The Readorium Personalized Learning Experience

Each and every time students log onto Readorium they

embark on a customized science literacy journey.

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• A video message from the

Readorium librarian introduces

all aspects of Readorium.

• Students grades 3 to 8 get

started by choosing a book off

the shelf.

• Students at any reading level

participates in sustained

reading activities that gives

them science literacy expertise.

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• Books level to kids ability as

they read!

• Identifying the main idea and the

supporting details are emphasized.

• Graphic features are used to

provide support.

Readorium does not assume prior

knowledge.

All new content is explained in

detail.

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• Readorium adapts passages to

meet the child’s learning needs.

• Readorium’s vocabulary and

complexity are automatically

matched to child’s level.

• All children can read and

understand content at their grade

level.

• Readorium’s deep dive reading

creates science whizzes.

Page 7: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

All children automatically

receive the text level and individualized

support they need to succeed.

Page 8: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• Students read chapter books

about science topics and

participate in sustained reading

activities that give them topic

expertise at their grade level.

• After each selection students

practice strategies with a game-

like challenge.

Page 9: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• Students get an automatic

interactive strategy lesson each

time they pick a new book.

• Lessons are humorous,

memorable, and student friendly.

• Strategy lessons include raps,

animations, and entertaining

videos.

• Students practice each strategy

with a game-like challenge.

Page 10: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• All topics are aligned to the Next

Generation Science Standards

and the Common Core Standards.

• Students participate in

memorable strategy lessons.

• Students are taught reading

strategies needed to understand

complex informational text.

Page 11: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• Each Readorium book is

connected to a reading strategy.

• Students benefit from isolating

specific reading strategies and

having lots of practice with them.

• To ensure sufficient practice there

are five books connected to each

specific strategy.

Page 12: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• There is a “mentor” in each

book who introduces the

topic to get kids excited

about it.

• The “mentor” guides each

student through the book,

providing personal help as

needed.

Page 13: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• Students are taught through

the Gradual Release of

Responsibility Model.

• In the first demo chapter the

“mentor” introduces the

unique strategy utilized in the

book, reads the first few

paragraphs, and uses a "think

aloud“ to demonstrate

strategic thinking.

Students too often gloss over

the organizational features

about the Title Page and

Table of Contents.

• Students are taught to

examine these features and

specific content carefully by

answering the Lightning

Round questions.

Page 15: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

Readorium Personalizes Student's Learning Experience

• Using Guided Practice

students fill in missing words,

access interactive vocabulary

cards, answer lightning round

questions, and view pictures

during the demonstration.

• All topics are aligned to the

Next Generation Science

Standards and the Common

Core Standards.

• Instructional methods are

based on Institute of Education

Sciences research.

• Students continue to read

independently and “mentor”

comes back if needed.

• Students may conduct

additional read/think alouds.

Page 17: Readorium Intro_JUL2016

• Hint 1: The mentor explains the

question and shows the child how to eliminate an incorrect answer.

• Hint 2: The child is told what to reread.

• Hint 3/4: The child sees a video clip that explains the science concept and the answer is explained.

Students earn greater rewards if they

use strategies and don’t need hints

Vocabulary is Taught in Many Ways:

• Lessons on Figuring Out New Words from Context

• Multimedia Vocabulary Cards

• Interactive Glossary

• Word Matching Mania

• Word Wizard World
