PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Greetings,
Welcome to another edition of the Red Hawk Report!
AP Honor Roll
I am very pleased to announce that Milton High School was named to the
College Board AP Honor Roll. We were one of 10 schools in Wisconsin and
250 in all of the United States to be named to the honor roll. To be selected,
schools must have three consecutive years of increased enrollment in
Advanced Placement classes, increased minority participation, and increased
performance on the AP exam. In 2019, MHS had a total of 429 AP exams taken
with a 74% pass rate, well above the national average of
50%. Congratulations to all the staff and students whose hard work is
recognized with this award. This is the 3rd time MHS has been named to the
Honor Roll in the last 10 years.
Final Exams
First semester exams are January 14, 15, and 16 (the schedule is in this edition
of the Red Hawk Report). Please take the time to review with your student
their exams and their plan for preparing for the end of the term
assessments. This is a good way to prepare for the exam structure they will
find at the post-secondary level. This is also a great opportunity to talk about
how the year is going and to get them to think about future planning for
courses for next year or their plans for after graduation.
Update on High School Additions and Remodel
The plans for the additions and remodeling at the high school are just about
complete and soon the district will be putting out the bids. We anticipate the
breaking of ground this spring. During the construction, there will be various
parts of the building or grounds that will be sectioned off from the public
which will have an impact on building use. Please be looking for
announcements on the progress and information on which parts of the
building or grounds will be inaccessible.

Welcome Chloé!
This February, MHS will welcome Chloé, a French exchange student, for 3 weeks. Chloé is
from near Avignon, in the South of France, where the climate is much sunnier than it is in Wis-
consin! Chloé is here to learn about American culture and develop her English skills. She will
be staying with the Smithson family, whose daughter is currently enrolled in French 2. The
exchange is set up by Language and Friendship, an organization in Minnesota.
A sunny view from Chloé’s town near Avignon.
MHS families have been successfully welcoming L&F French exchange students to Milton for
about 15 years. There are exchange opportunities in spring and summer each year.
Families interested in hosting a student from France this summer should visit
languageandfriendship.com/hosting for more information.

French in your student’s future
French is an in-demand language! A recent search for French jobs on Indeed returned over
9500 job postings in the US, ranging in salary from $30k-$75k/year. Companies in need of
French speakers included Apple, Louis Vuitton, BMO Harris Bank, Snap-on Tools, and more.
Students with French language skills have more career opportunities available to them than
those without.

BUSINESS & COMPUTER EDUCATION
With course selection quickly approaching, we would like to continue
our spotlight of courses to help explain the many options available with-
in our department. With the transition to trimesters, all semester courses
in our department will transition to a one trimester course. Our three
year long courses (Accounting 1, Accounting 2, and Retail Management)
have been adapted to fit this new format; more information to come on
that topic in a future newsletter!
SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING:
Sport & Entertainment Marketing is a one semester course that blends the curriculum of Principles of
Marketing with the world of Sports and Entertainment. Students electing to participate in the course will
partake in real-world activities that will strengthen their marketing skills while focusing on the topics of
sponsorship, pricing, market research, endorsements, and promotions within the industries of sports
and entertainment. The real-world activities include building a sports franchise, designing and market-
ing an authentic video game, and organizing and marketing a weekend music festival. Sports & Enter-
tainment Marketing offers students an edge if pursuing marketing or sports management degrees at the
collegiate level or the opportunity to learn via an elective centered around sports and entertainment.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS:
This one semester course takes the business content learned in other classes and puts it on a global lev-
el. With a high focus on current events, different cultures, and best business practices, this course is
constantly changing and making relevant curriculum for all students. Throughout the course, students
will get to choose what topics they dive deeper into each chapter and will demonstrate their learning
through hands-on projects. This course is perfect for anyone who has interest in economics, global busi-
ness, or other cultures. It also meets part of the requirements for the Global Studies Certificate here at
Milton High School.
As always - the business department is here to help you find the best fit for your spring semester and
beyond. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us if you have specific questions about any class.
We would love for your student to have the opportunity to explore a new topic!
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)
It is now officially the “busy” season of FBLA and we could not be more excited for the upcoming com-
petition season! We officially registered thirty-four members for the Regional Leadership Conference
held on February 1st at Muskego High School. Members are already studying for their tests, creating
their projects, or practicing their presentations for their event. The top three in each event category for
the region will have the chance to advance and compete at the State Leadership Conference held at the
end of March in Madison. We are looking forward to reporting back our results in the February newslet-
ter! Make sure to wish your FBLA members good luck the next time you see them!
