Creave Arts Foundaon of Brevard- Marshall Frank By Steve Spragins Our meeng of March 20 th , 2013 was conducted by Mar- shall Frank, the esteemed husband of Suzanne Frank. Mar- shall is a rered Miami homicide invesgator, published author and musical talent. Marshall and Suzanne are also founding members of the Creave Arts Foundaon of Bre- vard, as are several other members of our Rotary club. As he has done in years’ past, Marshall was able to round up several of the young, most musically giſted students in our county. The students below are only a smaering of the talent to be highlighted Sunday, April 14 th , at 4:00 P.M. at the Henegar Center located in historic downtown Melbourne. Tickets to the event are tax deducble and cost a paltry $22.00 to witness the best of the best high school students baling musically for $1,000’s of dollars in awards. Our first performer was Elizabeth Prado, a 15 year old 10 th grader aending Cocoa Beach High School, who sang a srring rendion of “Have a Margarita”, which, as it turns out was not quite correct. She actually sang “Ave Maria”, and did a quite nice rendion of the Charles Gounod/J.S. Bach lile diy. Next up was Mike Tornaa, 17, who is currently tak- ing classes at the George Washington Virtual High School, which could be virtually anywhere. His beauful voice belted out the great lyrics of what this writer thinks was an Italian opera song, as I have not heard this song neither on “The Voice” or “American Idol”. Our last guest performer was Elizabeth Hargis, a soon to be 17 year old (the next day), who stood right at 6’ tall, and could someday be a standout vol- leyball player when not sing in front of a piano. Elizabeth is home schooled and competes in musical events against her sister. The tle of the piece played was mostly vowels with just a few consonants intermingled, and sounded as if it were at least a sentence long. Her fingers glided across the key- board and the music produced was delighul, pleasing and complex. All in all, these students showcased the type of talent be gathering April 14 th at the Henegar Center. See Suzanne Frank or Larry or Susan Cinco if you are interested in aending. Creative Arts Foundation of Brevard- Marshall Frank By Steve Spragins

Our meeting of March 20th, 2013 was conducted by Mar-shall Frank, the esteemed husband of Suzanne Frank. Mar-shall is a retired Miami homicide investigator, published author and musical talent. Marshall and Suzanne are also founding members of the Creative Arts Foundation of Bre-vard, as are several other members of our Rotary club. As

he has done in years’ past, Marshall was able to round up several of the young, most musically gifted students in our county.

The students below are only a smattering of the talent to be highlighted Sunday, April 14th, at 4:00 P.M. at the Henegar Center located in historic downtown Melbourne. Tickets to the event are tax deductible and cost a paltry $22.00 to witness the best of the best high school students battling musically for $1,000’s of dollars in awards.

Our first performer was Elizabeth Prado, a 15 year old 10th grader attending Cocoa Beach High School, who sang a stirring rendition of “Have a Margarita”, which, as it turns out was not quite correct. She actually sang “Ave Maria”, and did a quite nice rendition of the Charles Gounod/J.S. Bach little ditty.

Next up was Mike Tornatta, 17, who is currently tak-ing classes at the George Washington Virtual High School, which could be virtually anywhere. His beautiful voice belted out the great lyrics of what this writer thinks was an Italian opera song, as I have not heard this song neither on “The Voice” or “American Idol”.

Our last guest performer was Elizabeth Hargis, a soon to be 17 year old (the next day), who

stood right at 6’ tall, and could someday be a standout vol-leyball player when not sitting in front of a piano. Elizabeth is home schooled and competes in musical events against her sister. The title of the piece played was mostly vowels with just a few consonants intermingled, and sounded as if it were at least a sentence long. Her fingers glided across the key-board and the music produced was delightful, pleasing and complex. All in all, these students showcased the type of talent be gathering April 14th at the Henegar Center. See Suzanne Frank or Larry or Susan Cinco if you are interested in attending.

Spotlight on President-Elect Corinne Ishler

Corinne Ishler knows her way around internationally, nationally and professionally.

She was born in Harbel, Liberia, West Africa, came to Hagerstown, Maryland at the age of 9, and then lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She came to Melbourne, Florida in 1979 after studying illustration and graphic design at the Cleveland Institute of Art and studied journalism at Penn State University before becoming Owner, Operations Director and Designer of All Media Graphics in Melbourne. Corinne previously worked for 22 years as a graphics and product designer for Florida Today newspaper.

