Dear Service Manager, This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. NHTSA Campaign I.D. Number: 15V152 Transport Canada Safety Recall I.D. Number: 2015-119 Situation: Based on the constant, ongoing product quality tests that Ducati performs, a potential issue with the throttle control of the models mentioned above has been identified. It is possible that the tubing inside the sheath of the throttle opening Bowden cable could disengage and completely displace from its seat, becoming stuck inside the throttle control housing, obstructing the throttle movement during the closing phase. To address this issue, the throttle control front half-housing has been redesigned to prevent said tubing from dislodging completely. To update the motorcycles produced so far, it will be necessary to replace the front half of the throttle control housing. During this intervention, it is very important to visually check the conditions of the opening Bowden cable and its sheath as explained below. Only in cases where the specified non-conformities are found during the visual inspection, is replacement of both the front half-housing and the opening throttle cable assembly mandated.

Criteria for application of the technical solution on circulating motorcycles: For the designated frame numbers in the attached VIN list the motorcycles must be updated.

Customer notification: Ducati North America, Inc. will notify all known owners of affected vehicles directly by First Class mail. A sample copy of the owner notification letter is enclosed for your information. Vehicle allocation: See attached Affected VIN List

Limitation on sale or lease of certain vehicles: Section 154(d) of National traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1996 mandates that dealers correct, prior to sale or lease, any vehicle which contains a defect relating to motor vehicle safety. It is therefore mandatory that any vehicle in your inventory affected by this recall be corrected prior to sale or lease. Auto-ship replacement part: Some dealers will have received an auto-shipment of updated parts to address motorcycles in their inventories. All dealers will need to order the parts required to update all units already in service.

Service Solution: Following are the steps necessary for the update:

a) Removal of the old throttle control front half-housing;

b) Inspection of the opening Bowden cable condition;

c) Inspection of the Bowden cable sheath and the internal tube condition;

d) Installation of the new throttle control front half-housing.

1) Remove the 2 M6x20 screws (B) that retain the OLD throttle control front half-housing (C) and remove the half-housing.

2) Separate the opening cable guide (D) from the closing cable guide (E).

b) Inspection of the opening Bowden cable condition

Warranty time allowance and reimbursement procedure:

Update procedure reimbursement will be issued through the standard warranty claim procedure via the section Recall Campaigns or Vehicle History of the DCS: the Warranty Claim is not pre-filled. The above-described procedure has been coded as follows: CR110. In order to fill in the warranty claim, enter the correct part number of the spare throttle control front half-housing (as indicated in the table of paragraph Spare Parts - Part no. 65440242A or Part no. 65440272A).

Please be reminded that all motorcycles in your inventory, and to be delivered to Customers, must be updated during pre-delivery operations, and ALWAYS before delivery to the final Customer. For retailed units, the update must be performed upon the motorcycles’ arrival for service or repairs. Campaign authorization: Ducati North America, Inc. will mail a notification letter to all known owners. If a customer does not present this notification letter, it is important that you confirm the eligibility for recall status on the DCS before you commence work. Reimbursement requests for duplicate recall campaign repairs will not be accepted. Dealer obligation: This program is designed to complete the necessary repairs and to achieve owner satisfaction. Therefore, we ask you to take prompt and courteous action in accordance with these directives.

This could result in the rider being unable to close the throttle properly. The possible consequence of this safety-related defect is potential damage to the motorcycle, increased risk of crash, and potential hazard to the rider in the event of an obstructed throttle.

What will Ducati do? To correct this condition, your authorized Ducati dealer will replace the upper throttle cover with a newly designed equivalent. The Dealer will perform this repair at no cost to you for parts and labor. We request that you contact your authorized Ducati dealer and schedule an appointment, so that the required service can be performed without delay.
