Friday, December 13Santa Claus Arrives! 6:30 p.m. Santa’s VillageSanta and his elves will arrive in the heart of Santa’s Village on the Carpenter Park Fields, where they will assist the Thornton Mayor and City Council Members with flipping the switch to turn on the Village’s holiday lights.

Breakfast will include pancakes, ham, eggs, orange juice and coffee. Sponsored by the 55+ Organization, the breakfast will cost $4 for adults and seniors and $2.50 for children 12 years and younger. Saturday, December 14 cont.Wonderland Woods Community Tree Decorating ContestBusinesses, schools and organizations will decorate individual trees with their favorite holiday decorations. The fee to enter is $35 per tree for schools and organizations and $60 for business entries. At the end of the festival, you may take your tree home or donate it to an organization or individual! Deadline to enter is Monday, December 9, at 5 p.m. For more information, please visit www.thorntonparks.com.

Ice-Carving Demonstrations Professional ice-carving demonstrations will be provided throughout the weekend by members of “Dazzling Ice.” The sculptors will be completing a frozen surprise that will provide a fun holiday photo opportunity. Don’t forget to bring your cameras!

Village Ice-Skating Pond The ice-skating pond will be open throughout the day and into the evening, so come on down and give this fun activity a try! The rink requires the use of ice skates, which will be available at the skate shack, or you may bring your own. The fee for ice skating will be $2 for children (12 and under) and seniors (60 and over) and $3 for adults.

Thornton Community Band Holiday ConcertSaturday, 7 - 8:30 p.m. Santa’s Village Event Tent

Reserved Seats $2 General Admission Free

Don’t miss the Thornton Community Band, as they ring in the holidays with you at this year’s WinterFest. Compiled by members of the community, there will be tunes and faces that you are sure to recognize!

Reserved seat tickets ($2 each) will be available in advance at the Carpenter Recreation Center front desk beginning December 2. Tickets will also be available at the WinterFest North Pole Visitors Center until 6 p.m. Saturday evening and at the door until 7 p.m. The reserved ticket seating area will be in the front half of the tent and will be roped off until 15 minutes after the concert starts (7:15 p.m.), at which time ALL remaining seats will be available to general admission attendees at no charge.

Holiday Fireworks 8:30 p.m. Santa’s VillageImmediately following the Thornton Community Band performance, the sky above Santa’s Village will come to life with an amazing fireworks show choreographed to holiday music.

Due to Santa’s overwhelming schedule, the line will be cut-off early in order to adhere to the closing time.

Would your child enjoy a personal phone call from Santa before he comes to town on Christmas Eve? Santa will be riding through Thornton December 17-19. At this time, he will talk directly to boys and girls between the ages of 18 months and 12 years old, finding out who has been naughty and who has been nice! Calling all aspiring youth ages 5-18! Here’s your chance to show off your amazing talents and compete against other youth from the Metro Area. Both individuals and groups (no more than four participants) are welcome to try out.This popular competition is broken into the following categories: • NEW THIS YEAR! DANCE performance with traditional dance styles such as ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, ethnic etc. • VOICE performance with background tracks or a capella. NO live accompanists. • MUSIC performance with live instrumentation played by the performer. Includes singers who are also playing an instrument or accompanied by another participant who is also part of the act • VARIETY act that does not fall into the above categories. This includes: magic, comedy, interpretive reading, martial arts, circus arts, acrobatics, etc.Prizes are awarded in the following age groups: • Grades K-2 • Grades 3-5 • Grades 6-8 • Grades 9-12Medals are awarded to the top three finalists in each age group. The first place winner in each category will go on to compete in the Regional Grand Finale against finalists from participating communities around the Denver metro area.The selected participants must submit a $6 entry fee. Dress rehearsal is on Friday, February 28.

ALL SELECTED ACTS MUST ATTEND THE DRESS REHEARSAL IN ORDER TO COMPETE IN THE FINALS.

All the trees are selected by Thornton Forestry staff based on their ability to survive in Colorado soils and climate conditions.

• Limit one tree per resident.

• Trees offered are air-pruned and the highest quality

• Trees are 1” caliper in size and weigh approximately 20 pounds, making them easily moved and transported.

• Thornton resident purchasing the tree is responsible for pick-up and planting of the tree.

• Instruction and care information will be provided on the day of pickup by Forestry and Horticulture staff.

NOTE: Trees are not guaranteed, but if properly planted and maintained, will be successful. Tree choices subject to change.

COST: $75 per tree due at time of sale (CHECK OR CREDIT CARD ONLY.)
