HARARE, Zimbabwe, 19 December 2008Deep grief is evident in Nigel Chigudu'seyes. In a tortured voice, he slowlyrecounts the harrowing tragedy that sawhim lose five siblings in five hours to thecholera epidemic that has been sweepingacross Zimbabwe.
"They started vomiting and had seriousdiarrhoea," recalls Nigel, 15. "Theyoungest, Gamu, was 14 months old, andLameck was 12 years old. It was in themiddle of the night; I could not take themanywhere. I just watched them die.
"Two days later, my grandmother alsopassed away," he adds.
Nigel Chigudu, 15, lost five siblings to cholera in one night.

Community members experiences from Dadajabula, Wajir, Kenya
A woman who was the head of her household andthe sole breadwinner for her family, found themanagement of the sickness of her two smallestchildren very difficult. While they were in thetreatment centre she had to ask her mother to come fromthe village to look after the rest of her children. It wasvery difficult to provide food as it was not provided bythe hospital. The 5 weeks from the time they were sickwas also very terrible as she could not work and so therewas no income coming in as she was the sole breadwinnerfor the family.

Community members experiences from Dadajabula, Wajir, Kenya
An elderly woman lost her brother and his firstwife and now has the added responsibility oflooking after his children as well as his secondwife and looks after a total of 15 people. She makes
grassmats to try and earn a living, but finds it very difficult.She also found it very difficult to construct enoughhousing as she had to bring all of the children togetherafter the death of her brother.
