Intent to Contribute Statement:Building a new hospital or unit and relocating to a brand new space is very exciting. The

planning for the new Kaiser San Francisco NICU has started in 2007 and the project

took 5 years to complete. The nursery was moved to a beautiful new space in

September of 2012. This experience presented the NICU team with incredible

opportunities for learning, growth and navigating unexpected challenges with

equipment, logistics, communication, altered workflows while adapting to the new

space and continuing to provide reassurance and healing caring environment to

worried families of the sick infants. The NICU team would like to share their story and

lessons learned at the next Caritas Consortium, as well as present the outcomes and

most recent patient satisfaction scores that might reflect the effects of relocation to

the new space. We believe that by sharing our learnings, we may help many others

who anticipate moving into the new hospitals in the near future.
