Mapping

Although developed from UK qualifications, InternationalVocational Qualifications (IVQs) are designed to bedelivered overseas, and are not subject to the rules andregulations set by the Qualifications and CurriculumAuthority (QCA), the regulatory authority in England.

IVQs, as a result, are not included in the NationalQualifications Framework of England, Wales and NorthernIreland, but the mapping provides information on how theyrelate to awards in the UK education system. This analysiscan then be used to infer possible progression into higher, further or professional education, dependent on theadmitting institution.

Higher education

Institutions listed in this document are examples ofuniversities and management institutes which haverecognised the IVQs in Telecommunication Systems asmeeting the level of skills and knowledge required for entryinto relevant undergraduate degree programmes, with thepossibility of exemptions.

Recognition means that applications from holders ofappropriate certificates will normally be considered foradmission, provided that all other academic and non-academic requirements, including their English languageproficiency, are met.

Successful completion of levels indicated in the list doesnot guarantee admission.

Professional associations

Professional organisations listed here have recognised theIVQs in Telecommunication Systems for membershippurposes or as granting exemptions from certainprofessional examinations.

Employers and employer associations

IVQs are highly respected by employers as evidence ofinternational competence. Many organisations havesuccessfully used our international awards as part of theirrecruitment, training or staff development programme.

Employer associations have also recognised IVQs as abenchmark to improve skills standards in the industry.

Mapping

The UK’s National Recognition

Information Centre (UK NARIC)

Broad links have been established betweenthe IVQs in Telecommunication Systems, theUK’s National Occupational Standards(NOS)* and then levels of the NationalQualifications Framework (NQF)** of England, Wales andNorthern Ireland. This analysis can be used to inferpossible progression within the UK education system, dependent on the admitting institution.

*NOS are standards used to develop vocational qualifications in the UK.They define good practice in the way people work, based on the functionsof their job.

**The NQF sets out the levels at which qualifications can be recognised inEngland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Only qualifications that have beenaccredited by the three regulatory authorities (QCA, ACCAC and CCEA) areincluded in the NQF.

The mapping was carried out by the UK’s NationalRecognition Information Centre and National ReferencePoint for Vocational Qualifications (UK NARIC/ NRP).

UK NARIC/ NRP are the official source of information forguidance on levels of international qualifications in the UK(both academic and vocational).

www.naric.org.uk

Key findings

The IVQs in Telecommunication Systems closely meetstandard international practice. They relate broadly tolevels within the NQF and the UK’s NOS.

These comparisons are outlined in the table below:
