Conferences Organized by the Institute

The third biennial Conference on Empirical Issuesin International Trade and Finance (EIITF) wasorganized by the Institute at its Kolkata Campus on10-11 January 2013. The Conference received about130 papers, of which 70 were accepted and 68 werefinally presented during the Conference. Two speciallectures were delivered by Prof Jeffrey H. Bergstranjdfrom the University of Notre Dame, USA on “FiftyYears of Gravity Model in Trade” and by Prof.Maitreesh Ghatak of the London School ofEconomics on “Microfinance”. Dr. C. Rangarajan,Chairman of the Prime Minister’s EconomicAdvisory Council, inaugurated the Conference as theChief Guest. The Conference was attended byprominent faculty and researchers from various partsof the world, top business as well as from trade andindustry. The fourth conference will be held in NewDelhi.

As part of the Delhi Economics Conclave organizedduring 16-20 December 2012 the Indian Instituteof Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi hosted a one-day Conference on Macroeconomic StabilizationPolicy in an Era of Low Growth on 18 December2012 at IIFT premises. The Conference wassponsored by the Ministry of Finance, Governmentof India. The Conference brought together eminentresource persons from multilateral bodies like ADB,policy makers, academicians, researchers and industryexperts to deliberate on the macroeconomic policiesfor dealing with the global uncertainty and thechallenges that the world economy faces. The Guestof Honour for the Inaugural Function was Dr. Y.V.Reddy, Former Governor, Reserve Bank of India.Dr. Surajit Mitra, Director, IIFT gave an introductoryremark, while Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Chief EconomicAdvisor, Ministry of Finance delivered a specialaddress during the inaugural function. The othereminent resource persons who participated in theConference include among others, Dr. Cyn-Young

• Shri Rohit Mehtani, Professor was invited tobe a member of the delegation and a speaker atthe 4th India-EU Forum held in Brussels during22-26 October 2012. This event was co-organizedby the European Union Institute of SecurityStudies (EUISS) and the Indian Council of WorldAffairs (ICWA). Prof. Mehtani presented a papertitled “Prospects of Indo-European UnionBilateral Trade and Investment Agreement” at theForum and was a panelist and a speaker in thesession on Cooperation in Global EconomicGovernance at the Conference.
