Sound Codes for instance, music, silence and sound effects
were used in our clip
Trio FM used an Agony Aunt . We modernized our theme
tune which challenges usual conventions of theme tunes-
which are usually classical jingles.
Headlines Two hosts were used whilst presenting the newscasts,
which is the same as the radio station, Capital FM and
especially the Capital event of the Jingle Bell Ball.
Interactivity We challenged news casts by adding an Agony Aunt which
enables the listeners to interact with the radio station.
Sports, Political and Entertainment News. Many radio
stations do not broadcast their topics within the beginning of
the newscast but Trio FM challenges this.
There was played which related to each topic- for instance
when the story of the Olympic stadium was broadcasted,
heroic and ambitious music was played to accompany the
story of the Olympics.
Lead story broadcasted first Own theme music was broadcasted during the intervals
between the newscasts.

Q5. How did you
address/ attract
your audience?Hanna Chowdhury 12A1
MUSIC• Trio FM used music to engage our audience. We had
upbeat, pop music which engaged the audience as young
people enjoy pop music and the atmosphere it promotes for
young people.
Stories• Trio FM carefully selected specific stories which would attract and appeal to the
target audience, which are young people. We used the story of the “ One Pound
Fish Man” because he was firstly filmed by young people and his humorous song
and catchy video grabbed the attention of the youth. In addition, many of his fans
are teenagers as he introduced a funny and new song which appealed to the
youth, especially those who are fans of music.
• The Trio FM story on Rylan also appealed to young people who are avid followers
of the famous British talent show, “The X Factor”. The usual contestants on this
talent show are ballad singers and the songs and performances are not always as
attention-grabbing, fun and new as Rylan Clarke, who immediately became the
ultimate fun factor of the show. Many young people conversed and tweeted about
his eccentric ways and thoroughly enjoyed his time on the show whilst loving the
attention he received from all the young people. Our third story is about the
Olympic stadium which held the young peoples attention for a long period of time
as the games were hosted in the very city which also hosts Trio FM: London.
• Our last story was about job opportunities available to young people which
appealed to our audience because many 16-20 year olds are searching for jobs
and the interview with an experienced work related coordinator reassures the
youth because there are definite job and volunteering opportunities available to
young people.
Vox Pop• As the Olympics occurred in East London, many
people, especially our target audience visited the stadium and watched, even PARTICIPATED in the games. Our Olympic stadium newscast and vox pop on what should be done with the stadium which served its purpose so well. Our vox pop engaged young people/ listeners because it is a local news story and involves the young residents of East London. Our fourth story appealed to young people as it was about anti government cuts which will effect all young peoples futures. The outside broadcast enabled young people to engage with the news story because it enabled them to experience how serious the demonstration against the government cuts is as well as allowing them to feel the distress of the people and particularly the young people who would be effected.
The Hosts• The use of hosts that are within the age range of the target
audience engages the use of hosts that are within the age
range of the target audience. The young people are
engaged to the sound of the voices of the hosts because
they are very welcoming and bubbly which encourages
more people to listen to them as they can engage with their
peer groups and are able to understand what the hosts are
saying from a young persons point of view.
Audio• We added a variety of audio inserts in our radio station:
short clips (One Pound Fish Man), an interview (With A.
Coke about job opportunities) and an outside broadcast
(Anti- cuts demonstration). Adding these various clips
meant that the audience would not only hear the voices of
the hosts, but also the atmosphere elsewhere. In
addition, we not only hear the voices of news presenters
but atmosphere also changes and it is interesting and
holds the attention of the listeners.

Q6) WHAT HAVE YOU
LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGY?
Hanna-Mariam Chowdhury 12A1
HOW HAVE YOU WORKED WITH TECHNOLOGY?
I have worked with technology by using a Dictaphone as well as a recording studio (for my preliminary task). The Dictaphone was a simple yet helpful component in our work. For instance we used a Dictaphone in order to record our interviews and vox pops.
The recording studio enabled us to record our preliminary tasks and we also recorded using a microphone
Technology holds a significant part of our lives and communication to everyone in the outside world is done through the use of technology. It has rapidly improved lives. Without technology, we would not be aware of the outside world as radio and televised news help us understand current affairs and world issues.
