Grade 3

Scoring Rubric

To earn full credit (4 points), a student places

“plant” in the “Takes a break from making food” box (1 point)

AND

“bear” in the “Sleeps in a cave” box (1 point)

AND

“frog” in the “Buries itself in mud” box (1 point)

AND

“cricket” in the “Freezes its body” box (1 point).

To earn partial credit (1–3 points), a student places

less than four living things correctly, receiving one point for each correct placement.

Grade 4

Scoring Rubric

To earn full credit (2 points), a student

places the five ingredients that belong in the large bowl (butter, two eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, ¾ cup sugar, ¾ cup brown sugar) (1 point)

AND

places the three ingredients that belong in the small bowl (flour, salt, and baking soda) (1 point).

To earn partial credit (1 point), a student answers one part correctly.

AND

selects “‘She is my girlfriend ...’” as detail (1 point).

To earn partial credit (1 point), a student

places “Friendship means sticking up for each other” in Box A (1 point) without the correct supporting detail.

NOTE: Credit is not given for only identifying the correct supporting detail.

places Midori in Character box, and selects “pretty” OR “sad” under “Character Trait” (1 point)

AND

If “pretty” is selected under “Character Trait,” then “It was said that on the day they were born, Tsuki-yumi, lovely goddess of the moon, had kissed them on the brow” is selected under “Sentence” (1 point) OR If “sad” is selected under “Character Trait,” then “As they tried to comfort one another and dry their tears, the moon rose.” is selected under “Sentence” (1 point).

It took experts from Iran and Syria to complete the project (1 point)

It required materials and workers brought from many parts of Asia (1 point)

It is still standing today (1 point).
