RODUCTION

In August, 1982, a geological survey was completed over the Clergue township property. The property consists of 16 contiguous unpatented mining claims located in the southeast part of Clergue township and the northeast part of Stock township, Porcupine Mining Division, Ontario. The claims are bounded on the east by the property of Consolidated Montclergue Mines Limited. The claims comprising this property are as follows i

LOCATION AND ACCESS - ^,

The property is located approximately 48 kilometres east-northeast of the old town of Timmins and 2 kilometres west of the village of Monteith (Figure 1). The property is accessabie by truck on concession road l, Clergue Township, with poorly maintained roads south to the property between lots 2 and 3 and between lots 4 and 5 (Figure 2),

The property is dominated by low swampy areas consisting of tag alders, cedar and poplar. A low ridge occupies the northeastern portion of the property where the few outcrops on the property occur. Portions

property have been cleared for cow pasture and hay fields. The swampy areas are underlain by thick locustive varved clay

deposits that can exceed one hundred feet in thickness.

PREVIOUS WORK

In 1938 heavy rains caused a minor mud slide along the east bank of the Driftwood river in the south half of lot l, concession I, Clergue Township. The mud slide uncovered an outcrop of silicified volcanic rocks yielding low but interesting values in gold. Subsequent work by Consolidated Montclergue Mines Ltd. in the period from 1938 to 1965 outlined a sub-marginal gold zone ^,300 feet long and 200 to 400 feet wide.

The Nahanni property adjoins the Consolidated Montclergue property immediately to the west. From 1973 to 1975 H. Carlson held the south half of lot 3i concession i and rjorancxa Exploration held the south half of lot ^, concession I, Clergue Township and the north half, lot 5 1 concession VI, Stock Township, magnetometer and electromagnetic surveys were completed by Carlson and Noranda.

Nananni Mines Ltd. acquired the property by staking in October, 1978. By November 1980 magnetometer and electromagnetic surveys had been completed over the property and in July, 1931 a diamond drill hole was completed near the ea0 ": boundry.

GEOLOGY

In the southeastern part of Clergue Township the bedrock formations consist of intermediate mafic and ultramafic lavas and pyroclastic rock- striking east-northeast and dipping nearly vertical. The stratigraphy has oeen later intruded with north northwest trending diabase dykss.

^n the property outcro? is restricted to the northeast corner and a small area near the east central boundry of lot 4. From outcrop ar.ci. drill information there appears to be a sequence of mafic flows ?.nd tuffs on the north side o: Vie property with ultramafic flows and tuffs to the south followed by intermediate flows and tuffs.

The mafic unit consists of massive and pillowed flows ir.terculated with ^ui-Vacious units. Only minor amounts of pyrite were observed disseminated ^.hroughout the unit. T&e rocks have been -;v?tamorphosed to greenshist facies with chlorite the dominant mineral. In the trench

-9E/3&50S contains several nearly flat lying quartz-carbonate veins up*"to l foot thick.

The ultramafic unit to the south consists of massive flows inter- culated with tuf^acious beds, lie rock is dominantly a talc chlorite schist with minor quartz carbonate veining. Several zones of silicifi cation occur conformably in the ultraraafics. Within the ultramafics are chert-graphite horizons ac seen in drill core and outcrop on L52E at 2&OON. The cherts on L52S are well bedded and contain up to 5* pyrite.

To the south of the ultramafic unit is a unit only intersected in drilling consisting of highly silicified intermediate to mafic flows. The unit is highly altered and probably represents the gold bearing horizon on the Consolidated Kontclergue property to the east.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The main consideration on this property is the location of the pipestone fault zone. This zone is probably located south of hole CS-81-1 and follows roughly the trend of the natural gas pipeline. Further exploration for gold mineralization on this property should be carried out by diamond, drilling in the area south and west CS-81-1.
