YuMi Deadly Maths is the framework we use to teach
mathematics at our school!
This is what the grade 2s have been doing in Mathematics
and how we use the R.A.M.R. framework.
Reality Abstract Mathematics Reflection
Using the children’s REALITYREALITYREALITYREALITY,,,, we make connections to
mathematics and their real world.
Our REALITY (R): for time, was the students looking at all
things that tell time.
The children used their bodies, hands and minds to
abstract meaning and use materials to aid understanding.
ABSTRACTION (A): Students made a human analogue clock
using elastic bands and their bodies.
MATHEMATICS (M): The children apply and practise what they have learnt by
completing engaging activities, maths games and student led
quizzes.
A popular activity was making their own analogue clock.
Students also completed various tasks identifying o’clock, half
past, quarter past and quarter to on Analogue and Digital
clocks.
REFLECTION (R): We link our learning back to our REALITY
and reflect on how this will help us in the real world. For example: we can tell the time when we need to; lunchtime,
recess and home time and a five minute countdown.
Students completed a pre and post-test. The difference in
results was amazing. The students did an outstanding job
understanding time through the YuMi R.A.M.R. framework.
