This setting is suitable for my scene because the foyer has dim lighting, which is what I need to convey negative connotations in this scene. It also contains a lot of décor similar to that found in Wes Anderson films, such as an old patterned carpet, large dark woodwork, a large set of stairs and a lot of photographs hanging on the walls.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because the white damask wallpaper; taxidermy hanging on the walls and the symmetry of the room are all classic conventions of a Wes Anderson film.





It is very unlikely that any one will be affected by filming in this location since it is my own house and there will be no one in the building other than the cast and me as a director.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because it is to represent ‘The Royal School of Contemporary Art’, which I want to perceive as extremely grand and sophisticated. These kinds of buildings are also common occurrences in Wes Anderson films.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because the white walls make it adaptable for any scene. The results letter scene isn’t vital as it only consists of a couple of shot reverse-shots/mid shots, therefore I can decorate the visible background with props such as taxidermy or photo frames.

Scene 5: Art gallery

Type of building/structure/landscape: Peterborough museum is a large, Victorian style building with lots of large windows and a large doorway. Inside the art gallery is very simplistic, like every other gallery.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable for my scene because the gallery isn’t a far drive away, and it is open until 5pm every day which gives me time to get there and film.

Neale Wade Academy is a large modern secondary school, the sports hall is typically large with wooden waxed flooring, pitch markings on the floor and tall white walls with basketball hoops on them.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because in the scene the setting is literally a school’s sports hall; therefore using a real-life school’s sports hall is convenient rather than trying to recreate one.





The teachers who are in/around the sports hall at the time, the students who may be in the sports hall at the time, and also the cleaner who may be trying to clean at the time


I am going to the sports hall after school hours so that there will be no pupils and less teachers around, the shot is also very brief so we will not be there for a long time.

I have contacted the Head of Sports at Neale Wade to ask for permission to use the sports hall, he agreed to let us use it on Wednesday 22nd April at 16:00


The restrictions we had was trying to fit our schedule in with the times the sports hall was available, e.g – avoiding doing it on days where there were after school clubs, lessons, or during school times.

If there is any one in the park at the time, they may be affected, as we will be filming directly in the center of the playing field.

This scene includes mixing liquids together to create a fake explosion, however the bright light from the explosion will come from a floodlight used by a crewmember that knows how to properly use it. Smashing two frying pans together will create the loud bang, which could be a hazard if someone got in the way.

A reformed, Victorian style cinema turned pub Why is this setting suitable for my scene?

This setting was suitable because the main pub area has an extremely large space to film, and has a perfectly symmetrical layout, which is often seen in Wes Anderson films. Not only this, but the décor used, such as the old patterned carpet, the dark woodwork, and the photographs hanging up every where fit all of the conventions of Anderson. The pub also has dim lighting, which is what I need to convey negative connotations. It was also easy for me to get access to the pub as I work there, so I have connections to the manager and the people that work there will feeling comfortable being my extras.





We may affect the employees working at the time or any customers that are in the pub, if there are any

Precautions/measurements taken to minimize the impact of filming: We are filming at 08:00 on a Monday morning, which is as soon as The Hippodrome opens and on its quietest day, so there are likely to not be any customers in there and the staff are not likely to be busy. Power sources available:

The manager of The Hippodrome granted permission for me to film both in the seating area and behind the bar.


The only restrictions I encountered was filming at a time that was suitable for the staff so that they don’t have a lot of work to do, for the customers to make sure there aren’t many in there to be distracted, and for us to get the quietest possible setting to film in.

Where will the crew work on this location? At the back of the seating area in The Hippodrome, in the foyer and the Hippodrome, and also behind the bar

Where will the cast work on this location? The actor will work in the main seating area and at the bar of the Hippodrome.

Scene 12: Introduction to Giovanetta

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because the staircase is wide, long and right in the center of the house so it is perfectly symmetrical.





The only people affected by filming will be the people in Sara’s house at the time – possibly family members.


I have arranged a time to film when most of her family is out of the house so we do not disturb anyone.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because the corridor has lots of paintings and art hanging on the wall; this is a common reoccurrence in Wes Anderson’s films. It is also a large open space so I am able to get some long shots and wide shots.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because the front of the house is symmetrical, it has large windows and a large door and it looks grand, much like the buildings in a Wes Anderson film.

Scene 18: Giovanetta’s house

A large, flat green field on the edge of a cliff looking out onto the sea, a house directly in the middle

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable for my scene because it coincides with Giovanetta moving to a seaside town in Denmark. Old Hunstanton is the closest beach to film at which is convenient as it is often empty.





It is unlikely that there will be people in Old Hunstanton because it is usually practically empty. However if there are, the only people there will be holidaymakers or some of the very few citizens who live there.


I am filming just a 2 second long clip of the landscape, therefore I won’t need to set up much camera equipment, only the camera and the tripod so I won’t get in anybody’s way.

There are no restrictions and the only hazard is that we could break down on the way there, as it is quite a long drive.

Scene 19: Arrow’s letter

It is a small, terraced building in the center of an old Edwardian town. Inside is narrow but long and there is a staircase to the right.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? This setting is suitable because it is quite run down and I needed somewhere that would look like it had been abandoned. The upstairs of the shop hasn’t been used in a few years so it does have an abandoned feel to it. I also work here so I am able to come in whenever and film.





The only people affected by the filming would be the customers coming into the salon if we filmed at a time the salon was open.


I have arranged to film this scene before the salon opens in the morning so avoid any customers coming in half way through a shot.

Scene 20: Meet at the prairie

The bottom of West End Park is mainly just grass and a large field that is mostly untouched.

Why is this setting suitable for my scene? The fact that people rarely go to the end of West End means it is largely untouched, and is quite overgrown. This gives it the natural, preserved look of a prairie. The setting will also be empty to film so no one will get involved in the shots.
