Africa’s problems can be separated into three

areas: Social

• In some developing countries less than ½ the population can read or write

• If people cannot read or write it can mean no one could train to be doctors, teachers or engineers

• This results in poor farming methods, and difficulty in getting a job

Many African countries have borrowed money or inherited debt

from previous regimes. These loans were supposed to help

develop the country but paying them back is causing even more

problems.

Most countries have difficulty paying back interest never mind

the actual debt!

What happened? Rwanda is a tiny country in the centre of Africa.It has two main races, the “Hutus” and the “Tutsis”.In April 1994 the Hutus embarked upon a campaign which left around 1,000,000 people dead within the space of 6 weeks.

African countries have many problems. The first problem is the lack of education (1). This means that a lot of people in Africa don’t get a good education. Schools don’t get much funding and many people are illiterate. This means that there aren’t enough people to train as doctors and nurses. (2)