CONVERGENCE
Convergence: This is the view that technology has improved so far, to the
extent where technological media such as music, newspapers and radio
can be converged into a single item of technology for instance, a mobile
phone. The iPhone is a good example for convergence. This is because it
has music, social networking, instant emailing/ messaging, news, radio and
many more qualities within one simple piece of technology.
WHAT HAVE I DISCOVERED WHILE WORKING WITH
TECHNOLOGY (ADVANTAGES)…
I have discovered that technology holds a significant part of a person’s life, especially those living in the West, where technology is usually taken for granted and casually immersed in an individual’s daily lifestyle.
As technology has grown throughout the years, it has now become a cultured part of our daily activities and has immensely improved our lives.
Technology is simple to use, quick and efficient.
We can contact whoever, be it an emergency or simply a friendly chat to someone you do not see on a daily basis.
WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED WHILE WORKING WITH
TECHNOLOGY (DISADVANTAGES)…
As technology controls society, it also indoctrinates many members, particularly impressionable young people (the desire to own the latest technological devices).
Technology, although has improved and advanced life, places humans / individuals in delicate yet controlled frame of minds.
It seems that technology is rather unhealthy for humans in general, although it has enhanced our lifestyles, it has also reduced individuals to mere forms of existence which rely on technological devices to bring us happiness.
Individuals tend to become obsessed with technology and this is unhealthy for the human mind and body.
IN CONCLUSION- MY VIEW ON
TECHNOLOGY…
Yes, technology has enhanced our
living styles and personal, social
lives but has defumigated effects on
human consciousness and
interaction with their surroundings
for some users of technology.
HOW FAR HAS TECHNOLOGY REALLY
COME?
Technology has drastically improved through the years, for instance, computers have gone from chunky to slender in a matter of years.
Software has also developed a lot for instance, Microsoft Word has improved drastically and modern, sophisticated formats and layouts have replaced the software performance and appearance.
Moreover, technology has improved live in the essence that equipment in hospitals have been considerably enhanced.
Technology has been modified to suit our personal lives.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR
TECHNOLOGY?
The future for technology, in my opinion, is rather exciting as we can already see the large changes which have taken place and occurred throughout the invention of the first technological machines and products.
One very interesting piece of technology which has changed society tremendously is the mobile phone. It began as a large block phone (with an Ariel) and has transformed into appealing, slender and modern phone, such as the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy Ace.
Technology may also create a more sustainable future. This is because technology may enrich our lives further in the future and help us through any challenges we face through our lives.
DAB RADIO
DAB Radio: This form of radio is becoming the new and latest version of radio and digital radio. Digital Audio Broadcasting has improved reception therefore is pleasant for listeners.
Used in several countries, particularly in European countries.
Quick and easy tuning and there is no requirement of looking for a good signal.
MY WORK WITH AUDACITY…
I worked with Audacity to create and finish my preliminary task.
We recorded the preliminary task in the recording studio. Sonia and Shima were the hosts of the radio station and I was the guest.
In our clip we included the topic of the latest Apple product: the iPhone 5. In this extract I aired my view about the iPhone.
The clip was edited using Audacity, where we were able to cut the length of our clip, we were able to minimise and maximise sound where it suited the clip.
Q7. COMMENT ON THE PROGRESSION YOU HAVE
MADE IN YOUR LEARNING FROM THE PRELIMINARY
STAGE TO THE FULL AND FINAL PRODUCT
Hanna-Mariam Chowdhury 12A1
WHAT I HAVE LEARNT…
• I have learnt that a viewer of a show or a listener of a radio station can call in a report anything that has offended them so OFCOM can check if any of its regulations have been violated.
OFCOM
• I have learnt that journalists have ethical rules to follow and the news generally has many standards e.g. telling the truth.
News Values and Standards
• I have learnt many beneficial skills such as communication, patience and organization.
Gained Confidence
• Planning has helped me become more organized because I was required to organize and fulfill my role in the group to ensure everything went well.
