Member Recognition

BUILDER OF EXCELLENCEBe the key builder (maximum of 4 persons) ofa New Club with at least 25 Charter Members.

The plan recognizes and honors up to 4 (four) Buildersof Excellence for each New Club sponsored. EachSponsor Club (maximum 2) can name 2 (two) individuals astheir Builder of Excellence. These Members are usually theKey Builders who were actively involved in building theNew Club. (Please note that if two Clubs sponsor a NewClub, both Sponsor Clubs can receive Distinguished status.)

The primary builder of each New Club will bedesignated a Builder of Excellence and each will receive anattractive lapel pin inscribed with the number of Clubs builtby that Builder. Each Builder of Excellence will also receivea Presidential certificate, which will display their name, thename of the Club, date of organization and number of NewClubs built by the Builder. In addition, the District willreceive a personalized patch to affix to the special Builderof Excellence banner for display at District meetings andconventions. The patch will denote the name of the Builderof Excellence, the number of New Clubs built by the builder, the name of the New Club and the year of theorganization.

To further recognize this accomplishment, a medallion will be presented to the Builder of Excellence at theInternational Convention or via mail if not attending the Convention.

Sponsorship of a Renovated Club, Associate Club, or JOOI Club does not qualify for Builder ofExcellence Recognition.

HONOR CLUB• Membership: Net +1 for Clubs with 20 to

74 members (75 or more must retain) (19or fewer must attain 20).

• Finances: to Optimist International bySeptember 30, 2007

The President of an Honor Club will receive anHonor Club certificate and a special Honor ClubPresident pin. The Club will receive an Honor Clubpatch with an additional second patch showing thename of the President and the year in which therecognition was earned. In subsequent years, Clubswill receive a name and year patch to be mountedbelow the original Honor Club patch. TheSecretary/Treasurer of an Honor Club will receive acertificate recognizing their contributions to thesuccess of theClub.

DISTINGUISHED CLUBGrowing Clubs provide more service to youth

and community, bring new volunteer resources andmore effectively embrace the enthusiasm ofOptimism. A Club can earn the title of aDistinguished Club with a Distinguished President bygrowing.

The Recognition: The Club President will be recognized by

resolution of the International Board of Directors andwill receive a Distinguished President certificate anda watch. The Club will receive a Distinguished Clubpatch to be mounted on the banner, a patchindicating the name of the Club President and theyear in which the recognition was earned. Insubsequent years, Clubs will receive a name andyear patch to be mounted below the originalDistinguished Club patch. The Secretary/Treasurer

of a Distinguished Club will receive a certificaterecognizing their contributions to the success of theClub.

Requirements for Distinguished Club are toqualify for Honor Club and in addition do any of thefollowing by September 30, 2007:

Alternate A – Build a New Optimist ClubSponsor a New Club with at least 25 Charter

Members between October 1 and September 30.The Club must also complete the New Club Follow-up Program. (Please note that if two Clubs sponsora New Club, both Sponsor Clubs can receiveDistinguished status.)

Alternate B – Membership GrowthA Club on October 1 must show by September

30 a net increase of 25 or more Members over itsOctober 1 membership. This increase must beproperly reported to Optimist International on theClub Roster Adjustment (CRA) forms.

Alternate C – Sponsor Two New JOOIClubs

Sponsor any combination of two (2) new JOOIClubs: Junior Optimist, Octagon or Alpha Clubs.Club must charter between October 1 andSeptember 30 with a minimum of 25 fully paidCharter Members at the time of the OfficialOrganization Meeting. The Sponsor Club mustcertify that the Follow-Up Program has beencompleted no later than November 30, 2007.

Alternate D – Renovate an existing Club Renovate an existing Club with 10 or fewer

NEW CLUB SPONSORSHIPPATCHES

Presented to every Club that sponsors a newOptimist Club and completes the NCB Follow-UpProgram. To qualify for NCB sponsorship, the NewClub must have a minimum of 25 fully paid Charter

Members at the time of theOrganizational Meeting.Charter rosters of New Clubsshall close on the 15th dayfollowing the formalOrganizational Meeting date.No charter additions will beaccepted after September 30,

2007. All charter rosters close on that date. TheFollow-Up Program must be completed and certifiedwithin 90 days after the New Club is organized.Follow-Up Programs for Clubs organized inSeptember must be completed by November 30,2007.

