Creating a Recirculatiing SALAD Simulation Pumping and Suction System
James DuCanto, M.D.
Components:
Bemis Suction lid and cannister
Elmer’s Glue Pump
Adhesive (Shoo Goo or substitute)
Power drill with 1 inch drill bit, round (rat tail) file to finish the drilled lid
1. Disassemble the Elmer’s Glue pump and obtain the following part:
-
2. Utilize a 1 inch drill bit to create a hole in the Bemis suction lid, opposite the pour cap spout and centered between the rim and the center of the lid. Widen the hole so that the this part can be screwed into the hole from below. Secure this part to the Bemis lid with glue, and ensure that this lower part is more “vertical” so that when the glue has cured, this part does not rub the walls of the suction container too much.
-
3. Assemble Bemis lid to suction container, then assemble the pump: Spring, then top portion.
This setup will allow you to pump the Simulated Airway Contaminant (SAC) out of the container while simultaneously suctioning the SAC back into the container.
