OTES AND SIDNEY CITY SCHOOLS

2010-2011 -- Evaluation Team (ET) formed from RttT Scope of Work •  Changes in membership & roles

TIMELINE OF CHANGE

2011-2012 Evaluation team met to determine improvements needed in the current evaluation process per negotiated language -- Looked at defining and outlining a process for walk-throughs -- Brought in marketing consultants from companies who shared walk-through programs -- Developed and implemented a walk-through tool to be used from iPads.

TIMELINE OF CHANGE

2012-2013 --Evaluation team received admin. feedback regarding walk-through tool and made changes for another trial --Teachers sent to OTES training and SLO training to understand and share the process prior to rollout -- Drafted evaluation forms reflecting the state’s documents to make part of MOU --- Analyzed and NEOLA language, contract language, and OTES to draft new language for LEA vote

TIMELINE OF CHANGE

2013-2014 -- OTES rolled out to district -- SLOs rolled out to district -- Admin. trained in use of new documents and OTES begins

TIMELINE OF CHANGE

Strengths •  Evaluation Team – Members represent LEA and

Administration •  Superintendent Support •  Freedom to make decisions as a team •  Time afforded to collaborate as a team •  Teacher volunteers sent through OTES training, including

SLO training •  Acknowledgment that staff needs time for new evaluation

system •  Access to OTES forms online •  SLO Committee calibration training and time to approve

HINDSIGHT…YES, IT IS 20/20

Pitfalls •  Edit of Teacher Performance post-conference questions •  Need to conduct more training over the summer for Admin. for new process •  Need to train all admin. on SLOs to be resource and trainer/co-trainer for

staff •  Individualized building training for teachers regarding SLOs •  More defined process for SLO committee for approvals, returns, timeline of

SLO submissions for 9 week, semester, and year courses, forms for committees’ use

•  Assessment literacy for teachers and admin. prior to SLO roll-out •  SLO assessment submission and approval •  Pre-established dates for Evaluation team to meet for 2013-2014 year to

evaluate •  Way for Evaluation team to solicit feedback from admin. & teachers, an online

forum for each group to post questions to the team and subsequently provide answers

Preservation: •  Evaluation Team & Two-way communication with Admin. •  SLO Committees & Members •  Evaluation forms force dialogue between admin. and teachers •  Access to all Evaluation forms Improvement: •  SLO process (e.g. assessments, SLO template, student data,

data collection) for 2014-2015 (optional summer PD for SLOs for teachers and admin., posted examples online)

•  Evaluation training for admin. •  Communication of feedback for OTES process
