degree in Mathematics from Pune University (1968), followed by an M.B.A. degree from New York University (1974), he started off in Bajaj Sevashram after graduation, and joined Bajaj Electricals Ltd as Chief Executive in 1980. Thereafter in 1984, he took over as Managing Director and became the Chairman& Managing Director in 1994.

Bajaj Electricals Limited with a turnover of over Rs. 4200 crores (FY 2014-1 5) has six strategic business units - Engineering and Projects (EPC), Appliances, Fans, Luminaires, Lighting and Morphy Richards. Bajaj Electricals Ltd is well established in a wide range of products in small domestic appliances like mixers, irons, water heaters, new age products like induction cookers as well as the hi-tech LED range of lighting, lamps, tube lights etc. The company is also in the business of ceiling fans as well as table, pedestal and wall fans. The EPC division of the company caters to turnkey engineering services besides being into Transmission LineTowers manufacturing and Rural Electrification.

It has successful tie ups with international companies like Disano of Italy & CREE Lighting of USA (for Luminaires); Delta Controls of Canada (for Building Management Systems) and Securiton of Switzerland (for Security Systems), Morphy Richards of UK (for Appliances), Disney of USA & Midea of China (for Fans).

Under his stewardship BEL is moving to become socially responsible and also environmentally sustainable company by undertaking initiatives such as changing thermocol packaging to biodegradable material, encouraging energy efficient products and offsetting carbon footprint through tree plantation initiatives. Each employee too is given an incentive to participate in CSR activities and appreciated for her/his efforts. BEL launched Project Disha to implement vocational skills programs for youth. Special skill sets such as repair technicians,masonry and electrical works have been identified.

Dr. Pankaj ChaturvediTata Memorial Hospital

Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi MBBS,MS,FAIS,FICS,FACS,MNAMS is Professor and Head and Neck cancer Surgeon at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Dr Chaturvedi did his medical schooling and post graduation in General Surgery at Banaras Hindu University. He was adjudged the best Intern and the best post graduate during his tenure in Banaras Hindu University. Later, he decided to work in field of surgical oncology and received his formal training at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. He has been invited as visiting faculty in 22 institutions in 18 countries. He is member of several prestigious national and international organizations and he is reviewer of several leading journals and he is the editor of the Textbook of Head and Neck Surgery. He is the Assistant Editor of the International Journal of Head and Neck surgery. He has authored 6 book chapters and more than 100 papers in international peer reviewed journals.

He is Principal investigator of several clinical trials and his main area of interest is early detection of oral cancer. He is the recipient of the Robert Maxwell Byers award of the American Head and Neck society in year 2010. He was nominated as Council Member of the prestigious

He is the founder and treasurer of the Head Neck Cooperative Oncology Group. Dr Chaturvedi has tremendous interest in Public Health issue especially related to Tobacco control. He was the coordinator of the Smoke free Mumbai – www.smokefreemumbai.org campaign. He started the famous Voice of Tobacco Victims Campaign (www.vovindia.org ) which has allowed the cancer victims to voice their opinion on the issue of tobacco control. This campaign was instrumental in ban on Gutka all over India and also increase in Tobacco Taxes. He received WHO Director General’s award in 2010 for this campaign. He represented India as Global Cancer Ambassador to New York to lobby with UN representatives for the special UN summit on Non Communicable diseases. He was awarded Outstanding Young Indian award for his public health initiatives. He was selected as a speaker on behalf of the Civil Society in UN Summit on Non Communicable diseases, 2011 in New York. He is also the recipient of the Judy Wilkenfield Award for excellence in Tobacco Control by Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, Washington, USA. Recently he was conferred British Medical Journal award popularly known as Oscar of Medicine.

Dr. Prakash C. Gupta is Director – Research of Healis – Sekhsaria Institute for Public Health, Navi Mumbai, Visiting Scientist at the Harvard (now T.C.Chan) School of Public Health and Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina, USA. He is President of the Action Council against Tobacco – India. Until July 31, 2004, he was with the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. He has published hundreds of research papers in international scientific journals on cancer and tobacco epidemiology. He has a Doctor of Science degree in Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins University, U.S.A., and a Master of Science in Statistics from the Bombay University. He was a Takemi Fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, U.S.A. and a Visiting Scientist at the International Agency for Research on Cancer, France. His current ongoing research collaboration include Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. He has received several awards including Luther Terry Award from the American Cancer Society and Tobacco Free World Award from the World Health Organisation, Geneva.

