The Philippine islands, discovered by Magellanin 1521, were conquered by Spain in 1565.

The islands, named for king Philip II of Spain, were ceded to USA IN 1898.

Became completely independent in 1946.

National Fruit. This very delicious fruit has very smooth skin. It is green when unripe and yellow when ripe.

National Flower. Its petals are fragrant and milky-white. The flower symbolises purity.

National costumes. The barong- Tagalog is worn by men ehile the baro’t saya is worn by women during important occasions.

National fish. The milkfish has white sparkling scales; its flesh has a deliciously exquisite taste.

National tree. This tree has qualities like

that of the Filipinos: sturdy, upright, firm

and durable.

National bird. The Philippine eagle is a large bird of prey, strong and fearless. It represents the Philippines as a solid and stable nation.

Moriones Mask – the Morion Festival is a Lenten ritual that is colorful as it is unique. It is celebrated every Holy week in Marinduque.