GOLDEN TEN/GOLDENTWENTY/GOLDEN THIRTY

The Golden Ten patch is presented to anOptimist Club that has successfully sponsored 10

New Optimist Clubs since the inauguration of theClub sponsorship program, July 1, 1951. TheGolden Twenty is presented to a Club that hassponsored 20 new Clubs since that date. TheGolden Thirty is presented to a Club that hassponsored 30 new Clubs since that date.Presentations are made at the InternationalConvention to Clubs attaining the honor during thepast year.

All New Club Sponsorship rules apply.

An Honor Zone represents a year ofencouraging and supporting Club Officers towardClub achievement. Being an Honor Zone with anHonor Lieutenant Governor means you left yourZone and its Clubs a little better for Optimism thanwhen you took office.

The Recognition: The Lieutenant Governor receives a certificate

of accomplishment and a specially designed HonorLieutenant Governor pin.

DISTINGUISHED LIEUTENANTGOVERNOR

A Distinguished Lieutenant Governor is one whoinspires growth throughout the Zone and becomespersonally involved in expanding their Zone into anew community by chartering a New Optimist Club.More Optimists translate to more youth service!

The Recognition: The Distinguished Lieutenant Governor

receives a certificate and a specially designedDistinguished Lieutenant Governor gold pin with ablue stone, plus a name and year patch.

RULES FOR RECOGNITIONPROGRAM:

Closing Out Records: The Records in the International Office will be

closed and winners determined following receipt andprocessing of all required reports for the administrativeyear. After the close of the administrative year, severalweeks may be required to tabulate all necessary dataand check records of all Clubs and Districts before theofficial list of winners can be made available.

Premature Announcements of Winners: District or Club Officers should not make a

premature announcement of any awards attained byClubs, Club Officers, Districts or District Officers. Theofficial announcement must come from the InternationalOffice.

Distribution: Shipments cannot be made until all winners have

been determined and officially announced by theInternational Office. All items will be mailed to theImmediate Past Governor (or a designate).

Club Roster Adjustments: Because membership is an important determining

factor in Club and District recognition, it is imperativethat each Club updates its roster each time aMembership change occurs (Optimist InternationalBylaws Article VIII Section 2).

Club Reports-Signatures: Club reports will only be accepted with signatures

of the current Club President and/or Secretary/Treasurer (Optimist International Policy IC-31).

Building New Optimist Clubs:At the time of the Organizational Meeting, for

award purposes, a new Optimist Club should besponsored between October 1 and September 30 andhave a minimum of 25 fully paid Charter Members.Charter rosters of New Clubs shall close on the 15th

day following the formal Organizational Meeting date.No Charter additions will be accepted after September30, 2007. All charter rosters close on that date. TheSponsor Club must complete and certify the New ClubFollow-Up Program, which consists of three Follow-upReports and a Certificate of Completion, within 90days after the official Organization. Clubs organizedin September must have the Follow-Up Programcompleted and postmarked by an official post office nolater than November 30, 2007. The Certificate ofCompletion can be found on the last page of the NewClub Follow-Up Program Guidebook or online atwww.optimist.org on the bottom of the forms page.

In addition, for the purpose of NCB credit, theSponsor President or designated representative (aSponsor Club Member other than the LieutenantGovernor) must attend the Official OrganizationalMeeting.

When a new Club is built across Districtboundaries, the membership shall be assigned to theDistrict in which the new Club is geographicallylocated, while the New Club Building credit will beassigned to the District of the Sponsor Club. Therenovation of existing Optimist Clubs as defined onpage 5 will stay within current District boundaries.

Sponsorship of an Associate Club or JOOI Clubdoes not qualify for New Club Building Credit.

Importance of Correct Zone Listings ofClubs:

Districts need to pay special attention early to thecorrect listing of Clubs by Zones. Each Governor willbe asked to submit Zone listings prior to the beginningof the administrative year to the MembershipDepartment.

District Achievement Winner: For those Districts that conduct a District incentive

program to determine the “top” Club, OptimistInternational will provide the patch for the DistrictAchievement winners. A request must be sent toOptimist International stating the two (2) top winners.When a Club achieves the number one position for thefirst time, it will receive the banner-strip and year-flagfor the banner. In subsequent years, winning Clubs will receive a year-flag only.

Only the 2006-2007 Club President may make application, and it must be received in the International Office no later thanAugust 31, 2007. Only one recipient per Club will be accepted. The citation will be shipped to the 2006-2007 President forpresentation to Member. PLEASE TYPE OR PRINT

PERSONAL GROWTH ANDINVOLVEMENT (PGI)

“Personal Growth and Involvement” (PGI) is aprogram to develop personal skills and to “DevelopOptimism as a Philosophy of Life.” The PGIprogram offers every Optimist Member theopportunity to grow personally and learn moreabout Optimism while advancing through 10 levelsof involvement, personal growth and achievement.

