Artist Sudi Taleghani says, "My inspiration comes from culture and treasures found in everyday life. Creating in my studio located in a small California Coastal Fishing community gives me the freedom to create and enjoy the treasures of life. My goal is to bring to you Artful Tableware that is functional and can be treasured for years to come. The two techniques I use to create each design on Spun , Fused, and Mouth Blown Glass are Reverse painting and Gilding. In Gilding I apply a Clear Varnish first then layer the Gold, Silver or Copper on the back of the glass, it is then sealed and goes into the kiln for several hours to set. Reverse painting is where all of the art is also done on the back of the glass while visualizing what the finished product looks like from the front, this is a very time consuming process, but well worth it, after all of the artwork is done again the piece is treated with heat and a clear coat."TRANSCRIPT

Red PomegranateSudi and Simmin Taleghani established II Sisters in 1994 from the love of wanting to work together. Since 1994, II Sisters have produced award winning product designs in various gift categories. Red Pomegranate was introduced in 2007 as a food safe decorative gilded glass resource.
Red Pomegranate’s designer Sudi Taleghani gains inspiration from the culture and treasures of everyday life. Creating the designs in her studio in a small California coastal community gives her the freedom to design beautiful, functional tableware that will be treasured for years to come.
Red Pomegranate products are created through the use of gilding, an ancient and simple method of laying precious metals on glass. The process begins with clear glass and then layers of precious metal (gold, silver, or copper), mixed with the pigment on the back of the glass. This technique is also referred to as reverse painting. In the gilding process, a clear vanish is applied to the back of the glass, then the metal is hand pressed with some of the metal being removed to prepare the piece for the pigment application. It is then sealed and placed into a kiln for several hours to set. The final procedure involves again treating the piece with heat and a clear coat. This process is extremely labor intensive, but well worth it when the artwork is complete.
Red Pomegranate Tableware is all created by hand, so minor imperfections are normal and add to the individuality of each piece. Each piece is safe for both hot and cold food. Please hand wash only without harsh detergents and abrasives. Red Pomegranate Tableware is not oven or microwave safe. Enjoy !
