FORUM 2017 will be served by three hotels. Deadline for hotel registration is March 18, 2017. NFBPA has set aside a limited number of rooms at each hotel at a special conference rate. The special rates are available until March 18, 2017, or until each room block has reached its capacity. Attendees must register for FO-RUM 2017 before making hotel reservations. Airport:

Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport/Adams Field, is located approximately seven miles east of the central business district of Little Rock. Allegiant, Ameri-can, Delta, Glo, Southwest and United airlines offer more than 50 daily flights to Arkansas from major hubs.

The airport is served by many taxis. The taxi stand at Clinton National Airport is located outside Exit H on the north side of bag claim closest to carousel 1. Aver-age cost to City Center is $30.

PRE-CONFERENCE TOURS 9:00 AM - 1:00 PMAfrican American Historic TourThe City of Little Rock offers plenty of reasons for you to enjoy it. Many of Little Rock’s most interesting attrac-tions are found in its downtown area. Take a tour of this historic capitol city.

The tour will begin at the Historic Ar-kansas Museum with a walking tour of historic homes dating back to the 1820s and 1840s. Next Stop Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. We will walk the street that captured the world’s attention in 1957, where sol-diers escorted the Little Rock Nine into the building. The last stop is the Mo-saic Templars Cultural Center. Visitors will explore the history, culture, and community of the African American expe-rience in Arkansas from 1870 to present.

Pre-Registration is required @ $20.00. Lunch Included.

NFBPA Community Service ProjectApril 20-21, 2017 W10:00 AM - 4:00 PM W EXHIBIT HALL, CONVENTION CENTERGIVE SO OTHERS CAN LIVEWe all realize that there is a tremendous need for life saving blood, bone mar-row, and organ donations within the African American community. According to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, African Americans make up the largest group of minorities in need of an organ transplant. In 2014, African Americans made up 12.7 percent of the national population. The number of organ transplants performed on African Americans in 2015 was only 17% of the number of Africans Americans currently waiting for a transplant. African Americans have higher rates of diabetes and high blood pressure. These conditions are known to put the patient at risk for organ failures.

The National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) will partner with the American Red Cross, Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency (ARORA), and the Na-tional Marrow Donor Program.

Panelists will be asked to provide their perspective on what steps should be taken to take advantage of lessons learned as we plan for tomorrow’s success.

SCHOLARSHIPSThe National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) is pleased to announce its 2017 Scholarship Program. The NFBPA Scholarship program is designed to recog-nize African-American or minority students who are currently enrolled full-time at a college or university with at least one academic semester remaining after May 2017, who exemplify outstanding scholarship, and leadership, particularly as related to public service.

We invite undergraduate and graduate students to participate in this year’s pro-gram as we look forward to making this year’s scholarship awards. NFBPA supports over 12 college students each year, with annual scholarships totaling more than $45 thousand dollars through partnerships with corporate supporters, public sector organizations and individual contributors.

POSTER CONTESTThe National Forum for Black Public Administrators Forum 2017 Student Research Poster Competition (SRPC) will be held on April 20, 2017 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The competition recognizes research conducted by students at all levels (under-graduate, masters, and doctoral). All students are encouraged to submit for this competition. Submissions should be closely related to one of the following topic areas: Local, state and federal governance, Public Administration and Policy and Innovations that impact public participation, public safety or public awareness.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION: The deadline to submit a poster abstract is February 1, 2017. In less than 250 words, poster abstracts should summarize the following: 1) the research question/problem statement; 2) the theory and hypothesis; 3) the research methods; 4) the findings and 5) the research implications. Submissions should be limited to research conducted during your time as a student. Research that incorporates the effort of a professor or a professional researcher (e.g. think tanks) is prohibited. You may only submit one poster abstract in which you are the lead/presenter. If your name will be affiliated with multiple abstract submissions, you can only select one project that you will serve as lead pre-senter.

SELECTION DECISIONS AND AWARDS:W The SRPC committee will se-lect the abstracts that are most suitable for the compe-tition, and each applicant will be notified of the com-mittee’s decision on or be-fore March 24, 2017.

W Finalists FORUM 2017 SRPC will be judged on April 20, and the winners will be an-nounced on April 21, 2017.

W The 1st place award is $1,500, the second place award is $1,000, and the third place award is $500.

Travel costs to attend FORUM 2017 are at the student’s expense. NFBPA will provide complimentary registration. Each accepted poster will receive recognition in the Forum 2017 program journal and on NFBPA’s website: www.nfpba.org.
