Linda Francica Laraqui began her performing arts training at 7 years-old. She studied many dance forms, earned the lead in her elementary school musicals, played the piano, sang solos with the chorus, and choreographed for various school events. Linda continued her studies at Manhattanville College, majoring in Dance and Theatre. She performed in the realm of renowned choreographers, and created several pieces of her own. For two years, she was president of the college’s student dance organization, and graduated with a Bachelor of organization, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude.

Through the years, Linda has been honored for her achievements in the performing arts. Before opening Magical Movements, Linda worked with children at studios, pre-schools, and artistic programs across Westchester County. She danced on MTV’s Direct Effect, studied voice, and appeared in a TV commercial. With a long time dream and the guidance of her entrepreneur dad, Linda opened Magical Movements School of Dance in September 2003. She is proud to be directing the studio for almost 18 years, and looks forward to making more memories in the years to come!

A Note From The Director

Dear Magical Movements Family & Friends,

As I reflect on these last 15 months, all I can say is thank you. It’s been quite a journey for all of us. There were plenty of tears and so much uncertainty, but here we are. We learned to not give up, to better deal with adversity, to have more patience and be more hopeful, to persevere, and to appreciate the little things we so often took for granted.

A year ago, I remember hugging my husband at the kitchen sink, and crying for the hundredth time. It would have been Magical Movements 17th Annual Dress Rehearsal. I had already lost my grandfather and one of my closest friends to an unimaginable disease. Would my childhood dream survive?

A couple weeks later, we got word the studio could physically re-open! My father put on his “Super Dad” cape, and helped ensure the studio would be an even safer place to teach, to dance, and to have fun. The summer session got off to a later than usual start. It looked quite different with face coverings, social distancing, temperature checks, hand sanitizing, signs, decals, tape, plexi-glass, and extra cleaning products. Did we ever imagine such a thing? No. But, the most important part was being physically together again. As many continued “working from home,” the staff and I had the opportunity to actually enjoy human interaction. It was a sense of normalcy we had missed out on for a few months. While it kept us going, we worried. The last thing Lisa, our office assistant, and I wanted was for anyone (or one of their family members) to get sick. So, we did whatever we could to help keep the community healthy, safe, and dancing! And, that included me schlepping around teaching materials from backyards and garages to parks. I found myself literally dripping in sweat, losing my voice, and unable to catch a breath. But, it brought smiles to many children’s hearts, and kept Magical Movements afloat, and that’s all that mattered.

As the months passed, and more students came back through the studio doors, everyone wanted to know if there would be a recital — the kind where little Suzy graces the big stage wearing a cute costume under the special lights, while her proud family cheers her on in the audience. After much dismay, the day is finally here!

I want to thank all of you for choosing Magical Movements. Thank you for trusting in our facility and our staff to help ensure your child’s health and safety. Thank you for believing in us. Thank you to each and every person who helped keep this childhood dream alive. There finally seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.