One exception to her seemingly flawless itinerary was a wrong move several years ago that added 25 miles to a 50-mile long-distance cycling event in Cler-mont.

Her father Karl was a doctor on a rubber plantation and her mother Herta was a translator who spoke and wrote nine different languages. An elder brother, now deceased, also was a doctor, and her other brother works for the US Postal Service. Corinne’s daughter Amanda, a Client Retention Manager, lives in Se-attle, Washington. Daughter Kirby is a first-grade teacher in Tampa, Florida.

Her hobbies and “special interests” include sports, cycling (Corinne has compet-ed in various distance-cycling events and several ½ marathons, plus a triathlon - placing in the top 25% in each event), home improvement and decorating, and assisting in the planning of her daughter Kirby’s upcoming wedding.

She is a multiple winner of the American Advertising Federation’s ADDY award for her product design work with Spaces magazine. She serves on the Board of Directors of Devereux Florida, is an active member of the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce and is a member of Women in Defense – a national se-curity organization that provides women a formal environment for professional growth through networking, education and career development.

Fortunately for our club, Corinne made the right move when she accepted the office of President-Elect (2012-13) in March of this year. She has already attended the President-Elect Training Seminar. We can all look forward to an-other great Indialantic Rotary Club year (2013-14) under her leadership.

Birthdays this week!

Our two birthday celebrants this week are Susan Cinco – March 24 – and Steve Spragins – March 25. Are they wearing their aquamarine birth-stones this week?

Is it the truth? President Dwan reminded members that the club pays for lunches for all members present at each meeting. Apparently a few or us forget to make our payments causing a substantial deficit in the club’s operating budget.

Please, when you sign in remember to pay your $20, which includes $1.00 for a 50/50

Report on Board of Directors meeting, March 20, 2013

Discussion preceded a passed motion to increase business card ads in the Rota-tor from $30 to $60 for a six-month period.

Approved a banking signature card for Club Secretary Jean Hender.

Approved the donation of $360 to the Guatemala Project for literacy support of the Ak Tenemit residence school.

Recommended that President Dwan announce that persons accompanying guest speakers, and those in attendance with young guest performers and pre-senters, Interact Club members and RYLA students be required to pay for their lunches. Pres. Dwan also was urged to announce that speakers and program sponsors are to refrain from direct solicitation of financial support from the club and/or from individual members during meetings.

Sec. Jean Hender, with advice from Membership Retention Ch. Jim Hagerty, reported that the following with member badges, or who held Other Half sta-tus, had long since departed and previously had been removed from the rolls: Blain Butler, Miguel Mata, Ken Strahm and Warren Higgins. Accepted the previously confirmed resignations of Dawn Dickson and Ken Rhoden. Accepted the previously confirmed removal of Lanette Ouellette (for health reasons) and Heather McCaslin (for attendance problems and dues payments). Accepted the motion that Lanette Ouellette be named Honorary Member.

President Dwan announced that the District Conference is set for June 7 – 9 in Boca Raton and we should encourage members to attend. Car pool arrange-ments will be encouraged to increase club representation, especially on Satur-day, June 8, 2013. He announced that Stephanie Falconi reported that our RYLA student representative has been elected. She will not know his name un-til it appears on the application to be submitted to District.

Director Ed Baranowski suggested a rotary-meeting format at six to eight mem-ber volunteers’ work sites for one of the first two weeks in August when the Yacht Club is closed. Consideration of Jock Walker’s suggestion that we investi-gate the Crown Plaza Hotel on A1A In Indialantic as an alternate meeting place as well.

Sec. Jean Hender requested that all applications for new members be sub-mitted to the Membership Chairs by the applicants or their sponsors.

Past-Pres. Stan Helm, noting a lack of a WiFi connection in the meeting room for program-access to the internet, volunteered request that the Yacht Club install one for our use when necessary.

POST-MEETING ACTION - By polling Board members after the Board meeting a request for leave of absence, due to health reasons, was approved for Richard Green, effective January 1 to June 30, 2013.
