Max Rose, Sophomore
If you prefer to be just another face on a huge campus, this is not the college for
you. Here you will enjoy small classes, dedicated professors and exceptional
facilities. Students and instructors get to know each other in a meaningful way
and everyone learns and grows through these special relationships.
14
With a total school enrollment of fewer than 200 students,
you'll be in studio classes with 12 to 15 fellow artists.
This means you will benefit from real one-on-one guidance
from the faculty.
15
Facilities designed

THE CAMPUS
PrattMWP’s campus
includes 15 buildings on 11
acres of beautifully landscaped
grounds in Utica, N.Y. The
Studio Building, featuring
seven art studios, a gallery
and a student lounge, opened
in 1998.
Studios for ceramics and
sculpture are in spacious,
renovated carriage houses.
The Student Center, a popular
campus gathering place,
features a recreation room,

and health center.
The Academic and Library
Center houses classrooms,
a modern computer lab,
a student gallery, and
extensive library holdings,
including 24,000 books, 28,000
slides, 500 videotapes and
6,000 music recordings.
40
Three residence halls in remodeled buildings, including a restored
Victorian-era hotel, offer apartment-style dormitory living that is quite lux-
urious. Each completely furnished suite includes a refrigerator, microwave
oven, window treatments, Internet access, cable television hookup and
local telephone service.
41
A remarkable Arts Institute. PrattMWP is part of
an internationally renowned arts institute that
includes the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts
Institute Museum of Art with its highly acclaimed
collection of American, European and Asian works
of art and a program of special loan exhibitions.
The Museum’s decorative arts department,
Fountain Elms, is an 1850 Italianate mansion with
an extraordinary collection of 19th century silver-
ware, furniture, ceramics and furnishings.
A renowned Museum of Art. As a student you
will have the rare opportunity to show your
artwork in the Museum of Art, alongside the
Museum’s phenomenal collection, during the
Annual Student Exhibition. You will see your
drawings, paintings or sculptures just a few steps
away from masterpieces by Jackson Pollock,
Thomas Cole, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso,
Georgia O’Keeffe, Wassily Kandinsky and scores
of other legendary artists.
A superb Performing Arts program. You will also
enjoy the Institute’s Performing Arts Division,
which presents more than 100 events each year,
bringing world-class performers to the campus
or to the nearby historic Stanley Theater. Events
feature legendary acts in dance, jazz and classical
music, including the Moscow Ballet, Wynton
Marsalis, Bela Fleck and many others. In addition,
a weekly film series offers the finest in first-run
independent and alternative films.
The Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute
The School of Art is enhanced by a
Museum of Art and a Performing Arts Division—
a winning combination.
42
The Museum of Art, a centerpiece of the campus,
was designed by award-winning architect
Philip Johnson. The Museum is considered by many to
be the finest in the state outside of New York City.

Shiloh Gray, a 2005 graduate of PrattMWP,
placed first in a prestigious international design
competition sponsored by Print magazine. Despite
competing against primarily seniors, Shiloh’s
design was selected from a field that included
entrants from colleges throughout the world.
Shiloh was just a sophomore when his winning
design was chosen to be displayed on the cover of
Print magazine in its March/April 2006 edition.
Shiloh’s classmate, Samuel J. Jackson, received
honorable mention for his design.
Becky Powell, a 2002 graduate of PrattMWP,
was the “Outstanding Graduate” of Pratt Institute,
Brooklyn, New York in 2004. Becky credits
PrattMWP and its faculty for much of her success.
The quality of instruction and individual attention
resulted in a strong body of work that made her
transition to the Brooklyn campus an easy one.
Since then, Becky has earned her Master of
Science degree in Education at University of
Pennsylvania.
Maggie Henry and Joshua Wahila, both
2007 graduates of PrattMWP, were among four
students nationwide selected to participate in the
United States Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program.
Students and professional artists were asked to
submit drawings of coins depicting the founding
of Jamestown. Both sophomore Communications
Design students when they entered their designs,
were then invited to participate in an exclusive
three-week summer internship at the Mint in
Philadelphia with master engraver John Merconti.
They were also given a one-year contract with
the Mint and each year will be invited to submit
coin designs.
Choose from three majors
Fine Arts
(drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics,
jewelry/metal arts, printmaking),
Communications Design
(advertising art direction,
graphic design, illustration),
Art and Design Education
(preparation for teaching art)
and begin working toward a bachelor of
fine arts degree.
Following the two years at PrattMWP,
you relocate to the Pratt campus
in Brooklyn or transfer to any other
