    CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT DETAILED DESIGN MANUFACTURE

RED MARINE PROJECTSRed Marine provides Intelligent Engineering solutions that save our customers time and money - this is typically on a turnkey basis from concept development, through detail design to the manufacture of bespoke equipment. Key to our success is a focus on identifying and defining the true nature of the engineering challenge to be addressed before developing an appropriate solution in a phased programme to reduce risk.

RED MARINE TESTING SERVICESWorking as an extension of a clients team, Red Marine can develop and deliver bespoke test programmes to meet specific project requirements.Key features of the Testing with Intelligence service are the ability to rapidly design and manufacture first of kind test equipment and the in-house engineering resource to fully analyse and extract maximum value from test results.

  • CONCEPT DESIGN BUILD TESTING SUPPORT

CASE STUDY: SUBSEA UMBILICAL CLAMPRed Marine has recently developed a first of kind subsea umbilical clamp in conjunction with the global subsea provider, FMC Technologies. The engineering challenge was to develop a clamp to securely hold a new type of subsea umbilical that is compressible, very sensitive to the squeeze force applied and has a low friction outer sheath. In a fast track 5 month programme, Red Marine undertook the concept development, prototype testing, detail design, manufacture and acceptance testing of a mechanical clamp system that has now been commissioned on board the deep water well intervention vessel, the Island Performer, in the Gulf of Mexico. The key innovation was the development of a modular clamping system, comprising of six elements, each of which house a number of spring applied pads to ensure the application of a consistent and reliable clamping force to the umbilical. This product is the latest in a long line of intelligent subsea solutions and clamps that have been developed by Red Marine over the last seven years. Mike Crosby, Principal Engineer

Good work, my regards and thanks to you and the team for their hard work, diligence and achievement of challenging delivery timescales. Catho Bjerkseter, FMC Technologies

  • LOAD TEST SYSTEM

    RISER RECOVERY CLAMPS

    DIVE BELL SHOCK ABSORBER

    ACTIVE HEAVE COMPENSATOR

    PIPELINE MACHINING TOOL

Working closely with Bibby Offshore, Red Marine supplied two subsea clamps for a complex decommissioning project in the North Sea. The clamps were a bespoke solution, designed for ease of installation by divers and to allow the decommissioning of 6 and 7 diameter risers.

2015 has seen the delivery of Red Marines fifth Load Test System, supplied to Technip Offshore for the periodic load testing of the Pipelay system onboard the Skandi Africa. The proven system allows all key pipe lay system elements to be load tested safely and efficiently with a single purpose built tool, saving time and money.

The detail design of a 15t SWL Nereus Active Heave Compensator for Screaton & Associates. The first of range of AHC systems that can be fitted in-line with an existing winch, Red Marine was challenged to provide a design that could provide the basis for higher capacity units in the future.

A multi-phase project to deliver two DNV approved shock absorber systems for installation on the Subsea 7 Dive Support Vessel, Seven Osprey. Each custom hydro-mechanical unit comprised a shock absorber and winch line tensioning system to enhance the protection of the dive bell and handling system during launch and recovery operations.

A bespoke portable machine tool, developed to save time and money offshore by allowing the accurate machining of a flexible pipeline prior to the fitting of connections. Following concept development, rapid prototyping and manufacture of a CE marked production unit, the first unit will be delivered to Brazil following completion of final trials.

  • TEST DEVELOPMENT RIG DESIGN & BUILD TESTING ANALYSIS & REPORTING

CASE STUDY: SHUTTLE VALVE TESTINGA turnkey project to complete the qualification testing of a subsea shuttle valve against ISO 13628-6:2006, API 6A and SAE AS-4059 in environmental conditions from -6C to 121C. Working closely with the client, Red Marine completed the concept development, detailed design and manufacture of a 15,750 psi rated test fixture to allow simulation of subsea shuttle valve operations. In parallel, our engineers developed the detailed test procedure, designed the necessary hydraulic circuits and developed an appropriate monitoring system. Following completion of all procedures, risk assessments and test rig set-up, the test programme is currently being completed. Throughout this project, we have continued to work closely with the client to develop and optimise the test procedure and equipment in order to meet the challenging qualification test requirements. • TENSIONER PAD TESTING

    UMBILICAL FRICTION TESTING

    COMBINED PRESSURE & STRAIN TESTING

    FATIGUE TESTING

A fast track project to validate the friction properties of a first of kind subsea umbilical. Red Marines scope included the design and build of a suitable test rig to clamp the large diameter umbilical using prototype pads. The creep behaviour of the sample was then monitored under squeeze and tensile load cycles for varying hold periods from 5 minutes to 7 days.

Testing of an umbilical sample to ensure it was not compromised by the crush loading to be exerted on it by tensioners during installation. In addition, verification of the friction coefficient between the proposed tensioner pads and umbilical to ensure safe offshore installation.

Design, build and operation of a bespoke strain rig to allow combined pressure testing and axial loading of a subsea pipeline sample. The rig is currently under construction for validation testing up to 30,000 psi, prior to final CE marking.

Fatigue testing of flexible pipeline samples using a unique rotational test rig.Following development of the unique rig in conjunction with the client, extensive testing of a wide range of samples has been completed in controlled environmental conditions ranging from 30C to -20C.

DROP TESTINGUse of Red Marines drop test rig to complete a 10kJ impact test on a piece of subsea hardware.During the testing, high speed photography was used to enable detailed post-test analysis of the impact.

  • BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

    EXTENDED CAPABILITY

NEW TEST FACILITYIn May 2015, Red Marine moved its testing operations to a new facility still within walking distance of its head office, Tynedale House. The facility is four times the size of its previous workshop and allows a further expansion of Red Marines testing services. Now fully operational with a new environmental chamber, overhead cranage, project specific test areas, client offices and 24-hour technician support, the facility enables testing with intelligence to allow the accurate and reliable qualification testing of offshore equipment, products and procedures.

Red Marine continues to expand its testing capabilities with the development of a new Cable and Umbilical Test Rig, the CTR-200 to allow the qualification testing of subsea power cables and umbilicals. The high capacity rig can be configured in a number of ways allowing the accurate assessment of cable strength, torque balance, stiffness and fatigue properties. Together with an existing thermal chamber and friction test rigs, it allows the provision of a full range of cable qualification tests against industry standards (eg ISO13628-5) or client specific requirements.

  • NUCLEAR DECOMISSIONINGTo support its continued growth and development, Red Marine is now actively targeting a number of new markets including the Nuclear Decommissioning Sector. The Nuclear Industry faces significant engineering challenges going forward as it decommissions existing infrastructure. With a proven track record of delivering collaborative engineering solutions, including the development of high integrity equipment to operate in extreme environments, Red Marine is confident that it can add value for clients in this market.Red Marine is now an approved supplier to a tier 2 engineering contractor and is looking forward to delivering its first project in this area.

As part of its ongoing business development activities in this area, Red Marine is now a member of the Britains Energy Coast Business Cluster (BECBC) and will be exhibiting at the Nuclear Energy Business Opportunities Conference 2015 on the 13th and 14th of October.