Sundeep KapilaCo-Founder, Swasth India

Sundeep completed his B. Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay in 2001. While at IIT, he worked with a campus-based startup and subsequently with a Swedish company to develop a technology product which has been spun off as a separate company. Sundeep joined the India practice of McKinsey & Company in 2001 and worked with them for 6.5 years, specializing in the Healthcare and Development sectors. Sundeep left McKinsey in Jan ’08 to pursue his passion in the development sector. Dr. Nachiket MorBoard Chair, SughaVazhu Health

Dr. Nachiket Mor has qualified in business management from the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad and obtained a doctorate in finance from the University of Pennsylvania. He is Board Chair of CARE India and a member of the Boards of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), CRISIL, Institute for Financial Management and Research, CIPLA, and IKP Trust. He is Chair of RBI’s Advisory Committee for the Licensing of Payment Banks; and a member of the Government of India’s Task force on Primary Healthcare Rollout, the Health Commission for the State of Himachal Pradesh, and the Task Force on Global Health at the Institute of Medicine in Washington DC. Poonam MuttrejaExecutive Director, Population Foundation of India

Poonam Muttreja is the Executive Director of the Population Foundation of India (PFI) - a New Delhi-based NGO established in 1970 to promote population stabilization in India and global thinking on population and human development. She also serves as a member of the FP2020 Reference Group – a global initiative to develop a new global architecture for increasing access to voluntary family planning services.

Poonam has served on several government committees including the National Commission on Population chaired by the Prime Minister of India, the Advisory Group for Community Action set up by India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Program Advisory Committee of the National Population Stabilization Fund. Prior to joining PFI in 2010, Poonam served, for close to 17 years, as the Country Director of MacArthur Foundation in India. In the earlier stages of her career, she was instrumental in setting up of Ashoka Foundation, India (as its Indian Founder Director), Society for Rural, Urban and tribal initiatives (SRUTI) and DASTKAR – both based in New Delhi. Poonam studied psychology and mass communications in Delhi University and public administration at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. She has taught courses on development from a grassroots perspective in Amherst College and Earlham College in the United States. She lives in New Delhi.

Dr. K Srinath ReddyPresident, Public Health Foundation of India

Prof. K. Srinath Reddy is presently President, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and formerly headed the Department of Cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was appointed as the First Bernard Lown Visiting Professor of Cardiovascular Health at the Harvard School of Public Health in 2009. He is also an Adjunct Professor of the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University and Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. PHFI is engaged in capacity building in Public Health in India through education, training, research, policy development, health communication and advocacy.

Widely regarded as a leader of preventive cardiology at national and international levels, Prof. Reddy has been a researcher, teacher, policy enabler, advocate and activist who has worked to promote cardiovascular health, tobacco control, chronic disease prevention and healthy living across the lifespan. He edited the National Medical Journal of India for 10 years and is on editorial board of several international and national journals. He has more than 400 scientific publications in international and Indian peer reviewed-journals.

He has served on many WHO expert panels and is presently the President of the World Heart Federation (2013-14). He also chairs the Core Advisory Group on Health and Human Rights for the National Human Rights Commission of India and is a member of the National Science and Engineering Research Board of Government of India. He recently chaired the High Level Expert Group on Universal Health Coverage, set up by the Planning Commission of India. He has also served as the President, of the National Board of Examinations which deals with post-graduate medical education in India.

Prof. Reddy is a member of the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (ww.unsdsn.org), established to assist the United Nations in developing the post-2015 goals for sustainable development. He chairs the Thematic Group on Health in the SDSN.

Padmini Somani Founder and Director, Salaam Bombay Foundation

Padmini Somani has been working in the field of health with a focus on tobacco control for the last 20 years. She is the Founder- Director of Salaam Bombay Foundation, an NGO, with India’s largest preventive school based programme on tobacco, with a focus on children from at risk homes. Padmini also actively spearheads the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation that supports several causes in the area of health, especially cancer control, education and employment generation. She is the co-founder of Healis-Sekhsaria Institute of Public Health and is also on the board of the Prince Aly Khan Hospital, Ambuja Cement Foundation, Ambuja Education Initiative, the Everest Foundation and the Indian Institute for Craft Design (IICD). She has served on several committees of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra.

Vanessa D’SouzaChief Executive Officer, Society for Nutrition, Education & Health Action

Vanessa D’Souza is CEO of SNEHA (Society for Nutrition Education and Health Action) since March 2013, after volunteering with SNEHA for the previous two years.