How PGI works: To begin your journey through PGI, download

the PGI Requirements checklist fromwww.optimistleaders.org or request a Passport fromyour District Director of Personal Growth, yourGovernor or Optimist International.

Use your Passport to record the completion ofrequirements for each level. All Activities at eachlevel must be attested to by your Club Director ofPersonal Growth, Secretary/Treasurer or President inthe Passport for Levels I through VII and by yourLieutenant Governor or Governor for Levels VIIIthrough X.

Each level of PGI contains the followingelements: Attendance, Activity, Knowledge ofOrganization, Self Development andCommunication.

As you complete each level, have your passportsigned by the appropriate official, who shouldforward the PGI Recognition Form to the DistrictDirector of Personal Growth who serves as theadministrator for the PGI program in your District.

The Award: Round colored pin backings (which fit behind

your Member pin) representing the Level attained(Levels I through VII) will be distributed uponcompletion of each level. Pin backings arepresented to the Club (at a District meeting) and tothe individual at a Club meeting.

A Presidential Certificate of Personal Growth willbe given to each Member upon completion of theseventh (gold) Level. A special lapel pin will bepresented by the International President at theInternational Convention upon completion of Level X.

Theseare generally two-hour workshops and include suchtopics as: Public Speaking, Effective TimeManagement, Creative Problem Solving, ChoosingOptimism as a Philosophy of Life, ParliamentaryProcedures, Orientation to Optimism for NewMembers, Team Building, Leadership Styles andProfiles, Mentoring and Managing Change.

An Optimist may earn recognition for solelysponsoring new Members (other than CharterMembers) into any Optimist Club. The sponsorshipis cumulative; the Members secured from one yearapply toward the next year.

New Members must be formallyprocessed and added to the Club roster atthe International Office before the items canbe supplied. Sponsorship informationshould be provided on all Club RosterAdjustment forms.

Applications may be submitted to theMembership Department at theInternational Office in writtencorrespondence containing the followinginformation: name of recipient plus namesand dates of Members sponsored by them.The pin will be shipped to the Governor forsignificant presentation and recognition atthe District level.

GOLD HONOR CLUB This may be a District award to recognize

submission of a CPA (Community Projects Awards),Officer Elect Report (by May 20) and an President’sPride Report (by October 15). Suggestedrecognition: Gold Honor Certificate.

Suggested Criteria For Incentive/Recognition atthe District level does not apply to OptimistInternational Recognition Program.

DISTRICTSThe District Recognition Program contributes to

the development and inspiration of leadership atboth the Club and Zone levels, and recognizesleaders for outstanding performance in theachievement of goals. Optimist Internationalrecommends that it is the intent of the District tooversee and implement the criteria for their ownRecognition requirements. It is imperative the Past,Present and Elect Officials work together to maketheir District the best that it can be! Note that allreports still need to be submitted to OptimistInternational and the Districts, but they are notrequired for the Optimist International RecognitionProgram.

Outstanding Lieutenant Governor (This is a District RECOGNITION)A District Governor may choose to designate an

Outstanding Lieutenant Governor for any of thefollowing:

• The top Lieutenant Governor for the greatestnet gain in Zone Members during the year (basedon October 1 beginning membership).

• The top Lieutenant Governor for the greatestnumber of New Optimist Clubs built during the year.

• The top Lieutenant Governor for the highestpercentage of Honor Clubs.

• The Award is at the discretion of theGovernor and District budget.

Each season of the year provides new opportunities to increase our service to youth and “Bring Out theBest in Kids.”

Earn the banner patches below by sharing Optimism and making a difference in your community allyear round.

Fall: Charter a new Optimist Club in the 1st Quarter

Winter: Hold a NOW Program and increase your Club’s membership by 3 Members within

the 2nd Quarter

Spring: Conduct a Childhood Cancer Campaign (CCC) fundraiser and donate $200.00 to the

Optimist International Foundations during the 3rd Quarter

Summer: Achieve a net increase of 1 or more Members over the Club’s October 1

membership by September 30, 2007

Earn all four to receive an exclusive heart patch to put inthe middle of the Seasons of Love banner patches.

In addition, for each JOOI Clubthat your Club charters, you willreceive a special heart-shapedJOOI banner patch.
