All Welcome. May is the month we associate with First Holy Communion. There is a palpable sense of excitement among the children preparing for the big day. Some of it rubs off on families too – it is a real milestone in life and in some sense a rite of passagein Irish life. Those of you who attend the eleven oclock Mass on Sunday morning will have noticed that on the one Sunday a month that we celebrate the Do This in MemoryMass, the numbers of parents and children attending are greatly increased. Some parents live outside the parish and make the effort to come to Mass in Crumlin for this special mass. Other parents have commitments with their children and sport on Sunday morning and so do not normally attend Mass at that time. Some parents who do not attend Mass on a regular basis make a special effort during this time. Another element of the Do This in Memory programme is a special candle that each child was given at the beginning of the programme back in October. Each child is encouraged to set up a small sacred spaceat home and with a parent, to light their candle every day and say a prayer together. In addition, a very user friendly booklet on how to understand the Mass and how to pass on this understanding to children was given to parents. The Do This in Memory Programme then is an attempt by the parish to welcome and assist parents and their families during this special year. The gospel this Sunday uses the metaphor of the vine and branches and the word remain in meoccurs many times to try to bring us to a deeper understanding of the life offered to us through communion with Christ and with each other. Let us hope and pray that at least some of those who take part in the parish preparation programme for First Holy Communion this year come to a deeper experience of this life and wish to stay connected to their faith community. That way we will all be enriched – and challenged. Gráinne Prior National Collection for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress The National Collection for the 50th International Eucharist Congress replaces the Share collection today. Special envelopes are available at the Church exits for anyone who wishes to give a special donation and these may be returned to the Sacristy, Parish Office or Family Offering Box. THANK YOU TO DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL We would like to express our sincere thanks to the local staff of Dublin City Council who removed quite successfully unwanted graffiti from the back of the Church. Their efforts on our behalf are deeply appreciated. BEWARE of BOGUS CALLERS !!! It has come to our attention that persons have been collecting door to door in the parish for St Vincent de Paul.