Prior to that she worked with Citibank India in various positions, her last role being, Director, Citigroup Private Bank. During her tenure with Citibank she worked across various divisions including Non-Resident Indian Business, Corporate Bank, Project Re-engineering and eventually with the Private Bank. She won the coveted Citicorp Chairman’s Service Excellence Award in 1989 for exemplary performance.

She has completed her BA in Economics honors and MBA with a specialization in Marketing Management. She also did a Management Executive Development Program at Stanford University, sponsored by Citibank.

Somak GhoshCo-Founder, Contrarian Capital India Partners2011 AL Fellow

Somak Ghosh has been one of 3 professional Co-Founders of Yes Bank. As of fiscal 2011, Somak was Group President – Corporate Finance and Development Banking, responsible for 70% of the Bank’s assets (USD 12bn) and over 50% of the Bank’s profits (USD 0.2bn). As a Co-Founder, he has been a key member of the Bank’s Executive Management, the Management Credit Committee and the Asset Liability Committee for over 8 yrs and emerged as an exceptional leader in building start-up businesses and taking them to scale.

Being part of the founding team, Somak has extensive operating experience in creating and implementing strategies across early stage/ start-up businesses, building and managing large teams, initiating and growing external relationships and finding bootstrapping solutions necessary at an early stage of an organization. In his role at Yes Bank, while building the highly profitable Corporate Finance practice, Somak simultaneously founded the Development Banking vertical, with application of mainstream corporate finance structures for delivering financial services to previously underserved populations.

His path-breaking commercial banking services to low-income populations for over 1 mn families annually (~ 5 mn people) were recognized in a HBS 2010 case study and subsequently attended the Advanced Leadership Initiative at Harvard in 2011. Somak decided to move on from Yes Bank in September 2012 to pursue his professional and personal passion of Contrarian Capitalism for Mainstreaming Change –moving the investment thesis of investing in BoP businesses from niche to mainstream.

Neera NundyPartner & Co-Founder, Dasra

Neera plays a leading role in bringing managerial skills, knowledge and critical analysis to Dasra. Most recently, she led the launch of the Dasra Social Impact Leadership Program with Harvard Business School, the first-of-its-kind executive education program for sector leaders in India. Neera has supported the analysis of over 22 Dasra sector reports in the education, health and livelihoods which has enabled over $42 million of funding for hundreds of social enterprises. She has closely worked with Dasra’s successful portfolio organizations such as Educate Girls, SNEHA, Sarathi and Aangan to refine their strategies and accelerate their growth by 20 - 30x.

Dr. Devi ShettyChairman, Narayana Health

Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty is the Chairman of the Narayana Group of Hospitals. Dr. Shetty and his team have a mission to make healthcare affordable to the masses living in third world countries.

Dr. Shetty was the first heart surgeon in India to perform heart surgeries on newborn babies, using a microchip camera to close holes in the heart. He has also pioneered operations for complex problems of the heart, such as pulmonary endarterectomy, Redo Heart surgery, valve repairs in newborn babies and aortic aneurysm surgeries.

Dr. Shetty and his team have performed thousands of major heart surgeries, out of which 40% of the operations were on children, many of them newborn babies.

Dr. Shetty manages the world’s largest Telemedicine Programme through Indian Space Research

Ratan TataChairman Emeritus, Tata Sons

Ratan N Tata was the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group, from 1991 till his retirement on December 28, 2012. He was also chairman of the major Tata companies, including Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Global Beverages, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels and Tata Teleservices. During his tenure, the group’s revenues grew manifold, totalling over $100 billion in 2011-12.

Mr Tata is also associated with various organisations in India and overseas. He is the chairman of two of the largest private-sector-promoted philanthropic trusts in India. He is a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. He is the president of the Court of the Indian Institute of Science and chairman of the Council of Management of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. He also serves on the board of trustees of Cornell University and the University of Southern California. Mr Tata serves on the board of directors of Alcoa, and is also on the international advisory boards of Mitsubishi Corporation, JP Morgan Chase, Rolls-Royce, Temasek Holdings and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Mr Tata received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell in 1962. He worked briefly with Jones and Emmons in Los Angeles before returning to India in late 1962. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1975.

The Government of India honoured Mr Tata with its second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2008. He has also received honorary doctorates from several universities in India and overseas.
