Important note: 

Please ensure that power is not interrupted during the flashing process. 

Flashing procedures: 

1. System flash 

‐ Copy the install.img file to the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive 

‐ Plug in to an available USB host port 

‐ Enter Setup > Misc and then select USB upgrade 

‐ Press OK when the system prompted to update 

 

2. Safe‐mode flash 

‐ Copy the install.img file to the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive 

‐ Plug in to an available USB host port 

‐ Switch on the main power and wait till you see the red standby light on the player 

‐ Press and hold on to the power button on the front panel 

‐ Release the power button when the update starts flashing on your screen

What’s new in this release 

1. Fixed unable to passthrough core DTS audio from a DTS‐HD MA/HR audio package, when connected 

to an amplifier via SPDIF optical connection, with audio settings set to SPDIF RAW. 

 

2. Fixed when playing a MP3 with an embedded cover art, the cover art is being displayed correctly and 

not overlaid on the default logo in the preview window. 

 

3. Fixed when playing a video with more than one IDX/SUB subtitle, it does not show the entire subtitle 

selection when the subtitle menu is called out. 

 

4. Fixed when making a password modification via SETUP > MISC > PASSWORD, the new password does 

not seem to take effect. 

 

5. Fixed when doing a safe‐mode flashing operation, the system does not enter into the initial setup 

page. 

 

6. Fixed when formatting the initial HDD using the EXT3 format, the HDD capacity and available disk 

space is not displayed on the home screen. 

 

7. Fixed when changing the Scan storage option from ‘off’ to ‘on’, the scanning will start immediately 

instead of doing so on the next boot. 

 

8. Fixed a random problem of no display during boot up caused by a glitch in the previous firmware.

What’s new in this release 

1. Fixed slow playback when using certain brand/model of external USB storage disk drive, especially for 

some models of Seagate external USB storage disk drive. 

 

2. Removed YouTubeXL application due to announced discontinued of service after June 9th, 2013. 

 

3. Added new YouTube application as a replacement to YouTubeXL application. With the new 

application you can now use a smartphone or tablet with the latest YouTube app installed to pair and 

play directly on the Playon!HD3.

What’s new in this release 

1. Fixed system freeze when entering a folder with a long filename. 

 

2. Fixed when adding a shared network file/folder to Shortcuts, a message box "Do you want to save 

password?" will appear regardless of the file/folder being password protected or not. 

 

3. Fixed unable to enter a shared network file/folder from the Shortcuts menu due to a false error 

prompting for network login. 

 

4. Fixed when trying to enter a shared network folder with password protection, an additional space is 

hidden at the start of the username input entry, causing an invalid login even when the username is 

entered correctly. 

 

5. Fixed password not working in areas that requires input, such as format, edit protection and 

password modifications. 

 

6. Fixed out of position volume control UI in YouTubeXL. 

 

7. Fixed UI glitch for ‘Repeat title’ selection when you press the repeat button while playing a media file. 

 

8. Added Connection Type in Setup > Network menu, users can now switch between using Wired or 

Wireless LAN instead of having both active at the same time.

What’s new in this release 

1. Fixed when moving the focus from Recently Added Music and Recently Added Movies back up to the 

Setup menu, the list will be hidden unless you move the focus back again. 

 

2. Fixed when the system menu language is selected as Traditional Chinese, doing a subtitle search 

during video playback will cause a system freeze or reboot. 

 

3. Fixed when viewing files/folders in thumbnail layout, random images are not displayed. 

 

4. Fixed during video playback, pressing the Info button now shows you the title of the video that is 

playing. 

 

5. Fixed image glitch on the headings of Movies/Music/Photos/Files Manager menu during navigation 

of files/folders. 

 

6. Shoutcast Radio UI background now correctly uses the GUI2.0 image.

What’s new in this release 

1. Added new Autoplay function which can be found under Setup > Misc > Autoplay 

 

Description: 

This selection allows you to automatically play upon boot up, your movies, music or photos files that 

are in the “autoplay” folder of your internal HDD or USB flash drives. 

 

Steps: 

Create a folder and name it “autoplay” (without the quotation marks) and copy your media file types 

you wish to automatically play. If you have mixture of media types in the same folder, please select 

the type that you wish to autoplay in the setup menu. 

 

*Please take note that mixed media playing is not supported. 

 

2. Added Service Statement when entering Internet Media for the first time. 

 

3. Added Wi‐Fi signal strength indication when searching for available SSID to connect. 

 

4. Transmission application inside Internet Media menu now correctly shows the progress of your 

torrent tasks that are started on the player. 

 

5. New UI and icons for Transmission page. 

 

6. Streams inside Audio Podcast and Video Podcasts will now start to automatically play after buffering 

instead of idling in paused state. 

 

7. Fixed unable to enter into Advance Configuration of Wi‐Fi connection with the play button. This 

function is now working with the red button. 

 

8. Fixed unable to start playing full screen, a BD‐ISO format video (with supported menu) when entering 

via Movies menu. 

 

9. Fixed the error of not prompting for password when accessing a locked file or folder from the 

Shortcuts menu. 

 

10. Fixed image glitch during file operation process (copy/move/delete). 

 

11. Fixed when Setup > System > Scan storage is selected as Auto scan off, doing a Clear History 

operation will cause the unit to freeze and reboot. 

 

12. Fixed when selecting Audio Settings while playing an audio/video file, the options available are not 

the same as when accessing thru the Setup > Audio menu. This menu window UI has also been 

changed correctly. 

 

13. Fixed reporting of incorrect firmware version during flashing compared to the actual firmware version. 

 

14. Removed invalid/unsupported links in RSS Feeds.
