12 Ways to disaster-proof your critical business data, CIO.com

Recovery Simulator is a recovery assurance solution that allows users of Cristie’s BMR software to automate disaster recovery testing to provide confidence that system backups will recover reliably.

The Recovery Console leverages native backups carried out by IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)

It is an easy-to-use, automated solution that tests whether a system can be successfully recovered from stored backups following a drive failure, system crash or total site loss.

Recovery Simulator Benefits An easy-to-use and automated add-on for BMR Recovery simulation can be carried out on multiple servers

and can be scheduled in advance on site or from a remote management machine.

Helps users test their backups for test and compliance such as HIPPA regulations that came in this year

Creates a sandbox environment to test whether a machine can be successfully recovered from TSM or TSM for VE backups

Automatically creates a VM to test the recovery process. This can be released after each test to avoid extra storage requirements

Success and failure reporting automatically emailed to nominated personnel to provide reassurance that machines are recoverable from their backups.

“Recover Now”

Recover Now is a valuable feature of Recovery Simulator allowing users of TBMR (Bare Machine Recovery for TSM) to run a quick recovery to hypervisors on demand.

Users can immediately validate the reliability of their backups giving them much needed recovery assurance.

Recover Now is free of charge wherever a TBMR license is installed.

Scheduled recoveries are not available under the Recover Now feature.

Recover now is not available for TSM for VE.

Recovery Simulator for TSM for VE

Recovery Simulator is available as a standalone solution for users of IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager for Virtual Environments (TSM for VE).

This provides a low-cost mechanism for testing scheduled recoveries of machines that have been backed up by TSM for VE.

The recovered machines are created as VMs within a protected TSM for VE managed environment.

NB: The ‘Recover Now’ feature is not available for TSM for VE users.
